Chapter 269 149| Everything and Nothing.
AXEL

“Let’s slip out before our parents notice,” I mind-linked Violet, my gaze fixed on her.

“Your father would have to assign a room to me, remember? I am not going to sleep outside,” she replied.

“Why do you need another room?” A small smile touched my lips. “My room is ours, baby.”

She chuckled. “It’s obvious that you want to start a war before Zara brings her own war.”

“If it’s for your sake, it’s worth it. Come on.” I turned around and left the room, hoping she would follow me.

Moments later, she also slipped out of the room, looking slightly worried. “Let’s just hope that they wouldn’t have both our heads on a pike.”

I chuckled softly as I wrapped my arm around her waist and led the way. “Do you doubt my ability to protect you, princess?”

“Of course not, my powerful Alpha,” she giggled.

I led her to my room, which had already been cleaned. It didn’t even look like I had been away for long.

I spread my arms wide open. “Welcome to my humble abode, baby.”

She gazed around before walking over to the bed and sitting on it with her legs crossed.

“What happened?” I asked when I noticed the foul expression on her face.

“I am just worried about this Zara—or is it Nina—issue.” She pressed her lips together. “Do you think we are going to be successful with our plan?”

I inched closer and sat next to her. “To be honest, I don’t know either. But all I know is that we are going to try our best. And no matter what, we are not going to allow her win. And,” I placed two fingers beneath her chin and turned her face to look at me, “I will never allow her hurt the people I love. I will never allow her hurt you, Violet.”

She rested her head on my shoulder. “I know, Axel. I know.”

I ran my fingers through her hair, gently straightening it. Zara wasn’t the only person I was worried about. Very soon, Silas would demand to return Violet to the south, and there was no way in hell I was going to let her go. There was no way in hell I was going to allow her to go through what happened to her when we were apart from each other again.

So, I might have to fight Silas. As much as that would’ve been a great pleasure, I wouldn’t want to do it because of Violet. Because no matter what, he was still her father.

“What’s on your mind?” she asked as she hoisted her head to look at me.

“You, baby.” I leaned in and planted a kiss on her lips. “I love you, Violet. So fucking much. And I am never going to let you go. No matter what.”

“That’s good to know,” she said, a small smile touching her lips.

I frowned. “Say it back.”

“No!” She tried to stand up, but I dragged her back by her arm, making her sit on my lap.

“Say it back, princess.” I leaned in and inhaled her sweet scent.

Damn, I could never do without this girl.

“I won’t—”

I tickled her, causing giggles to burst out from her.

“Say it, Violet,” I rasped as I continued tickling her.

“I love you. I love you, Axel. So very much!” she blurted, and I stopped tickling immediately.

I buried my nose in her neck, dragging in her scent like it was a drug. “Better.”

We collapsed on the bed afterward and cuddled together while we talked about everything and nothing until we eventually fell asleep.

The following day, we went out strolling through the beautiful gardens in the pack, holding hands like the lovebirds that we were. I caught myself staring at her every minute. Her smile, the way she talked, the way she walked—it all made my heart beat so fast.

No doubt, she was the best thing that ever happened to me. I wanted this happiness to last forever.

“The gardens here are really beautiful. But the ones in the witches’ lands are the most beautiful I have ever seen,” she commented as we moved along.

I chuckled. “I know a garden whose flowers are even more beautiful, elegant, and fantastic.”

She flicked her gaze at me and stopped in her tracks. “Really? Where?” she asked eagerly.

My arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her even closer. Looking into her eyes, I whispered, “You.”

I watched as a soft blush swept across her cheeks, light twinkling in her eyes. “Ouuuuu. That’s a nice one.”

“You are beautiful, Violet.” I leaned in and placed a quick kiss on her lips. “Everything about you.”

“Get your hands off her, now!” Silas growled, and I turned to see him storming towards us.

“Why have you been blocking off all my mind-links?” he asked, his eyes fixed on his daughter.

“Maybe because I don’t want you to forcefully make me return to the south,” she retorted.

“It’s for your own safety!” he groaned.

“I think I am safer here more than I ever was in the south. I am not returning there against my will, Father. So, just drop it. Please!” she fired defiantly.

“You are returning to the south, and that’s final. There’s no way I’ll have you remain here when Nina eventually comes. This place might be burnt down to ruins. You do not know the power that witch possesses now. I cannot lose you, Violet.”

I also knew this place was dangerous for her. But I couldn’t let her go. To protect her, she had to be by my side. And when she was away, I wouldn’t be able to do that. Besides, I knew Violet. She would want to stay and witness it all.

“Stop pretending to care about me, Father. We all know that the reason you want to send me away is because of your ego. You don’t want me to be with your greatest enemy’s son.”

Silas snapped his gaze at me. “You know that this place is dangerous for her, and you are still poisoning her mind to stay. She has been defiant to me ever since she was mated to you.” He took threatening steps towards me, fury burning through his features. “I cannot have my daughter be with someone like you. Reject her now. Or...”

“Or what?” I growled, baring my canines. “Or what, Silas? You must be really delusional. I am never going to reject her. I am never going to let her go. And you know that!”

His nose flared, claws protruding as he came even closer. “I don’t care that I am within your territory. I will pluck your eyes out.”

I showed my own claws. “That’s if I don’t slit your throat first.”

We stood snarling at each other, rage burning through our eyes.

“We are meeting now. Kaelin is back with the artifact,” Father’s mind-link suddenly came through.

At that moment, a maid rushed towards us. She gave me a slight bow before talking to Silas.

“The Alpha King asked me to tell you that the artifact is ready and the meeting would commence now.”

Silas glared at me for a moment before abruptly turning around and leaving without another word.
