Chapter 16 Mine To Hold
Chapter 16
Alyssa's POV
My nightmare was quickly forgotten, thanks to Zayne who spent the next few days assuring me that I had nothing to be worried about.
“Our mate is just perfect!” My wolf said, and I agreed. If perfection was a person, it was definitely him.
He proved that not all rumors were true. Everything I heard of him before actually meeting him in person were lies…except that he was hot of course. I bit my lips softly as I tried to push away the shirtless picture of him which took a long time. I swear, I was slowly turning into someone I didn't recognize and I have my wolf to blame.
The rumors said he killed people for fun, but the version of him I knew was the opposite. He was the kindest person I knew…he proved it everyday.
“We got lucky with him, I tell you."
I pushed myself up from the bed, and just like the past few days, I was alone because Zayne had pack business to deal with, which means waking up earlier than I did and also coming to bed after I'd fallen asleep. Several times I've tried waiting up for him but I still end up falling asleep.
I've missed waking up in his arms— his scent, his warmth and the quiet safety being in arms provided. Just thinking about it brought a smile…one that I thought I'd lost a long time ago, to my face as I made my way to the bathroom.
Getting ready didn't take much time, I wore a gown that stopped just above my knee. Not bothering to brush my hair since my hair day was the previous day…which I still didn't do because Zayne wasn't around to help me…I was really getting spoiled by him. I just ran a hand through it and put it in a messy bun before leaving the room in search of Zayne.
I swear, my head needs to be checked.
“He's not complaining," my wolf said, “besides, he's ours."
I rolled my eyes, not sure what I was expecting from a wolf who couldn't go a single day without reading double meaning into everything.
As I walked down the hallway, I ignored the stares I was getting, having gotten used to it by now.
By the time I arrived at Zayne's office, I met only Tristan who was carried away by whatever was on his phone. But the moment he saw me, he dropped it and a wide smile appeared on his face.
“Look who it is!" He exclaimed dramatically, putting his hand on his chest. "My soulmate!”
I chuckled, "I'm going to miss you.” I joked.
Since the first time we met, he hasn't stopped calling me his soulmate…when Zayne couldn't hear of course. He argued that the moon goddess was definitely drunk when she paired wolves with their mates. But even though I played along, I knew the moon goddess paired me with the perfect person for me.
“Alpha Zayne has a soft spot for me…” he started, but was interrupted by the opening of the door.
"I'm sure he's going to love hearing you talk about his mate like he isn't in the picture.” Xavier said, not bothering to look up from the file he was holding.
Tristan just rolled his eyes, "you're just jealous that she likes me more than you.”
This made Xavier look up, his brows raised as he stared at me, causing me to cough loudly before standing up. “I'm just going to go find Aria…I think I'm hungry too.” That wasn't a lie, but I wasn't about to be dragged into their playful banter.
I didn't miss how Xavier rolled his eyes at my lame excuse to run away but I just ignored him.
When I was a few meters away from the office, I let out a soft groan, "those two have made me forget the reason I was in the office in the first place.” I murmured.
Not being able to mindlink him was killing me, but at least, I had a phone…which I also left in the room.
“We're such a mess." I grumbled.
My wolf shook her head, “speak for yourself, I know exactly what I want."
I rolled my eyes, “of course you do." I replied, deciding to actually go in search of Aria, so we could have breakfast together. Since I realised how much fun eating with people was, I've hated eating alone.
Aria was in the childcare as usual, helping the children with their painting. And on seeing me, she whispered something to them before coming towards me.
“Luna," she called, and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes at the title. Even playfully, she wouldn't call me my name. “I thought the Alpha was keeping you busy." She continued, winking suggestively and I felt my face heat up.
“I don't know what you're talking about.” I murmured, "I can't even find him anywhere.” I added, my voice barely above a whisper, but she heard me as she threw her arms around me.
"He's busy…but I have a sure way to keep him around." She said, “walks all the time with Xavier." She added, and a knowing smile appeared on her face.
“I really like her," my wolf grinned.
“Of course you do."
I listened to Aria as she spoke about all of the skills I needed to put to use and how being mates with him makes it even easier and fun. I was learning things I swore only happened in movies and novels.
“Why don't you grab something to eat, and I can continue on with my art of seduction…Alpha is going to thank me.” She told me, a smile was permanently etched on her face.
I found myself enjoying her ‘lessons’ way too much and couldn't wait to see the expression on Zayne's face. So I hurried to the kitchen, where I met the Omegas trying to fix breakfast or lunch…I wasn't sure and immediately they saw me, they paused.
“Luna," they chorused, “d-do you need something?"
I ignored their scared expression, “just something light for breakfast…pancakes maybe.” The words had barely left my lips when they swung into action.
A quiet sigh left my lips, this was still all new to me. But despite all of it, I'd missed cooking for myself.
Less than ten minutes later, the entire kitchen was filled with the smell of pancakes and I felt my stomach growling at the sight. They insisted on taking the food to the dining room but I insisted and took the plate from them and the look on their faces suggested that I was probably going to cost them their heads.
I took the pancakes and started going back to Aria but just as I turned towards the childcare I saw Zayne, but he wasn't alone, a girl had her hand around him, holding him tightly and my hand tightened on the plate as my wolf let out a growl.
And before I could stop myself, I approached them, the words tore out of my mouth, sharp and possessive,“Get your hands off my mate!"
