Chapter 154 The Breaking Point
Chapter 154 The Breaking Point
Alyssa's POV
By the time we got back to the house, Elara was already sobbing uncontrollably. She said she could feel the pain Tristan was going through and it didn't help that nobody was able to mindlink him.
“We can't just stay here and do nothing?" I said, “he needs our help and hiding here isn't going to help anyone."
The girls nodded, as they tried to assure Elara that Tristan was going to be fine but I doubt she believed any of it. Nyra, on hearing our voices, also came running out of the room. “Did something happen?" She asked.
I nodded, “Tristan is hurt and we can't seem to reach him or the other guys."
“We can't wait anymore." Aileen said, and Jace thought about it for barely three seconds before asking that we get into the car. But not without murmuring how nothing must go wrong if he still wanted his head intact.
Once we were settled, Jace drove like he was possessed but we couldn't even complain because of Elara. She was groaning in pain, and I didn't have time to make sense of it since we usually didn't feel the pain ourselves. And knowing Tristan, there was no way he wouldn't block her from feeling his emotions.
“Stop the car!" Elara yelled after driving for about an hour, at a speed that was certainly going to give Zayne a heart attack if he heard about it.
"What's wrong?” Jace asked her.
“I can smell him." She replied, “his scent is coming more from the forest."
We opened the door and ran out. Shifting into our wolves, we all ran after her as she took the lead. It was only normal since she was going to lead us to him.
“I've reached Xavier, they'll meet us there." Aria told me and I nodded. Although I didn't try to talk to Zayne…in his case, I wasn't sure that would be a good idea.
"What if this is a plan?” Jace asked me, and I slowed down. “I have this feeling that we're walking into a trap." He added.
I shrugged, even though I doubt he could see it. “I don't doubt that, but Tristan is in danger and all I can think about is saving him."
"I know, but we need a plan.” He said, "give them an element of surprise or something. We don't know how many people are waiting for us and I can't put you in danger.”
"Jace, whatever it is, we're going to deal with it together." I told him. “We don't know what's going on in there and each time we waste might be fatal."
He nodded. I understood where he was coming from, as a Beta, the first thing to do in situations like this was craft plans to take down whatever the threat was but we couldn't waste a single minute. And Nyra would counter whatever spell she was doing.
We soon arrived at the cabin and we all paused and shifted into our human form. Nyra turned to face me. "Once we're in, we probably won't be able to mindlink anyone.” She said, explaining that she could sense the spell that prohibited mindlinking.
“That doesn't matter, all we need to do is hold hands…if we need to create a stronger shield.”
She paused, looked at my stomach and then back at me. "Are you sure you're going to be okay?" She asked.
"I'm fine, and I'm even more confident that you're here.” I told her. "Let's show that bloody witch that she made a mistake messing with us.”
"Before we go in there,” she started, and I frowned because whatever she was going to say sounded like something the main characters do before they end up dying.
I held my hand up, "whatever it is,” I told her, "can wait until we're done rescuing Tristan together and everyone is safe.”
She smiled softly as Elara ran towards the cabin door. "Tristan baby!” She called loudly.
The others followed behind and I entered last. The sight in front of me was heartbreaking and even without saying anything, the look on the guys’ face was the same.
Tristan was still on his feet, but it definitely wasn't because he wanted to. His wrists were bound together above his head, the thick rope hanging from a beam in the ceiling, forcing him to stand. His head hung low, his face bruised despite the blindfold.
His clothes were torn beyond recognition, blood soaking through the fabric and dripping onto the wooden floor beneath him. Every part of him looked battered. My heart clenched painfully.
Dylan's stepmother stood beside him with a smug smile on her face, as though she'd been waiting for us all along.
“She's going to pay for this!" My wolf growled.
“You guys shouldn't have come." Tristan said, his voice coming out hoarse.
“Are you crazy?" Aria asked, “do you really think we're going to leave you here?"
He didn't respond, “we're going to get you out of here." Aileen assured him.
The woman laughed, “I don't know if I should be proud about how optimistic you are." She said, “but I hate to break it to you sweetheart, nobody is leaving here if I don't get what I want."
“I'd love to see you try." Aileen said.
For a moment, I didn't say anything. I watched as Elara cried while holding Tristan. And even without seeing his eyes, I could tell he was feeling guilty for putting her in a situation where he had absolutely no control over.
Jace stepped forward, "let's get this done with." He said, but then he frowned and turned to look at me. “I can't shift."
“She casted a spell," I told him, not surprised.
"Now, back to you.” She said, meeting my eyes. "For someone with so much power, you look quite ordinary."
I scoffed, “well, thank you.” I said, rolling my eyes. "I like when people underestimate me."
Her smile widened as I continued. “Now, let him go and this isn't going to end that badly for you."
“That's my line." She told me, “the others can leave. I only want you and if they try anything silly, your Gamma is going to pay for it, followed by his mate."
The door opened and a man, one I assumed was her mate…the same person Luna Valerie was having an affair with, entered. His eyes landed on me and he smirked before coming towards me.
"I see why Dylan can't seem to do anything right.” He brought his hand to touch me but I glared at him.
"Touch me,” I growled, "and it'd be the last thing you do." I assured him. The smirk disappeared but soon came back as he took a step back.
Soon enough, more rogues entered the room and got ready to fight. The guys also stood their ground because even though they couldn't shift, they were still stronger than the rogues.
“I can't move." Aria said suddenly.
“Neither can I." Aileen groaned.
I looked at Nyra and she simply nodded before she began chanting a spell. “We can choose to do this the easy way or the hard way.” I told the witch. "I really don't care.”
She chuckled, murmuring how talking was a waste of her precious time. Tristan immediately let out a painful groan, and my head snapped to look at him. Whatever she was doing was causing him some sort of pain and I felt something snap within me.
"Let them go!”
"Now, why would I listen to you, little girl.” She asked, "I'm in charge here and I call the shots now.”
I scoffed, taking a step towards her since for whatever reason, I wasn't stuck like the others. A shocked look flashed through her eyes but they were gone as soon as they came.
“As much as I love seeing you make dumb mistakes like this," I started, “I'm getting bored.”
Her mate whispered something to her and almost immediately, the rogues brought out knives and approached the guys, placing it close to their throats, that one wrong move and they'd be bleeding to death.
"You were saying?" the witch asked with a satisfied smile. "Come with me willingly or watch every single one of them die because of you." She finished and I felt something inside me snap.
I took another step forward. "Your first mistake," I said quietly, "was threatening the people I love."
I closed my eyes.
My wolf surged forward, and a brilliant shield exploded from us, wrapping itself around the others. The moment it touched them, every one of them collapsed to the ground.
“What the fuck?" Her mate cursed, his smile disappearing.
"Nyra, take care of the rogues and strengthen the shield once you're done…I'll take care of this.”
"Be careful.” Jace said and I smirked.
"Careful?" I laughed. "That's the last thing on my mind."
“Alpha Zayne is definitely going to kill me today." He murmured.
My bones crack as I feel a power surge within me. Then I shifted.
"Playtime is over.” My wolf groaned.
NB: I'll post two chapters tomorrow, sorry about the slow updates, but I'm back fully now.
