Chapter 153 The Price Of Loyalty

Chapter 153 The Price Of Loyalty

Tristan's POV

Once I was sure that Alpha Zayne and the others had gone a good distance from the pack, I made my way towards Alpha Dorian's place. He'd mindlink me that Luna Valerie had left the house. There was no rush since I already knew where she was going.

"Are you sure you want to come along, Alpha?” I asked.

Seeing pictures of his mate in the arms of another man was way different from seeing it in person. That was the height of heartbreak.

He nodded, "if anything goes wrong, you'll need all the help you can get.” he said, "and I don't think anything can surprise me anymore.” There was a smile on his face, one that didn't reach his eyes.

Without arguing, I led the way into the forest with a few warriors just in case. And since we were in our wolf form, it didn't take long for us to get to Viktor's house. The door was locked, much to my confusion.

"They're supposed to be here." I muttered, running a hand through my hair. Alpha Dorian didn't say anything as he moved towards the door and using his strength, he kicked at the door. Nothing happened for the first two times that he hit the door but he didn't stop.

"Remember the last time we were here?" My wolf started, and I nodded. “Viktor spoke about finding them a new place to meet because they didn't want interruptions?"

I ran a hand through my hair again, “fuck!" I groaned, just as Alpha Dorian broke the door down.

“I'll search for them, you can go to the opposite side…whoever finds them first. Some warriors can search the house for anything that is going to be useful."

He nodded, and we both went to the opposite directions, taking a couple of warriors along. I tried following Luna Valerie’s scent but they were all over the place.

"There's a footprint here, Gamma Tristan.” A warrior announced and I was by his side in seconds. And he was right, a footprint, one that belonged to a bigger wolf and I smiled…that didn't take long.

Following the print, it led us deeper into the forest and farther away from Viktor's house. To have an affair wasn't easy and you have to be skilled in hide and seek.

After a while, the print shifted to their human form and I didn't have to wonder for long when a small cabin came into view. It was hidden behind long trees, and if you weren't looking for it in the first place, there was no way you would find it.

“Stand guard," I started, “I'm going to give them a surprise."

My wolf snorted, but didn't say anything as I approached the cabin. Once I was close enough, I heard their voices. They were laughing about something and for someone who easily handed her son’s mate to the enemy, she sounded at each. I kicked the door open, catching them by surprise…mission accomplished.

Luna Valerie…if I should still call her that, was barely covered up and my brows furrowed. “I really didn't need to see that." I thought.

Immediately she saw me, her eyes widened and she jumped up from his body, grabbing a blanket to cover her body.

“Did you bring them here?" Viktor growled, not bothering to cover up. “I should've known better than to trust you.”

Valerie's head snapped toward him, fury flashing across her face.

"Seriously?" she hissed. "You think I wanted this?" She tightened her grip on the blanket. "How the hell was I supposed to know he'd find us? This is my first time here!”

"Focus on getting rid of him first.” Viktor grumbled.

If Luna Valerie didn't meet my eyes, I'd be so certain I'd become invisible. "You should've turned a blind eye to me, but I can't have you ruin everything.”

I scoffed, "you did that yourself, the moment you chose another man over your own family and handed your pregnant…” I paused, wondering why I was having a conversation with when I was there to take her in.

But sensing my plans, she launched herself towards me, as she shifted into her wolf, one that was slightly bigger than mine. But if there was anything that fighting against Zayne had taught me, it was never about the size.

I shifted too just as she hit me, sending us crashing across the wooden floor but both of us stood up immediately.

She came at me again, her jaws snapping close to my neck and I ducked beneath her and raked my claws across her side, earning a loud growl. But she didn't back off, as she spun around and tackled me again, sending us rolling across the wooden floor. Her claws dug into my shoulder, but I shoved her off with my hind legs before she could do any real damage.

"She's stronger than I expected," my wolf growled.

"She's desperate," I replied. She knows if I leave here alive, there's no way her mate would want her again.

But the mistake she was making was thinking I'd come here without informing anyone, especially her mate.

Valerie charged again, but this time I was ready as I sank my teeth into her shoulder and a growl filled the room as I threw her against the table beside us.

She got back on her feet almost immediately, blood dripping from the wound on her shoulder.

"You think you can stop me?" she snarled.

I bared my teeth. "I don't have to stop you. I just have to keep you here."

She let out another growl and launched herself at me again.

We collided in the middle of the cabin, the room was a mess but it was only then that I realised Viktor was nowhere to be found. He must've disappeared when we were distracted. “Fuck!"

I finally managed to pin her beneath me, my claws pressing into her shoulders as she struggled to break free.

Just as she kicked me off, the cabin door burst open, breaking clean off its hinges before crashing onto the floor. And I didn't miss the way Valerie's eyes widened as she shifted back.

“Baby!" She called, moving towards him. “I was having an alone time and he just came in here and started fighting.”

"She's crazy.” I thought.

"I'll go after Viktor, I'll meet you at the pack, Alpha.” I mindlinked him before running out of the cabin through the opening at the back. It was definitely where he followed to avoid being seen by the other warriors.

His scent was still strong so I followed it, running as fast as I could so I wouldn't lose him. I wasn't sure how long I was running for but I soon came face to face with another cabin that was in the middle of nowhere.

I paused, taking in the surrounding, nothing smelt out of place and the only smell belonged to Viktor. He must've thought no one would follow him this far.

Going towards the cabin, I pushed the door open but that turned out to be a huge mistake.

“For a Gamma, you're pretty predictable." Viktor laughed, standing up. "But good thing because you're going to bring what we want to us.”

I didn't have to ask what he was talking about when a woman, one I assume was his wife, came out of another room. There was a smirk on her lips.

“If you want to leave here alive, then mindlink your Luna and get her here." She said, “don't even think about playing smart, it's not going to end well for you."

Ignoring her, I tried to mindlink Zayne but I felt a barrier, making it impossible. Of course, she was a witch and was capable of doing it. “Even if I ended up dying, there was no way that I would ask Luna Alyssa to come here for whatever reason.

"They were just two, and I'm sure I could easily take Viktor." I thought, and made to move, but it felt like my legs were stuck to the ground, causing me to frown.

“You have two options,” she said calmly. "bring that girl here or die. And you're running out of time.”

"I’d rather die!” I spat.

She smiled, "I can arrange that too.” She said, and almost immediately, the door opened and three rogues entered, each of them grabbing me. They tied my hand and covered my face.

Then the first punch landed. A fist crashed into my stomach, forcing the air from my lungs. Then another one hit the side of my face, sending my head snapping to the side.

A kick followed, slamming into my ribs before I had the chance to recover. Several punches hit me and since I couldn't see, there was no way to dodge them. All I could do was brace myself and endure each hit as pain exploded through every part of my body.
“Baby! Are you okay?" Elara's voice asked. "Please be okay.” She cried.

My chest tightened, the fact that I couldn't feel my wolf made it impossible to keep her out of how I was feeling.

"I'm fine, just a–” I started before I felt the wall come up again and a loud laugh from the witch.

After what felt like forever, she spoke again. "It seems we have visitors.” She said, and I begged the moon goddess that it was Zayne and not who I thought.

“Tristan baby!"

My heart stopped, I squeezed my eyes shut beneath the blindfold.

Moon goddess...please tell me I was hearing things.
