Chapter 152: The Ambush
Zayne's POV
With Red and the girls away, I was a bit relieved and definitely focused to continue going over our already set plans. And with only a few hours left, every single moment counted.
“Alpha," Xavier called, “what do we do about Luna Valerie? We already know she's on their side.”
“You'll bring her in once I leave and then come join us." I told him.
He frowned, “but Alpha, we need all hands with Dylan and his stepmother because it's still uncertain how many people they're working with and which charm they're using."
“I know, but we can't leave any loose ends.” I said, "my dad would join us.”
He paused as if he wanted to say something but changed his mind. Tristan joined us and for the last time before everything went down, we went over the plan and once we were certain about it, we called it a night.
A part of me thought about the fact that I should've let Nyra come along since she had invisibility power but I couldn't risk something going wrong and having her in the middle of it. Red would be heartbroken if anything happened to her and that was the last thing I wanted.
"Moon goddess, please keep my mate safe.” I prayed, and for the first time in a long time, I went to sleep without Red in my arms.
The next morning, everything was ready, the warriors were also prepared to bring an end to the longest case we've had to deal with. "Don't forget, lock her in the dungeon. We can't risk information getting out before we get there.” I told Tristan.
"Yes Alpha.” He said, and taking a few warriors with him, he bowed his head, waiting for us to leave.
"Do you have it? It's time we leave too.” Xavier said.
"It's already in the car.” I replied, "I couldn't risk them hearing this part of the conversation. But we can go now."
We made our way to the car, but not without hiding our scents, leaving Red and the girl's scents from their clothes to fill the car.
The car was quiet as we drove, and my mind went to Red. There was no doubt she was worried about this and if she had her way, would be here instead. A small smile crossed my lips, Jace had his hand full and I had no doubt he was doing the most important job.
“Alpha, Luna Valerie left the house.” Tristan said, through our mindlink and I looked at Xavier. "She's probably going to meet Viktor.”
"Let her go, it makes the job of catching both of them together easier."
“Yes Alpha." He replied, then he paused. “Please be careful, Alpha.”
I nodded even though he couldn't see me, “you too." I told him, before ending the mindlink.
The car went silent again, and I tried picking up any strange smell or anything as there was no movement to give away the fact that we weren't alone. But I knew better than to trust that feeling considering what I know now.
“Alpha–” Xavier started, but I caught sight of a movement and a smile appeared on my face.
“They're here!" I told Xavier and his eyes widened as he looked around. A frown appeared on his face when he didn't see anything. But he didn't have to wait long enough as they began emerging one after the other. There were quite a lot of them and considering the last attack where they lost a lot of men, they really took their time preparing for this.
My wolf snorted, “If they were here for our mate, why the fuck did he bring all his army?” He asked.
“Scared?" I taunted him.
He scoffed, “As if." He said, "I can't wait to be standing on his dead body.” He added.
The car slowed down as they gathered in front of the car. “Alpha…what do I do?” The warrior driving asked, turning to look at me.
"Stop the car." I ordered. The car made a screeching sound before coming to a stop.
Once the car stopped, Dylan strode towards us, his eyes fixed on the car with each step that he took. A look of determination on his face. This was the first time I was seeing him up close and it was like staring at my face, except for his tattoos and all.
“Let’s put an end to this.” Xavier said and my wolf murmured something along the lines of ‘fuck yeah!’
Dylan reached for the door’s handle and flung it open, his eyes widened not hiding the fact that he was caught off guard but before he could react, I launched myself at him.
He immediately shifted into his wolf and I let my wolf, who had been waiting for this moment, take over. My claws swiped at Dylan, but he dodged in time, his movements really fast. He snarled, his eyes flashing with anger.
Though strong, he was no match for us as we threw ourselves at him again. This time, my claw dug into his arms, earning a loud growl but it didn't stop me from digging even deeper. He pulled away, stumbling backwards a bit, his eyes trained on me, watching my every move before coming at me.
Dylan charged at me with a fierce snarl, his jaws wide open. I met him head-on, our bodies colliding and our teeth snapping wildly as we fought. Dylan’s claws raked across my side, but I barely felt the pain, my adrenaline-fueled rage driving me forward. I was determined to end this here and now.
My jaws closed around Dylan's shoulder causing him to yelp in pain, but refused to yield, thrashing his body wildly in an attempt to break free. I held him, my grip tightened, as we tumbled to the ground, our bodies locked in a fierce struggle.
The sound of snarling and snapping filled the air, even from my warriors, who were standing their ground. There were a lot of bodies on the ground, all of them in their human form, after being severely injured.
Dylan staggered backward, breathing hard, his movements slowing as blood dripped from the deep wounds covering his body, but he still managed to land a few good hits, his claws digging deep into my flesh. I felt anger rising in my vein, “This is taking way too long, let's finish him." My wolf said, equally angry.
And with one final surge of strength, I overpowered him, pinning him to the ground. Dylan's eyes met mine, a mixture of anger and defeat flashing in them, sinking my claws into his stomach, causing him to cough out blood before finally slumping.
“Alpha–” Came Xavier 's voice, a hint of panic in them. "Your dad just mindlinked me…Tristan is–”
I froze, if he was talking, I couldn't hear anything as my mind went blank. “Tristan, can you hear me?” I asked but there was no response.
Dylan chuckled lowly, spitting out blood. “You think you're going to win?” He spat.
"Go look for him, I don't care how many warriors you take, find him.” I ordered, "go now.”
He nodded, and I watched him disappear into the crowd, where most of our warriors were standing over the dead bodies of the rogues. We also had some warriors who were wounded and as much as I wanted to drop everything and go in search of him, I needed to wrap things up.
"Take him back to the Pack, lock him in the dungeon." I told two warriors, who nodded and grabbed him.
I gave orders to the other warriors and immediately ran across the forest until a sharp pain ripped through my chest.
“Red!"
