Chapter 147 Night Before the War

Chapter 147 Night Before the War
Our conversation was interrupted by a knock at the door, and I quickly opened it. Eugenia and Michael stood on the threshold, and I immediately pulled them both into my arms.

"Eugenia, I'm so happy to see you!"

It had been months since I had last seen Eugenia, and guilt was eating at me for not standing up for her when she was kidnapped.

Eugenia wiped away tears. "I'm glad to see you too, Deli. I was so afraid something had happened to you."

"I'm the one who was worried about you. Especially after you were taken. What happened after that?"

Before Eugenia could answer, Elijah approached us and said a quick goodbye.

"I need to meet with the other alphas. There's something we need to discuss," Elijah said.

I nodded. "Okay, my king."

"See you at dinner." Elijah gave a small smile.

After he left, Eugenia and Michael entered my room, and the three of us sat down to talk.

Eugenia told me what had happened to her after she had been taken.

"I was kidnapped by Fergus's men," she said. "After that, I was held captive in his estate. For months."

"In a cell?" I asked in disbelief.

Eugenia shook her head. "No, Deli. I was forced to work as a maid in his house. But you understand, it still felt like a prison."

My heart ached for Eugenia. I should have defended her, but what could I do? I was severely hurt myself at the time.

"I'm so sorry," I said.

"You don't have to apologize. You had to survive. You're the heir of the Crescent Moon. It's my duty to protect you."

Michael turned to me and looked shocked.

"Eugenia knows about the pendant I have. In fact... she knew before you did, Michael, along with your father. And I guess Vincent found out later," I explained.

Eugenia chuckled. "That's why Camden targeted me. He assumed I would reveal information about Princess Imogen and her young daughter. But I kept my mouth shut."

"So Elijah is the only one who doesn't know?" Michael whispered.

"Why didn't you tell King Elijah, Deli? You're mates. You love each other. I think if he knew, he would be happy," Eugenia said, overseeing me. "Elijah isn't a cruel king like my ex-husband. You know what I mean, don't you?"

"I do, Eugenia. It's just..." My throat tightened.

My mind drifted to my twins. This was too complicated. I had to claim the throne—to protect my children.

"We'll see how Elijah reacts when Delilah takes the throne. No matter what, I will always stand by her," Michael said firmly. "And I would die for you, Deli."

Eugenia smiled. "I think King Elijah would do the same. If he knew you were the heir to Crescent Moon, he'd probably give up the throne for you, Delilah."

I smiled bitterly. "Well, I don't want to speculate. Right now, the priority is to take down Wanda."

After dinner, I went to the hall where Jeremy and the other alphas discussed strategies to defeat the rogue wolves attacking from all sides. The army was already moving toward the palace.

Elijah was there, too. He was the only one who stood out of all the gathered alphas.

"Look at him - so sexy in that blue shirt with the top buttons undone. He's a mature Alpha, but his charm is undeniable, right?" Lona, my wolf, purred.

I felt my face heat up.

Elijah turned to me and smiled.

"You're lucky, Delilah. Elijah is a fair king. When you take the throne, will you make him your king?" Lona asked.

That was something I hadn't thought about.

I had read about an Alpha Queen who ruled her kingdom until her son became the next Alpha. Her mate had died in battle, and she had taken over the leadership.

So, if I wanted to become Alpha, it wasn't impossible.

"Deli, you'll go with the unit led by King Elijah. Stay in the back where you'll be safe," Jeremy instructed.

I wanted to laugh at how awkwardly Jeremy called him 'King.' But there were royal Alphas present, and I knew he respected the Alliance.

I nodded. "Understood, Jeremy."

"Michael and Toby..."

I didn't hear the rest. Elijah suddenly linked our minds.

'I miss you, beautiful.'

'Focus, my king. We're in the middle of a war.'

'Hmm... so I can't compliment you? What if this is the last chance I get?'

'Don't say that!'

'I hate it when you talk like that, my king! You make me worry!'

'Sorry, my love. But I can't shake these thoughts every time I see you.'

'What thoughts?'

'I want to ride you.'

"Deli?" Jeremy's voice brought me back to reality.

"Ah, yeah?

What was that?" I stammered, feeling like I'd been caught doing something scandalous. "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

I glanced at Elijah, who was grinning. Oh, he was going to pay for this.

...

After the meeting, we all went back to our quarters. Tomorrow was a big day, and we needed rest. But who could sleep peacefully knowing that war was coming?

I padded next to Elijah. Everyone knew we were mates, so we were free to be together.

When we reached my door, we stopped. I opened it and turned to Elijah.

"See you tomorrow, my king," I said.

"Yes." Elijah stepped closer and planted a kiss on my forehead. "Get some rest."

He turned to leave, but a strange fear gripped me. What if something happened tomorrow? I didn't want to be alone tonight.

"My king?"

Elijah stopped and looked back. "What is it, Deli?"

"I want to sleep with you."

He stepped toward me again. "Why?"

"You're my buddy! Why do you even have to ask? Everyone knows we belong together. What's wrong with us sleeping together?"

Elijah chuckled. "All right! You're adorable. Let's go inside. I'll snuggle you like Aurora and Arthur."
