Chapter 92 An Adventure
"Ms. Richardson?" Kyle saw she wasn't speaking and walked up to her in a few steps.
Yasmin forced herself to ignore Samuel's cold gaze and managed a strained smile. "Sorry, I just remembered I have something urgent at home, so I need to leave first. Mr. McGinnis, if there's any news, please let me know and I'll come back right after I handle things."
Kyle had a good impression of Yasmin.
He was eager to get Yasmin's contact information, so he immediately took out his phone and added her contact.
"I'll be going then."
After exchanging contact information, Yasmin prepared to leave.
Kyle was about to nod when Jeremy and York stepped forward, blocking Yasmin's way.
Yasmin frowned. "What do you think you're doing?"
York said bluntly, "You can't leave."
Yasmin's expression darkened.
"You have no right to restrict my freedom, do you?"
Just as York was about to speak, Jeremy beside him smiled and said, "Ms. Richardson, don't misunderstand. We just have a few things we need to clear up. Once we do, we'll naturally let Ms. Richardson go."
One playing bad cop and one playing good cop made it difficult for Yasmin to just push through.
She said, "Whatever it is can wait. I have something urgent to deal with right now."
Jeremy's smile widened.
"What urgent matter does Ms. Richardson need to handle? I can take care of it for you."
"It's a family matter. I don't need someone else to handle it."
"Then please wait just a bit longer, Ms. Richardson. No matter how urgent, it can't be more urgent than Geraldo's life. Since you're his student, you should stay, shouldn't you?"
"I—"
Samuel's voice rang out at that moment.
"You can go. Jeremy, you go with her to handle her family matter. When you're done, bring her back personally."
"Yes!" Jeremy immediately responded.
Yasmin didn't actually have any urgent matter.
She bit down hard on her teeth, realizing that forcing her way out would only increase their suspicion. She simply said, "Fine, you're right. No matter how urgent, nothing is more important than Mr. McGinnis's safety. I'll deal with my matter later."
With that, she stepped back, no longer insisting on leaving.
Seeing this, York withdrew his blocking hand, but kept his eyes fixed on her, not giving her a chance to slip away.
Jeremy followed Yasmin to the side and asked, "We want to understand what happened that caused Mr. McGinnis to suddenly fall ill?"
Yasmin had already explained this to the McGinnis family.
She repeated, "I was at the entrance of Luminance Art Gallery when Mr. McGinnis saw me and said he wanted to talk to me about something. We chose a café to sit down and have coffee."
"And then?" Jeremy pressed.
"Then we had just chatted for a bit when Mr. McGinnis said his chest felt uncomfortable."
"I immediately told him to go to the hospital, but he said it was an old problem and told me not to worry."
"But after a while, his face suddenly looked terrible and his breathing became rapid. By the time I realized something was wrong, he had already passed out."
"Seeing the situation was bad, I immediately ran out to call for help. You know what happened after that—he was sent straight here."
Kyle nodded in agreement at this point.
"I've always lived with my grandfather. He's been feeling chest tightness a lot lately."
"But he's stubborn and refuses to go to the hospital. He just says it's a common problem when you get old."
"I couldn't convince him, so I had to let it go for now."
"But I had secretly arranged for a checkup, planning to force him to go to the hospital after he finished with the Luminance Art Gallery exhibition."
"I never thought..."
Kyle's voice became choked up.
To him, Geraldo was closer than his own parents.
He had learned to paint with Geraldo since childhood and lived with him, while Griffin and Christina were often away on business trips and rarely spent time with him.
Jeremy turned to look at Samuel.
Samuel thought for a moment, then suddenly asked, "Where are the two bodyguards who were with your grandfather?"
Kyle said, "They went downstairs to the payment window to pay the fees."
Samuel looked at Jeremy, who immediately understood and went downstairs to find them.
Yasmin was a bit nervous, but not so nervous that it showed.
Because only she and Geraldo knew what happened in that private room.
As long as Geraldo died, no one could blame her.
Even if they suspected her, it was useless without solid evidence.
Phoenicia's law had always been "innocent until proven guilty."
Meanwhile, in the operating room.
Amelia had taken over the surgery and become the lead surgeon.
People in Thornfield all thought she only knew traditional medicine, but modern medicine was actually also her forte.
Although traditional medicine had a long history, there was a reason modern medicine had become even more widespread in such a short time—it had its advantages.
So she never avoided learning modern medicine while studying traditional medicine.
The operating room lights were bright and hot, and beads of sweat soon appeared on Amelia's forehead.
An assistant nearby quickly wiped the sweat away for her.
When Amelia first arrived, everyone in the operating room was dissatisfied with her.
Especially the lead surgeon who had become Amelia's assistant.
A doctor Amelia's age could only learn in the operating room and at most be an assistant, but now she had taken his position with an official document from Clifton.
He felt this was playing with the patient's life.
Until Amelia demonstrated her surgical skills.
Those incisions, those movements—all approaching perfection, leaving nothing to criticize.
As a veteran cardiac surgeon, after observing for just ten minutes or so, he could confirm that Amelia's medical skills were definitely superior to his.
So later on, he completely changed his view of Amelia, and even though he had originally planned to leave, he voluntarily became Amelia's assistant.
Because the assistant position gave the best view to observe Amelia's medical skills and learn from them.
Good doctors engage in healthy competition.
He wouldn't hold a grudge just because Amelia took his position as lead surgeon.
As long as Amelia truly had the ability, he didn't mind letting someone else have the surgical success.
And now, he was certain that Amelia indeed had that ability.
Time passed minute by minute.
Everyone in the operating room performed their duties.
The electronic clock on the wall showed that two and a half hours had passed.
Just then, the monitor suddenly sounded an alarm.
"This is bad! The patient's bleeding won't stop, and blood pressure keeps dropping."
Amelia's expression became grave, but her movements remained steady.
"Does your hospital have an ECMO machine?"
The lead surgeon nodded. "Yes."
"Start VA-ECMO."
"We need to get the family's consent first for this."
"No need, that's wasting time! I'm his family member. I'll sign."
"Yes."
Amelia quickly signed and had the ECMO started for Geraldo.
This was an advanced life support technology mainly used for patients with severe cardiopulmonary failure, perfectly suited for Geraldo's current condition.
But once the machine started, it would start burning through money.
However, she wasn't short on money, and neither was the McGinnis family.
As long as they could save him, money meant nothing.
But there was another price to pay.
ECMO operation was complex and high-risk. One wrong move could make the situation even more critical.
So this was a gamble.
Amelia stared intently at Geraldo.
'Geraldo, you must hold on,' she wondered.
