Chapter 298 Why Are You Playing Me?
Marlowe was a bit annoyed.
Amelia had tricked her!
And Amelia was still looking at her with a big smile on her face.
Just thinking about it made her angry!
Marlowe shook off Amelia's hand and said bluntly, "Why did you trick me for no reason?"
Amelia looked innocent.
"I didn't trick you."
"You did! You asked me where I got yesterday's medicine from, and said it was hard to explain over the phone, so you told me to come straight to the hospital."
Amelia tilted her head and asked innocently, "What's wrong with that? I just thought the medicine worked really well, so I asked you where it came from because I wanted to buy more."
"Then why did you say you couldn't explain it over the phone?"
Amelia glanced at Natalie and said, "Aunt Marlowe, the misunderstanding between you and my mom really is hard to explain over the phone. So if you two meet and talk in person, wouldn't that clear things up?"
"You're quite the smooth talker. I wonder who you learned that from!"
"I'm self-taught." She said this with a smile, then added, "Aunt Marlowe, you're clearly worried about my mom. Now that you're already here, why can't you just have a meal together?"
Natalie also looked at Marlowe, seeming like she wanted to say something but held back.
Marlowe clenched her fists, turned her head away, and said, "I'm very busy today. I have to a deal to close and the client will arrive in half an hour's time, so I need to get back."
Seeing this, Natalie only said, "I didn't know Amelia called you. Since you have business to attend to, let's meet another day."
"I'll be going then." Marlowe responded, feeling frustrated.
However, Amelia spoke up at this moment, "Aunt Marlowe, is your deal about the partnership with Aurevia Studio?"
Marlowe looked at her in shock.
"How do you know?"
She was a low-key person who never talked about things publicly before they were done.
Landing the big deal with Aurevia Studio—only she and a few executives knew about this.
Amelia said, "Aurevia Studio is my company."
Now not only Marlowe was shocked, but Natalie was stunned too.
Natalie never actively asked Amelia about these things. First, because the situation was special before and she didn't want to add to Amelia's troubles. Second, Natalie never actively asked about things others didn't volunteer to share.
As for Amelia, she felt these small matters weren't necessary to tell Natalie about.
Over there, after a moment of shock, Marlowe frowned.
"Did you make Aurevia Studio give me this deal?"
Amelia didn't deny it and asked directly, "Aunt Marlowe, now you don't need to worry about the partnership. Can you have a meal with us?"
Marlowe's stubborn nature kicked in again.
"Are you threatening me?"
Amelia shook her head, "Aunt Marlowe, you've got it wrong. I'm bribing you."
Marlowe didn't know what to say to that.
Amelia spoke again, "I've already booked a restaurant, All Seasons Table. Aunt Marlowe, can you accept the invitation now?"
Marlowe closed her eyes and took a deep breath before looking up at Amelia.
She had the feeling that no matter what move she made, it would be like punching cotton.
Whatever.
She'd just go easy on the kid.
"When are we leaving? Can her leg handle eating out?"
Amelia smiled.
"Of course. I've prepared a wheelchair."
"Where's the wheelchair?"
Amelia immediately pushed the wheelchair over.
"The test results won't be ready until later. We can go have a meal and come back for the report. But I'm guessing there's nothing seriously wrong."
As she spoke, she helped Natalie into the wheelchair.
Marlowe looked at Amelia's small frame and worried she might drop Natalie, so she said with a stern face, "You hold the wheelchair, I'll do it."
Amelia hid the smile in her eyes and nodded in agreement.
Natalie's condition actually didn't require a wheelchair—she could walk on her own.
But to prevent a second sprain, they got a wheelchair.
Natalie had wanted to tell Amelia not to bother, but seeing Marlowe actually volunteer to push the wheelchair, she kept quiet.
Louis was waiting at the hospital entrance.
Amelia had Byron focus on winning over the Monroe family first, so he didn't need to worry about things here.
The three of them quickly arrived at the restaurant.
But Marlowe rarely spoke, only saying a word or two when Amelia pressed her.
Although Natalie and Marlowe eating together on the same table, they acted like strangers.
Amelia wanted to do something more to help the sisters reconcile, but just then she received a call from Samuel.
She excused herself to the two of them and walked outside the private room before answering.
"What's up? I'm having dinner with my mom and my aunt."
Her smile was faint.
Although things between Natalie and Marlowe weren't progressing much, there was at least some improvement.
Marlowe was taking out her resentment toward Natalie on Amelia, which actually made her speak more gently to Natalie.
This was a good thing.
Anyway, Amelia didn't mind Marlowe's attitude. She could tell that Marlowe was tough on the outside but soft on the inside. Otherwise, Marlowe wouldn't have specially prepared that topical medicine and claim it was just leftovers from what she used.
She was about to tell Samuel about this when she heard him say in a very serious tone, "Something happened to Stella."
Amelia felt uneasy.
"What happened? What's wrong?"
"We don't know the details yet. Yosef just called me saying he hasn't been able to reach Stella all day, and he's already on his way to the snow mountain resort."
"The signal there isn't great to begin with. Could it be a signal problem?"
"The internet there is not stable, but phone signal is normally fine. And Yosef said Stella would never go a whole day without responding to his messages."
Amelia started getting anxious too.
"Then I'll head over there now to check."
"I'll go with you."
"No, you handle your business. If there's really a problem, I'll call you."
"I'm already done. Jeremy and York can handle what's left."
"Alright then, I'll drive over to pick you up. I'm very close to the Crawford Group."
"What about your mother?"
"My aunt is here. She'll take my mom home, and it'll give them some time alone together."
"Okay, drive carefully."
"Will do."
Amelia hung up and quickly returned to the private room.
After Amelia excused herself, neither Natalie nor Marlowe had said a word.
Seeing Amelia return, both their expressions relaxed to different degrees.
But then they heard Amelia say, "Mom, Aunt Marlowe, something came up suddenly and I need to leave early."
"What happened?"
"It's Stella. My friend suddenly can't reach her, so I need to go back to the snow mountain resort."
"Is there any danger? Shouldn't you have the guesthouse owner go check on her first?"
That actually reminded Amelia of the possibility.
She said, "I'll call them in a bit."
Then she said to Marlowe, "Aunt Marlowe, I'll have to ask you to take my mom home. I'll pick up the hospital report myself later."
Marlowe knew how to prioritize. Hearing this, she nodded and said, "Go take care of your business. I'll make sure she gets home."
"Thank you!"
Amelia thanked her earnestly.
Marlowe moved her lips but in the end said nothing.
She actually wanted to say that taking Natalie home didn't require thanks.
