Chapter 297 Tricked
Natalie had been waiting at home for a long time.
She was worried that Amelia might be mistreated at the Wood's family place.
But she was also afraid that Amelia's temper would explode and she'd tear the Wood Villa apart.
She knew that Amelia was great in every way and usually had a good temper, but when it came to people she cared about—like Natalie herself—Amelia was capable of doing just about anything.
So despite her injured foot, she pushed herself to come downstairs from the second floor and waited at the living room entrance.
Fortunately, Amelia finally came back.
And she was smiling, seeming to be in a good mood.
There were no bloodstains on her either.
So the Wood's family members probably weren't hurt.
Natalie's tense nerves relaxed, but once she relaxed, her legs couldn't support her anymore and she stumbled.
Amelia got out of the car just in time to see Natalie falling and rushed over immediately.
But she was too far away.
Luckily, Grant in the living room noticed something was wrong, rushed over, and caught Natalie in time.
"What happened?"
Amelia walked over with a stern face, helping to support Natalie while scolding Grant.
"Didn't I tell you to take good care of Mom at home? She almost fell just now!"
Grant couldn't defend himself.
It was Natalie who spoke up, "Don't blame him. It was me—I wanted to wait for you at the door."
Grant showed an appropriately aggrieved expression.
Amelia sighed and said, "Fine, let's help you sit down first."
Once Natalie was seated on the sofa, Amelia immediately checked her foot injury.
Fortunately, the injury hadn't gotten worse, though it hadn't improved either.
"Aunt Marlowe gave me some medicine. I looked at it in the car and found it's exactly what you need. Let me go get some bandages to apply the medicine for you."
But Natalie grabbed her hand.
"Medicine from Marlowe?"
"Yes."
"How come?"
Natalie said in surprise, "I tried to contact her several times before and she wouldn't respond. I thought she didn't want me as her sister anymore."
Amelia smiled, "Do you know what it means to say the opposite of what you mean?"
"Aunt Marlowe doesn't have you out of her heart. On the contrary, she cares about you too much. She feels that you abandoned her back then, so she doesn't want to respond to you either."
"Mom, I can tell that Aunt Marlowe still cares about you. If you find a chance to explain things to her clearly, I believe she'll understand."
Natalie nodded blankly.
Amelia went to get the bandages.
The medicinal powder mixed with some water became a black paste.
After applying it to the injured area, Natalie felt a cooling sensation where it was swollen and painful.
"Much more comfortable," Natalie said.
Amelia smiled, "This is really good medicine. Two of the ingredients are hard to find."
She added, "Aunt Marlowe said this was leftover medicine she had, but I checked—this is fresh medicine, made just today."
Natalie's eyes couldn't help but moisten.
"She's still the same as when she was little."
When she likes something, she doesn't say she likes it. Unless someone offers it to her first, she won't mention it.
If someone says something that upsets her, she doesn't get angry, but just acts cold and distant toward them for a long time.
"The others," Natalie hesitantly asked, "how did the others treat you?"
Amelia told her the truth.
"Everyone wanted to use me, except for Aunt Marlowe."
Natalie wasn't surprised, but her expression dimmed.
She had guessed it would be like this.
She just still held hope for her family.
Hope that after all these years, they might have changed.
Turned out they were still the same.
"They asked me to help connect them with people. I half-agreed verbally, but I don't plan to follow through."
"You don't need to help them," Natalie said. "Don't worry about me—you can turn them down if you want to."
Amelia nodded, then grabbed Natalie's arm and said, "Actually, this time I went back, I got some justice for you."
"What justice?"
Amelia took out the contract.
"From now on, this building is yours."
Natalie was shocked.
"My mom actually agreed to sign?"
"Because she wanted something from me."
Natalie shook her head helplessly, then worried about what would happen if they caused trouble when Amelia couldn't deliver.
Amelia said, "Doesn't matter. By the time they figure it out, it'll be too late. They can't do anything to us."
Even the Hays family wasn't a match for her—how much trouble could the small Wood family cause?
She had ten thousand ways to destroy them.
Natalie realized—
She had almost forgotten that Amelia wasn't an ordinary person.
...
The next day, Amelia called Marlowe.
Marlowe hadn't given her contact information, but how could that stop Amelia?
Not only did she get Marlowe's number, she also found out that Marlowe had started her own advertising company.
The company wasn't large, but making a living in the vast city of Thornfield was no problem.
Among the Wood family siblings, Marlowe was actually doing the best.
The call connected quickly.
Marlowe's puzzled voice came through, "Who is this?"
"It's me, Amelia."
Marlowe paused, then said in a heavy tone, "Where did you get my number?"
Amelia didn't answer that question, but asked urgently, "Aunt Marlowe, where did you get that medicine from yesterday?"
Marlowe's breathing stopped.
"What's wrong? Is there a problem with the medicine? Is Natalie okay?"
"I can't explain over the phone. Come to the hospital right now."
"Which hospital?"
"Metropolitan Health Center."
"I'll be right there!"
Marlowe immediately dropped what she was doing, gave her assistant a few instructions, and hurried to drive to Metropolitan Health Center.
On the way, the car sped along. What should have been an hour's drive was cut in half, and she even ran a red light.
When she got to the hospital, she immediately called Amelia.
"Where are you? I'm at the hospital."
"First floor, outside the CT room."
Marlowe rushed to the CT room and saw Amelia sitting in the waiting area.
She walked up quickly.
"Where's your mom?"
"Inside."
"How is she? What's wrong with her?"
Amelia said, "She'll be out soon. You can see for yourself."
Marlowe frowned.
"What do you mean 'see for myself'? What exactly is wrong with her?"
Just as she finished speaking, there was a sound from the CT room. The heavy door opened and Natalie walked out.
She didn't need anyone's help, just walked a bit stiffly.
Seeing Marlowe, Natalie was also surprised.
"Marlowe? What are you doing here?"
Marlowe was even more surprised.
She looked Natalie up and down and asked, "What's wrong with you?"
"Nothing's wrong with me, just my foot. Amelia was worried and wanted me to get an X-ray, so I did. Why did you come?"
Marlowe suddenly looked at Amelia, realizing she'd been tricked.
She turned to leave.
Amelia grabbed her and said, "Aunt Marlowe, where are you going? Since you're finally here, why don't we all have lunch together?"
