Chapter 122 He Can Walk Now
Amelia wasn't surprised at all by Liam's refusal.
She'd guessed this would happen, which is why she didn't speak up first and let Grant bring it up instead.
But Grant was anxious and brought up how Amelia had just gone into the operating room a couple days ago and saved the master painter Geraldo.
"Amelia's medical skills are really good. The surgeon who operated on Geraldo now really admires Amelia."
Liam was a bit surprised.
He thought Amelia only knew folk medicine, but it turned out she could actually perform surgery too.
But after just a moment, Liam's expression returned to what it was before.
"Really, there's no need..."
Amelia finally spoke up. She stared at Liam's somewhat dim eyes and said, "Liam, you won't let me treat you because you're scared, right? You're afraid of getting your hopes up again, only to face disappointment afterwards, so you keep refusing me. Is that it?"
Liam's back stiffened - she'd clearly zeroed in on the truth.
Grant was startled too, giving her a look that suggested she should think carefully before speaking.
Liam couldn't handle being provoked.
Amelia ignored Grant.
If he couldn't even handle this much, he didn't deserve to be her big brother, and certainly didn't deserve to humiliate Tessa later on.
Liam wasn't provoked. After two seconds of silence, he nodded honestly.
"Yes, I am scared, I am a coward... I'm sorry, Amelia, for making you see me like this."
"But what if I guarantee you that I can definitely cure your legs, one hundred percent? Would you still refuse me?"
Liam froze.
Grant froze too.
No doctor would dare make such a promise.
Doctors are always careful, afraid of that one-in-ten-thousand chance of an accident that would be impossible to explain.
But Amelia dared to say it, because it was the truth.
After several treatments, she was certain she could cure Liam's legs.
"You..." Liam's lips trembled as he struggled to find his voice. "You can really cure my legs?"
"Of course it's true."
As Amelia spoke, she stood up from her chair and took away the walker in front of Liam.
The walker was like a lightweight table that Liam used to move around his room when he was alone.
Without the walker, he couldn't move an inch.
But he was sitting on the sofa now, so he didn't need the walker. He just wondered why Amelia was taking it away.
Amelia placed the walker about 10 feet away from Liam, then turned and came back to stand in front of him.
"Liam, stand up now and walk over to the walker."
Liam didn't move. His expression was awkward.
Without the walker, he couldn't take a single step. Amelia asking him to walk was like asking him to pluck stars from the sky.
"Amelia, I can't walk."
But Amelia's eyes were firm.
"Liam, if you don't try, how do you know you can't do it?"
Grant couldn't stand watching and stepped forward to remind Amelia, "Liam really can't walk. He's tried many times before."
Amelia said, "Before was before, now is now. Liam, just walk once for me to see, okay?"
Liam really cared for Amelia. For this sister who'd been lost since childhood, whatever she wanted, he gave her.
Since she wanted to see him make a fool of himself, he'd just have to take a fall for her to see.
If he could make his sister laugh, the fall would be worth it.
Liam nodded, placed his hands on the sofa armrests, slowly stood up, and then stepped forward.
He had no hope whatsoever.
In fact, as he took that step, he'd already prepared to protect himself from the fall - putting his hands up to guard his head.
But he didn't fall.
His feet steadily took that step, his body not tilting even slightly.
Liam's eyes widened in disbelief, feeling like he was dreaming.
Grant thought something was wrong with his eyes. He rubbed them, but Liam was still standing there steadily.
He instinctively looked at Amelia and saw her red lips curve slightly, revealing a smile.
Yes, Amelia usually looked cold, like she wanted to keep everyone at a distance.
But when she smiled, she actually had dimples.
It's just that she rarely showed this kind of genuine smile, so people hardly noticed.
Grant felt this must have something to do with Amelia; otherwise, she wouldn't be smiling so naturally.
Sure enough, he heard Amelia say, "Liam, take a few more steps forward and walk to the walker."
Liam nodded, his chest heaving violently with excitement.
He told himself to calm down, took a deep breath, and moved his feet forward again.
One step, two steps...
But after only walking half the distance, his feet suddenly gave way, and he pitched forward.
Amelia reacted quickly, catching Liam and having Grant bring the walker over.
Liam grabbed the walker and stood steady again, but his face showed indescribable joy and excitement.
"Amelia, I... I..."
He was too excited to form a complete sentence.
Grant spoke up to ask Amelia what was going on.
"Amelia, how can Liam suddenly walk?"
Although he'd only walked less than 6 feet, before this, even taking a single step was beyond Liam's reach.
Amelia stopped hiding it.
She helped Liam sit back down on the sofa and explained everything from start to finish.
When Liam heard that she'd been sneaking in every night to treat his legs, this 6'2" grown man had tears falling from his eyes.
He reached up to wipe them, but they just kept coming.
"Amelia, thank you. And I'm sorry..."
Thank for working so hard every night to treat him.
Sorry for not agreeing to let her treat him, making her sneak in like a thief every night.
Amelia understood it all.
She patiently waited for Liam to finish crying before speaking again. "So, Liam, are you willing to let me treat your legs now?"
What else could Liam say?
Of course it was...
"Yes!"
Amelia nodded. "In that case, I'll officially start treating you from today. But even though you're my big brother, I won't treat you for free."
Liam didn't think she was being petty - he only thought she was adorable and smart.
Girls should be like this, not giving things away for free. If you give, you should get something back.
This applied to money, and even more so to feelings.
Otherwise, it would make the girl seem cheap.
"How much do you want? All my money is yours. I won't keep any of it."
Amelia said, "I don't want money. I need you to help me with a few things."
"What things?"
"Liam, I'll be honest with you. I have a bit of a grudge against the Young family, so I could use your help for revenge. But if you're going to help me, you need to find a way to overcome your psychological issues first. Otherwise, when we're in front of the Young family, they'll only need to say a few words to break you down. When that happens, forget about revenge - you'll just get in the way."
