Chapter 40 The Match Begins

Chapter 40 The Match Begins

Sebastian looked at Eve, who was single-handedly facing off against over twenty top students from Seaside Maritime Institute without batting an eye, and couldn't help but smile.

Holding his tablet and carrying his suit jacket, he walked straight out of the villa.

"Sebastian, I'll go get the car." Chase's gossip radar was going off the charts.

Without waiting for Sebastian's instructions, he hit the gas and headed straight for Emerald City High School.

Meanwhile, Eve had already worked out the competition format.

Best of three.

Three questions total - whoever solved two first would win.

To be fair, Professor Davis from Seaside Maritime Institute, responding to requests from the live audience, randomly connected with a university president. After explaining the situation, he asked them to provide a fairly difficult question.

Because of the math competition, Eve's reputation had already spread throughout various universities.

Hearing it involved Eve, they all agreed without hesitation.

Not only did they agree to help create questions, they also agreed to help judge the answers.

They even joined the livestream - something that rarely happened once in a blue moon.

The first question came from none other than the president of Pinnacle College.

After getting Eve's consent, they connected directly with Pinnacle College's president.

The president didn't hesitate and pulled out a math problem that had stumped countless students.

When the math problem appeared on the big screen, the livestream chat exploded.

Some cursed Seaside Maritime Institute for being unfair - college students challenging a high school student with a problem even college students couldn't solve - wasn't that just bullying?

Others were just there for the drama, thinking that Eve, as a high school sophomore who won first place in the competition, must have cheated somehow.

In an instant, the livestream audience split into two camps.

The chat channel erupted into heated arguments.

"Begin. You have half an hour. Whoever finishes first with the correct answer wins." The serious voice of Pinnacle College's president came through.

Eve carefully looked over the question once, didn't even pick up her pen, and her red lips parted slightly: "12."

What?

The comments flooded in:

'What does this Eve student mean, what's this 12?'

'Why isn't she writing? The Seaside Maritime Institute team has already started calculating, why isn't she picking up her pen? Does she not know how?'

'I told you her competition results must be fake.'

Eve couldn't be bothered to respond to such comments. She just looked calmly at Pinnacle College's president.

"The answer is 12."

What?

Now it was Pinnacle College president's turn to be shocked. When Eve first said 12, he had heard it but thought it was a coincidence and didn't take it seriously.

But now it seemed Eve didn't even need to write anything down - she calculated the result in just a few seconds?

And it was actually correct?

The Pinnacle College president double-checked, looking at the answer in his hand several times. The final result really was 12.

"Eve, have you lost your mind? This problem is so complex that even the seniors at Pinnacle College need a long time to solve it, and you just blurt out an answer?"

Joan, even in the middle of all this, didn't forget to mock Eve.

"Student Eve, showing off isn't necessarily a good thing." Professor Davis, looking all righteous, lectured Eve.

"Shut up!" Pinnacle College's president snapped, then his face broke into a kind smile as he looked at Eve warmly. "Student Eve, could you explain your solution process?"

Eve lazily shook her head. "Too simple, not interested."

Arrogant, absolutely arrogant.

Pinnacle College's president was momentarily speechless, but instead of getting angry, his eyes showed a hint of admiration.

"I now announce that for the first question, Emerald City High School, represented by student Eve, wins."

What?

As soon as Pinnacle College's president spoke, both the livestream and the venue exploded.

'What does that mean? Was Eve's answer actually correct?'

'No way, she solved such a complex advanced math problem in her head?'

'Holy crap, I actually dared to doubt her, what was I thinking.'

With one sentence from Pinnacle College's president, the atmosphere in the livestream instantly shifted, with more and more people admiring Eve.

"Eve, you just got lucky this time, randomly guessing a number and happening to get the right answer." Joan refused to accept it.

Their team had just used several sheets of scratch paper and only finished the first part, yet Eve had already given the answer?

And it was correct?

How could people not be suspicious?

Eve couldn't be bothered with a sore loser's tantrum.

She glanced at Professor Davis. "Hurry up and start the second question. Don't call me for such boring competitions in the future, it's a waste of time."

Eve was genuinely getting annoyed. She'd rather go home and get a good night's sleep than waste time here.

Professor Davis held back his frustration and started having the livestream audience pick names again.

This time, the president of Hudson Institute of Technology was chosen.

Without waiting for Professor Davis to contact them, Hudson Institute of Technology's president directly requested to connect. "I've already watched your first round. I happen to have a difficult problem here that hasn't been solved yet. Whoever can solve it, Hudson Institute of Technology promises to grant them one request."

'No way, a problem that even Hudson Institute of Technology can't solve, and they're bringing it here? Isn't that just making things impossible?'

'But a promise from Hudson Institute of Technology is really tempting though.'

'I wish I had that ability.'

The chat channel exploded again.

Eve looked at the question displayed in front of her and narrowed her eyes slightly - it was a physics problem.

An aerospace physics problem, no less.

She glanced at the connected Hudson Institute of Technology president. "I'll take Hudson Institute of Technology's promise."

Arrogant, absolutely arrogant.

Hudson Institute of Technology's president laughed heartily. "Good! Student Eve, if you can solve this problem, besides our Hudson Institute of Technology's promise, I'll personally give you another promise."

"Deal!"

Eve nodded, then looked at the physics problem again.

She picked up her pen and started writing rapidly on the paper.

'She's writing, she's finally writing.'

'Looks like this problem must be pretty difficult. Wonder if Eve can get it right.'

As Eve started writing, the entire livestream fell silent - you could hear a pin drop.

Countless people in front of their phones, computers, and tablets held their breath, worried their breathing might be too loud and affect Eve's performance.

"We've got it! The answer to this problem is light speed C equals 321." Joan proudly announced the result her team had calculated.

She glanced at Eve, who was still writing and calculating, and smiled smugly.

"Uncle President, can you announce now that Seaside Maritime Institute has won?"

Hudson Institute of Technology's president said nothing, still watching Eve as she just put down her pen.

"Trash will be trash," Eve said coldly. "This problem has no solution."
