Chapter 39 Another Bet Encounter
Chapter 39 Another Bet Encounter
"What? That's Eve?" Joan exclaimed, her suspicious gaze sweeping back and forth across Eve's face.
Finally, she couldn't help but sneer. "Looks like this Eve just got lucky winning that one math competition. Now that we're here, she's probably already hiding somewhere, isn't she?"
Hiding?
Eve ground her back teeth, looking at Professor Davis like he was an idiot.
"This is your school's elite? Looks like Seaside Maritime Institute isn't much after all," Joan said.
"Joan, come back here." Professor Davis snapped at her, then looked at Ye. "Are you really Eve?"
"The one and only," Eve nodded nonchalantly. "I don't think there's another Eve in Emerald City."
Professor Davis still didn't quite believe it. The Eve standing before him didn't look anything like someone who could solve a math problem that stumped all the top students at Princeton.
But years of caution made him pull out his phone and dial a number.
Eve didn't hear what the other person said, and couldn't be bothered to listen.
But from Professor Davis's constantly changing expression, she could guess he was probably having someone verify her identity.
Sure enough, as soon as Professor Davis hung up, the way he looked at her became serious, without the previous contempt.
Instead, there was a hint of gravity.
"Stop talking. She is Eve."
"What?"
Joan was shocked, and even the male student who had appeared earlier looked at Eve with disbelief.
Who would have thought that this girl in front of them, who looked chubby and dumb, was really the Eve famous throughout Emerald City high schools, who in her sophomore year was exceptionally recruited by countless top universities in Novaria?
A genius among geniuses.
She remembered how, by chance, she learned that the math problem Eve solved was actually one that Princeton's president had accidentally sent over.
A problem that stumped countless prodigies at Unity College.
And yet this problem was solved by this girl in front of them, who didn't look very smart, using three different methods?
Terrifying. What could be more terrifying than that?
To think, Joan had actually dared to provoke her yesterday?
Joan touched her burning face and suddenly felt a bit embarrassed.
"Stop wasting time. My time is valuable. Tell me, how do you want to compete?" Eve leaned lazily against the desk, raised her eyebrows, and looked impatiently at the group of people across from her.
Not competing but not leaving either, just standing there—what was the point?
"Compete? Who says we won't compete? Let me tell you, not only will we compete, we'll livestream the whole thing." Joan was the first to jump out again, looking smugly at Eve. "I want the whole country to see how this first place you got by cheating is completely fake."
"Livestream?" Eve smiled.
Since the people from Seaside Maritime Institute weren't worried about losing all their school's dignity, she had no objection.
"Fine, but I have one condition."
She, Eve, wasn't some random nobody who had to obey just because someone said to livestream.
"Let's hear it. I'd like to know what conditions a nobody from a small place like you could possibly have."
Joan acted all high and mighty, as if her school was the best university in the country.
And she was the most awesome person in it.
Completely arrogant.
What was that old saying?
Eve thought about it. Right, she remembered.
The more you jump around, the faster you die.
Someone like Joan, if she were in "Game of Thrones," definitely wouldn't survive past the first episode.
Total cannon fodder material.
"Since you don't think I have the ability, let's make a bet."
It had been a while since she'd made a bet, and her palms were really itching.
"A bet?"
Hahahaha!
Joan burst out laughing, and the top students from Seaside Maritime Institute behind her laughed along.
As if what Eve proposed was the most amusing thing ever.
The only thing Eve found strange was that the male student who had first provoked her yesterday wasn't laughing now.
In fact, in those eyes hidden behind thick glasses, there was even a hint of admiration.
What's wrong with him?
Did she hit him stupid?
She looked down at her left hand, feeling a bit guilty.
A perfectly good person, and she'd hit him stupid. That was kind of embarrassing.
"Eve, what do you want to bet?" After Joan finished laughing, she looked at Eve dismissively. "How about this—we'll bet one million. If you win, I'll give you one million. But if you lose, I won't take your money. You just have to crawl around the high school entrance while saying everyone at your school is trash."
Eve shook her head and wagged one plump finger.
"What, you don't even dare bet that? I told you your competition results were fake, and you still won't admit it." The smug expression on Joan's face became even more obvious.
Eve said, "One million is so boring. If we're betting, let's bet big. How about five hundred million? As long as you lose, you give me five hundred million?"
What?
As soon as Eve spoke, everyone was shocked.
Five hundred million was no joke.
Among the students who came this time, probably only Joan, as a rich second-generation kid, had seen five hundred million. The rest probably hadn't even seen five hundred thousand.
"Well? Do you dare bet?"
"Joan, should we?" All the students looked at Joan for help. "This concerns Seaside Maritime Institute's honor. You'll agree, right?"
"What are you thinking? Joan is the young lady of the Wests. A mere five hundred million is nothing to her, right?"
"Exactly. I also believe Joan will definitely agree."
Twenty-some people, one after another, directly elevated Joan's status sky-high.
"Joan, what about this?" Even Professor Davis looked at Joan pleadingly. "Don't worry, we won't lose."
Worried that Joan wouldn't agree, Professor Davis hesitated, then made another promise. "Haven't you always wanted to become student council president? As long as we win this competition, you'll be student council president when we get back."
Joan's eyes lit up. Student council president—that was the position she'd been dreaming of.
She immediately nodded in agreement.
"Fine, Eve, I agree. If we lose, I'll give you five hundred million. But if you lose, not only do you have to fulfill the previous condition, you also have to break both your own hands."
Eve nodded. "Deal."
With the terms settled, Joan quickly set up the livestream equipment.
After one phone call from Professor Davis, countless spectators soon flooded into the livestream.
Even Chase, who was leisurely scrolling through videos at the villa, got the news.
After seeing that the main person involved was actually Eve, he didn't dare delay even a second and immediately notified Sebastian.
