Chapter 38 I Am Eve

Chapter 38 I Am Eve

Eve's single sentence brought the scene to complete silence.

No matter how unhappy Professor Davis was, he didn't dare joke around with SMI's reputation.

He could only glare hatefully at Eve, then drag his people away in embarrassment.

Mission accomplished, Eve clapped her hands in satisfaction and turned to walk into the school.

Just a few steps past the school gate, she spotted Tyler and the dean of students with their heads poking out.

"Eve, they just left like that?" Both of them looked completely confused.

SMI had gone through all that trouble to come here - how could they just leave like that?

"Eve, did you say something to them?" the dean asked quietly. His usually stern face now carried a hint of caution.

As if Eve was some kind of important big shot.

Eve waved her hand dismissively. "I just told them that Emerald City High closes its gates promptly at 10:10 AM every day, and we don't see anyone who comes after that. They saw they were late, so they left obediently."

What?

Huh?

The dean was so shocked he blurted out his hometown dialect.

Tyler awkwardly swallowed. "Eve, since when does our school have that rule?"

"It's not too late to have it now." After dropping that line, she turned toward the dorms. "Wait for the phone call. I'm tired, going back to sleep."

Tyler and the dean looked at each other. Before they could figure out what phone call to expect, their phones started ringing.

Looking at the screen - who else could it be but Professor Davis, the one leading this trip?

They exchanged another glance, both looking in the direction Eve had left.

It seemed they had underestimated Eve once again.

"Hello, this is Tyler!" Whatever the situation, the call had to be answered.

"Hello, I'm Professor Davis, leading the SMI team." The voice on the phone was noticeably better than before.

"Principal Grant, we at SMI had some matters that delayed us today. We're terribly sorry to have kept you waiting."

Professor Davis had returned to their temporary hotel with his team and immediately complained to SMI's president about what happened today.

The result was a thorough scolding, with orders that they must apologize to Emerald City High.

If they didn't handle this properly, they shouldn't bother coming back.

"Professor Davis, you're too kind." Tyler stroked the sparse whiskers on his chin, unable to hide the smugness in his voice.

"Principal Grant, would it be possible for us to come over tomorrow at the scheduled time for normal exchanges?"

Professor Davis asked carefully, as if worried about upsetting Tyler. He quickly added, "Rest assured, we'll arrive at your school gates promptly at 9 AM."

Having gained both dignity and advantage, Tyler wasn't one to push too hard. After thinking for a few seconds, he nodded in agreement.

"Fine. I hope you won't have things delaying you again this time."

Cough, cough, cough!

Professor Davis coughed awkwardly and hung up with some pleasantries.

"Damn it, a third-rate broken high school dares to make SMI bow down?" Joan was instantly unhappy, clenching his fists and secretly deciding that tomorrow's exchange, he'd definitely show Eve what's what.

Let them know the gap between them and SMI. Just because she got one math problem right doesn't mean she's all that.

"Everyone listen up."

Professor Davis's expression was equally sour. "What happened today was SMI's fault, and we had no choice but to apologize, but..."

His cold gaze swept over the group. "But once the exchange officially starts, we can completely crush them. Even if Tyler has complaints, he'll just have to admit his people aren't as good and deal with it. Understand?"

A group of genius teenagers who'd always been praised were fired up by Professor Davis's words, each one ready to teach Eve and EC High a good lesson.

The next day, SMI didn't dare be even a minute late. At 9 AM sharp, Professor Davis had already arrived at EC High's gates with his team.

As the host, EC High wasn't petty either - the cheerleading squad and banners prepared in advance were all neatly arranged.

However, Tyler was missing from the crowd. Instead, Eve stood in the center, with the dean of students beside her.

"You?"

When enemies meet, eyes blaze with fury. Joan hadn't forgotten that Eve had slapped him yesterday.

Seeing Eve again now, the hatred in his eyes was almost overflowing.

Not seeing Tyler, Professor Davis was also angry, but given yesterday's events, he chose to hold back for now. He smiled politely at the dean.

Just as he was about to exchange pleasantries, a familiar voice reached his ears.

"Since the SMI people are here, everyone can go now. Back to class." Eve said coldly.

Everyone exchanged glances, then turned in unison and headed toward the academic building.

Soon, the scene fell silent once again.

Professor Davis's expression darkened further. Just as he was about to question Eve.

He saw Eve turn sideways, pointing toward the academic building. "Professor Davis, this way please."

Frustrating. Damn frustrating.

The great SMI, coming to a place for academic exchange, only to be greeted and led by a fat, stupid female student.

What a humiliation.

She led them into the large conference room next to the academic building.

"Professor Davis, please."

Eve sat in the main seat, lazily waving her hand. "No need to pretend. You just want to crush Emerald City High, right? You can start now."

What?

Eve's refusal to play by the rules left Professor Davis momentarily speechless.

"You're really out of line, student." Joan, who'd been holding in his anger, was the first to stand up, pointing at Eve and shouting, "We came to exchange ideas with that Eve who got lucky and won first place in the math competition. Call her out."

"Did you step in it?"

"What? Step in what?" Joan was confused.

"If you didn't step in dog shit, why do you smell so bad?"

Eve made a show of fanning the air, as if there really was a bad smell.

"Damn it, you..." Joan was about to continue when he met Eve's suddenly narrowed eyes and immediately shut up.

Eve sneered. With that level of mental fortitude, he dared to challenge her? Really didn't know what was good for him.

She brushed off non-existent dust from her clothes, raised her head, and looked at Professor Davis across from her. "I'm Eve. However you want to 'exchange ideas,' let's start. I'm in a hurry."
