Chapter 37: One Man Fights Twenty
"Everyone get ready..." Tyler shouted.
"Go back, everyone go back." Not giving Tyler a chance to finish, Eve cut in first, "Everyone take your stuff and go back to class now."
If they clearly looked down on Emerald City High School, then there was no need to waste time and energy on them.
Tyler was about to say something more, but meeting Eve's sharp gaze, he could only helplessly shut his mouth.
"You too, go back."
Just shutting up was enough?
Not for Eve, apparently.
Waving her hand dismissively, Eve looked at Tyler with obvious irritation, "Since I'm the main person for this exchange, having me here is enough."
Looking at Eve standing alone at the school gate, Tyler surprisingly found himself thinking that what she said actually made a lot of sense.
Nodding, he obediently returned to his office, took out his finest tea leaves, and leisurely sipped away.
As for what would happen at the school gate, he believed Eve definitely wouldn't disappoint him.
"Principal, that's SMI. Are we really okay doing this?"
The Academic Affairs Director, sporting an even rounder bald spot than the principal himself, walked in and looked toward the gate with deep concern.
"What's there to worry about? Don't forget, she's Eve." The moment these words left his mouth, Tyler himself was stunned.
Since when had he started trusting Eve's abilities like this?
"They're facing off! Eve and those SMI people are facing off." The Academic Director's voice came through, somewhere between excited and worried.
Tyler instantly put down his teacup and, just like the Academic Director, pressed himself against the window, eyes wide open, staring toward the main gate.
The Academic Director glanced at him and pursed his lips. Says the toughest words, but deep down just as uncertain, aren't you?
"Has Emerald City High run out of people? They actually sent out a fat, stupid girl?"
The SMI team, who had deliberately arrived an hour late to intimidate Emerald City High, had just reached the gate expecting to see a welcoming party.
Instead, there was nothing. No crowd, no flowers, not even a simple welcome banner. Just one seemingly fat and stupid woman standing at the gate.
And this one person had her head down trimming her nails, not even glancing at them once.
As if they really were completely insignificant.
"Which dog is barking?"
Only after finishing the last nail did Eve lazily look up at the group of people across from her.
She estimated there were at least twenty people.
She sneered mockingly. SMI really was shameless enough.
Not only challenging a high school student, but actually sending a team of at least twenty people.
Really taking shamelessness to the extreme.
"Who the fuck are you calling a dog?"
A man wearing thick black-framed glasses jumped out, glaring at Eve with displeasure.
"Whoever responds is one." Eve was completely unfazed, her eyes occasionally showing a look like she was watching an idiot as she stared at the guy across from her.
"You, you fucking..."
The guy was probably someone who received tons of attention at his school, a darling in every teacher's eyes. When had he ever been humiliated to his face like this? He was instantly furious.
Opening his mouth, he was about to thoroughly greet Eve's ancestors who had been resting underground for ages.
Smack!
A loud slap rang out. All the curse words at the edge of the guy's mouth were swallowed back. His body tilted, and he fell flat on the ground.
"Really stinks. Did you eat fermented herring or something?"
Eve shook her hand in disgust.
Eve's speed was too fast. By the time the SMI students reacted, the first troublemaker was already on the ground.
Especially hearing Eve's arrogant words, they all became furious.
"Emerald City High really doesn't know what's good for them. We're geniuses from SMI, and you didn't even line up to welcome us."
A female student with a ponytail looked at Eve contemptuously, her eyes full of undisguised disdain. "What's the meaning of having trash like you standing at the gate?"
Eve shook her wrist a few more times. Feeling the smell had dissipated quite a bit, she was satisfied and withdrew her hand, then looked up at the girl who had spoken.
"These days, trash really doesn't get cleaned up anymore, just comes out to meet people."
"What? Who are you calling trash?" The girl shrieked, glaring viciously at Eve.
"I'm saying everyone here is trash." Eve smiled coldly. "What, got a problem with that?"
"Damn it!" The girl screamed.
"Joan West! Get back here." A deep male voice came through.
Eve had already noticed that hidden in the middle of the opposing team was a teacher with the signature bald spot.
He deliberately didn't stand at the front, planning to let those troublemakers intimidate EC High first.
Then, even if EC High wanted to hold them accountable, he just needed to step forward and pretend to scold the students a few times, and the matter could be treated as if it never happened.
At that point, whether EC High liked it or not, they'd just have to swallow their anger.
Now, because Eve didn't play by the rules, his entire plan had fallen apart, and he had no choice but to step forward.
"Hello, student. I'm the teacher leading this team. You can call me Professor Davis."
Davis?
Eve narrowed her eyes. Every time she heard that name, her teeth hurt.
She'd better not find out that this so-called Professor Davis had any connection to Zack's Davis family.
Otherwise, she wouldn't mind paying the Davis family a visit.
It just so happened she still hadn't figured out where to get that five hundred million she promised Blake Wolfe.
"Professor Davis?"
Eve smiled. "Sorry, we have a rule. The school gate closes promptly at ten-ten, and it can't be opened for anyone who arrives after that."
Professor Davis was dumbfounded.
What kind of bullshit school had rules like that?
"What time is it?" he quietly asked a student beside him.
"Professor Davis, it's exactly ten-ten right now." Joan huffed angrily. "She did it on purpose. How else could it be such a coincidence?"
Being targeted like this, Professor Davis's face turned completely dark. "Student, we're from SMI here for an exchange. Isn't what you're doing a bit inappropriate?"
"Shh—can't go around talking nonsense."
Under a crowd of angry stares, everyone watched as Eve raised one finger and gently wagged it.
"SMI is a prestigious university in the country. How could they possibly not be punctual? Even if you wanted to impersonate someone, you shouldn't impersonate SMI. If outsiders found out about this, they'd think SMI deliberately wasn't punctual. That would be embarrassing for SMI!"
