Chapter 68: Stay Overnight at the Brown Villa Tonight, Got It?
Amelia held back the sadness in her heart.
So much had happened over these seven years.
She could pick things up, and she could let them go.
They had truly loved each other once. She didn't regret what she had done back then, but now that the love was gone, she wouldn't give anything more to him.
Not her efforts, her body, or her heart.
Not wanting to say more, Amelia lifted her foot to walk into the villa.
But William grabbed her hand.
"Amelia." He called her name again.
"I told you, no one can replace you," William said. "Isabella only has six months left. After six months, we can still be fine."
"You don't need to make a fuss. After six months, everything will get back on track."
His voice came from behind her.
It made Amelia want to laugh.
Her attitude was already so clear, yet he still thought she was making a fuss?
Why would she make a fuss?
For him?
She was never his wife—she was Amelia.
She had stayed by his side before simply because of love.
And now, she was being Amelia again, also because of love.
Except back then she loved William, and now she loved herself.
She had already given him chances.
She had confirmed again and again, but from his mouth, she got one heartbreaking answer after another.
She had been hurt too much in this life and didn't want to be hurt anymore.
The William who once held half a piece of wood to protect her might have died long ago on that rainy night.
What remained before her now was a William who only had Isabella in his heart.
She didn't want this unrecognizable William.
"Let go!" she said.
But his large hand gripping her wrist wouldn't loosen at all.
"Amelia." William's voice came from behind. "What exactly do you want?"
To get Jasper's old connections, to find out the truth about Jasper's death back then, to advance her career, to make the people around her who were truly worth loving live well, to shake him off and live her own life!
These words almost slipped out.
But in the end, she held back.
They were still in the cooling-off period. She wanted a smooth divorce, so she couldn't say too much for now.
So, out of a thousand words, she only said one sentence: "William, my business has nothing to do with you."
This sentence completely enraged him.
The night wind blew past, bringing the unfamiliar scent of her perfume.
Just like her at this moment, making him feel somewhat strange.
"Nothing to do with me?" He chewed on her words. "Amelia, you're still my wife. You think all this has nothing to do with me?"
Amelia sneered: "So you still remember I'm your wife."
"Let go!" Amelia said, trying to forcefully shake off William's hand gripping hers.
Their arguing grew louder and louder.
Finally, an elderly voice stopped them.
"Enough!"
Finn, who had been waiting for them in the villa, was now being wheeled out.
His face looked very displeased.
"William, what are you doing!" Finn scolded.
William's lips pressed tightly together, his cold eyes locked on Amelia.
"William!" Finn's scolding came again.
Only then did William look away, lowering his eyes slightly.
"Grandpa," he called out, but still wouldn't let go of Amelia's hand.
Finn glared hard at William.
Cleo had already walked over, holding Amelia's hand and saying with concern: "Poor child, you've gotten so thin."
"It's all William's fault!" Finn raised his cane to hit William.
William didn't dodge, just stood there straight.
A breeze blew from the lake, slightly cold.
Amelia instinctively shrank back.
William frowned slightly and looked at her again.
She was afraid of the cold?
For some reason, he had a strange feeling in his heart.
As if something had happened that he didn't know about.
"I could hear you arguing from far away!" Finn angrily swung his cane at William.
"William, look at all the terrible things you've done these days, and you still have the nerve to argue with Amelia here!"
"I really don't know how I ended up with a grandson like you!"
"It's only because your parents are abroad and my health isn't good, otherwise you'd see how we'd deal with you!"
Finn beat him until he was out of breath. His health had never been good—a year ago they even needed Amelia and William's marriage for good luck. Now he looked even worse.
"All you know is to run after a mistress. You've completely disgraced the Brown family!"
"Do you still remember the vow you made when you brought Amelia back and knelt before me!"
"Doing these things now, don't you feel guilty at all?"
Finn ended up choking and coughing.
"Grandpa!"
William and Amelia both rushed forward, but Finn pushed William away.
Amelia reached out to pat Finn's back, trying to help him feel better.
She could still feel who treated her well.
She didn't want to deal with William anymore, but she didn't want anything to happen to Finn either.
Finn was still coughing.
William immediately called the family doctor.
They went into the villa. The family doctor rushed over and stabilized Finn.
Finally, he advised: "Although Mr. Brown's condition has improved a lot this year and small upsets won't be dangerous, you shouldn't upset him too much."
After everyone settled Finn back in his room, Cleo brought them out.
Cleo's face didn't look good either.
"William, can't you just break it off with that Isabella?"
William lowered his head, silent.
Cleo showed a disappointed expression.
"Fine, you're grown up now," she said. "Now the entire Brown Group is in your hands. Everyone says you've led the Brown Group to firmly surpass the Adams Group and the Jenkins Group through your own ability. Very capable."
"Of course we can't control you anymore."
"But before you do many things, can you think more about Amelia?"
"Amelia is your wife. You said you loved her, you said you wanted to marry her."
"Don't you know how terrible the things people are saying outside are? Won't you think about Amelia?"
William still kept his head down, lips pressed tight.
Seeing him stay silent, Cleo was even more disappointed. Finally, she left them with one sentence: "I was planning to go to the restaurant with you, but now you go by yourselves."
She held Amelia's hand tightly, full of disappointment toward William.
But Finn had already beaten and scolded him—there really wasn't much else they could do now.
"Don't leave yet. Your grandpa still has something to tell you both later."
After a slight pause, she stared at William and said: "Stay overnight at the Brown Villa tonight, understand!"
