Chapter 69: I Heard the Person He Lost to Was You, Amelia
Cleo went to the room to take care of Finn.
Amelia and William headed toward the restaurant together.
This time, Amelia came to explain the child situation to Finn.
After all, she was still nominally William's wife, legally too, so the sudden appearance of a child needed to be explained clearly.
It's just that she hadn't had the chance to say anything yet...
And right now Finn didn't have the energy to listen to her either.
She'd wait for now. When Finn recovered a bit later and came looking for them, she could speak up then.
The shuttle cart drove all the way toward the restaurant.
Amelia and William sat side by side, but with a large gap between them.
No one spoke. The air was silent, with only the lake surface reflecting the cold moonlight.
The Brown Villa consisted of several houses. Finn, William's father's generation, and William's generation all had their own residences here.
Finn's house was the main one. Usually, if it was just family having a meal, they'd eat at their own villa, but if multiple family members were dining together or entertaining guests, they'd choose the restaurant in the middle of the lake.
This meal would be at that restaurant on the water.
Knowing that William and Amelia were both back, plus the news online about Amelia's child, quite a few people were interested this time.
After all, if William really had an heir, whether the Brown family's business structure would change was still unknown.
The shuttle cart stopped. William got out, then reached out his hand to help Amelia.
Amelia glanced at that outstretched palm and ignored it, getting out and standing on her own.
Ezra drove the cart to park it to the side. Amelia followed beside William and walked into this three-story postmodern building.
The entire first-floor hall was brightly lit, with food, champagne, and desserts arranged tastefully. In the center of the restaurant, there was a sunken water feature, and amid clusters of flowers, a harpist was playing, creating an elegant beauty.
As soon as the two entered, they attracted everyone's attention.
"William!"
First to approach was a woman about 25 years old wearing a yellow rose-colored dress. She jogged over and stopped in front of them.
She nodded at Amelia, then smiled and said to William: "Long time no see, William!"
When the woman smiled, she had a pair of deep dimples on her face, making her look very cute.
This was William's cousin, Felicity.
She had just returned from studying at a prestigious school abroad.
"Long time no see." William nodded.
A waiter nearby brought over drinks.
Amelia took a glass of champagne, nodded in greeting, then let the two of them chat while she went to find a place to eat something and wait for Finn to rest up.
But before she'd taken two steps, Felicity suddenly called out to her: "Amelia."
Before Amelia could respond, William frowned slightly and corrected her: "It's sister-in-law."
Amelia didn't care about such things, since she wouldn't be for much longer anyway.
"Sorry, sister-in-law." Felicity immediately corrected herself, saying, "I just remembered something."
Amelia found it strange. Felicity had been studying abroad, and even before going abroad, she was proud and had never bothered with her. Now she suddenly had something to discuss with her?
"What is it?" Amelia stopped and asked.
"It's like this." Felicity glanced at William, then said with a smile, "At our school, there's been a legend going around."
"A certain company in Seraphim has held some advanced technology for many years, with core barriers that were globally unique. A few years ago, the Brown Group broke through this technology barrier in one fell swoop. Now the landscape is split in two, with our Brown Group and that company each dominating half the market domestically and internationally."
"I heard that back then, William personally led people and brought the technology to Seraphim to negotiate and secured the cooperation contract."
"But..."
Felicity looked at William with admiration in her eyes, but when she turned to Amelia, her eyes held a strange gleam.
"Amelia, do you know? What circulates most at our school is actually another piece of gossip."
Felicity took a step toward Amelia and said: "There's a rumor that the current head of that company, Alvin Jordan, is a playboy who agreed and then backed out, toying with countless partners, but the contract he gave to the Brown Group was real. I heard it was because he made a bet with someone and lost."
"I heard the person he lost to was you, Amelia."
William frowned slightly and walked in front of Amelia.
"Felicity." William spoke coldly.
"William, I'm just chatting about gossip." Felicity said with a smile, "You know when I was in Seraphim, so many people asked me about this. Today I finally get to see Amelia, so what's wrong with asking?"
After speaking, she looked at Amelia and said with a smile: "Don't you think so, Amelia?"
"Our Brown Group clearly developed the technology first, then brought it to negotiate with the Jordan Group. How did it end up becoming gossip? Tell me, aren't my classmates pretty stupid?"
"Especially that Alvin. Although he's handsome, his personality is scary. That was in Seraphim, and in his early playboy days, he really did see blood. How could he sign a contract just because he lost a bet?"
"Later there were rumors saying that after he lost that bet, he completely changed his personality, eventually becoming the dark horse in the family power struggle, transforming into the current head of the Jordan Group."
Felicity spoke lightly, but her eyes kept watching Amelia.
She just stood there, quietly watching Amelia with her eyes slightly lowered.
"Alright, since you know it's just gossip, why talk so much about it, right William?" Perhaps seeing them standing there for a while, someone walked over.
Finn had three sons and two daughters.
William's father was the second son, and Felicity's father was the third son.
The person who came was from the eldest son's family, born a bit later than William—Indigo.
Indigo smiled and nodded at William and Amelia, raising his champagne glass for a sip: "William, Amelia."
It seemed like he was speaking up for Amelia, but his words were full of traps.
If you followed along with what he said, you'd be confirming the accusation of stealing the Brown family's glory.
"What business is it of yours that I'm talking to William?" Felicity rolled her eyes.
She and Indigo had never gotten along, but her relationship with William was actually good.
She just looked down on Amelia, that's all.
She hated women who only knew how to cling to William. But she believed that since William liked Amelia, that was his choice. No matter how much she looked down on Amelia, at most she'd just ignore her.
In fact, whenever she was in front of William, she was fairly friendly to Amelia. This was her pride as a member of the Brown family.
These rumors had actually been circulating in Seraphim and at her school for a long time. People always loved gossip, and there was plenty of it. She'd never cared before, until that incident happened.
Anyway, she now found Amelia, who had stolen the Brown family's glory, very annoying.
"William, just let Amelia tell me." Felicity said to William in a wheedling tone.
Then she looked at Amelia again: "Amelia, have you heard? Alvin is coming to Shadow City soon."
