Chapter 158 158
"Of course you're more than enough, Mommy. But I just want to meet my Daddy. I want to know if he's cool, what he looks like, and I want to hug him," she mumbled and hugged me. I felt her breathing get heavier until she finally fell asleep on my chest.
I looked at Ivana. She just sighed and shrugged. I just caressed my daughter's hair and kissed the top of her head. I couldn't blame her; there are probably times when she feels jealous of her classmates who have a dad. Every time I go to their school for programs, I see her looking at them... I'm sad that I couldn't give her the complete family she wants, but there's nothing I can do about it.
I want to give my daughter everything she needs because it's my duty as her parent. Ivana also told me why I don't just find a boyfriend who can also be a dad to Vanna, but I don't need that. I can be a dad to Vanna. I also don't want to find a boyfriend just so Vanna can have a dad. I'm not that cruel.
"Vanna, you promised me that you'll be a good girl now, right?" I asked while putting her snacks in her bag.
Vanna smiled sweetly at me and nodded. She kissed my cheek and my lips. I just smiled and fixed her pigtails before I took her bag. We went out of the house and I guided her into the school bus.
"Mommy, I'll really be a good girl now, just a little. Bye-bye! I love you!" my daughter said before she finally got inside.
"I love you more, baby!" I just said and waved until the school bus left.
After I finished everything I needed to take care of at home, I got ready to go to work. I just wore a simple corporate attire and went in my car. My brother, Clyde, bought a car for me two years ago. To be honest, I didn't know how to drive, but I studied and got a driver's license so that Clyde wouldn't be sad that I wasn't using it.
"Good morning, Ms. North."
"Good morning," I greeted them back.
There are times that I remember how I used to work before. I'm proud to say that I'm no longer a weak-willed woman when it comes to work. I gained confidence and I worked hard, more than before... for my daughter. As her mother, there's nothing I can't do for her... That's how much I love her.
The whole day passed by; I was busy as hell, as usual. The company will be releasing a new product, so we're even busier this week. That's why I also can't watch over Havannah much all the time. I'll just make it up to her once we finish this project.
"Mommy! Mommy!"
I smiled when my daughter was the first person I saw when I got home. I gave her a warm hug and carried her. She just giggled when I rained kisses all over her face. She kissed me too and hugged me tighter.
"What does my baby want to eat for our dinner? Hmm?" I asked and fixed her bangs.
"Hmm, I want hotdog, Mommy!" she said excitedly.
"No, baby... You have to eat healthy food too," I just said and pinched her nose.
I just smiled and shook my head. I find it weird that she even inherited that from her father. I remember back then when Luca's fridge was always full of hotdogs.
I just shook my head and cooked for Vanna. I helped her with her homeworks after that before I finally finished all my tasks. I read a book for her so she could fall asleep. Vanna loves reading books too, just like me. At least she inherited something from me.
When Vanna fell asleep, I just hung out on the veranda while drinking coffee. I took out my laptop and just finished some of my paper works there. My time for rest is short, but it's fine... I can't just rely on my siblings. I have to work for my own too.
"Hello!"
I was stunned and stood up when I noticed someone knocking on our gate. I immediately went there.
"Who are you?" I asked; I didn't open the gate yet. It's risky; it might be just anyone.
"Crescent, is that you? It's me, Aiden... Aiden Donello."
My eyes widened when I heard his name. I immediately opened the gate and let him in. I was so surprised when I saw that it was really Aiden in front of me. I covered my mouth and blinked... Six years have passed since I last saw him.
"So... how are you?" he asked and smiled at me.
"Oh, please, come in," I said and opened the gate wider.
"Thank you," he said and went inside.
I immediately guided him to the veranda and had him sit down. "Do you want something to drink? Coffee? Juice? or water?" I asked.
He shook his head and tapped the chair beside him. "I just want to talk to you... I also want to ask how you're doing. It's been 6 years, right?" he asked.
I just smiled and sat beside him. I just nodded at his question.
"How did you know I was here?" I asked and looked at him.
"Well, Ivana told me," he said and shyly scratched the back of his neck. "How are you, Crescent? How's your child?" he asked again.
I smiled. "My child and I are doing fine," I just said briefly. I also didn't know what to say. "Um, what about you? How are you?"
"Well, I'm doing fine too... We're doing a medical mission here in Batangas. Well, I'm not working as a doctor anymore. I'm now working as a nurse," he said and looked at the sky.
"R-Really? Why?"
"Well, I resigned six years ago... I'm no longer worthy to be a doctor. Remember when I told you that you lost your baby? I did that on purpose, for my own gain... I resigned right after that; I didn't work as a doctor again," he explained.
I was stunned and silent for a moment before I spoke. "Well, to be honest, I hated you for doing that. You were so reckless... But well, thank you also because you did that. I was able to get away from Luca... I'm happy now with my child. I'm okay with just the two of us. I would have just gotten hurt if I stayed with Luca."
"I didn't do that for you though."
I was stunned by what Aiden said. I looked at him. "Huh?"
Aiden looked at me and smiled faintly. "I did that for myself, Crescent."
"Huh? W-What do you mean by--"
"Daddy?!"
Both Aiden and I were stunned and turned around when we heard Havannah's voice. We both stood up because of the shock. Vanna just smiled sweetly at me and ran towards Aiden. Aiden just blinked when Vanna suddenly hugged him.
"Daddy! I know you're my Daddy! Mommy probably just hid me from you, right? Yay! You found us, Daddy!" Havannah said, so happy, and even jumped up and down.
"Um, s-sorry, little kid, but I'm not your--" Aiden's words were cut off.
"Don't be shy, Daddy! OMG! My Daddy is so handsome!
Mommy, you're so secretive; you kept Daddy a secret from me!" Vanna said excitedly and hugged Aiden again.
"B-Baby, he's not your Daddy." I approached them and was about to get Vanna, but she tightened her hug on Aiden. "My goodness, Vanna." I massaged my temples. I looked and smiled at Aiden apologetically. "I-I'm sorry, Aiden. She just got too excited. It's the first time she's seen me with another man besides her uncles," I apologized.
"Yay! I have a Daddy now! My Daddy!" Vanna said, still so happy.
"Havannah, that's enough. I told you, he's not your dad--"
Aiden held my wrist as if he was stopping me from what I was about to say. He looked at me and smiled. He gently caressed Vanna's hair. "It's fine."
I blinked and tilted my head. "I-It's not fine," I mumbled.
But I couldn't do anything when Vanna immediately asked Aiden to carry her. I just blinked when they just went inside as if they had forgotten about me. I just shook my head and followed them inside. They went to the living room and sat there. I just sat beside them too.
"Vanna, I told you that he's not your Daddy. It's embarrassing for Aiden," I just said and sighed.
"Mommy, you're just fooling me again. The first time I saw him, I already knew he was my Daddy," Vanna said and looked at Aiden.
Aiden looked at me and touched my hand. "It's fine... I'm more than willing to be her Daddy, Crescent."
