Chapter 13: You can't relate

Chapter 13: You can't relate
“Amelia there's no way in hell we're letting that marriage happen,” Shawna said, pacing back and forth in the room while I sat on the bed.

“Zane didn't even mention it to me,” I was disappointed. “He told me he wasn't going to get married to her, so how did this happen? The marriage is happening in two days so there's no way he doesn't know about it.”

Shawna stopped walking and came to where I was, sitting beside me on the bed.
“I trust Zane, I know you do too. You'd be shocked to find out he might not even know about this,” she clipped my hair behind my ears to have a clear view of my face.
“Amy, I know what we have to do.”

I turned to see a mischievous smile spreading across her face and I asked “What are we going to do?”

Shawna’s eyes lit up the moment she heard my question. “We're going to ruin her wedding dress.”

Zane's Pov

I should be focusing on the mission, strategizing every move to ensure success. But I can’t, my mind refuses to cooperate, it's been completely consumed by her.

The way she teases me so playfully and effortlessly drives me insane. And her voice, that velvety, sultry tone, melts through my defenses every time she speaks. I could listen to her forever, drowning in the sound of her laughter, and still crave more of her.

Then there’s her smile, radiant, breathtaking, the most beautiful thing I've ever set my eyes on. And her kiss… God, her kiss. Soft, tender and intoxicating like an addictive dangerous drug that sucks you into a whirlwind of sweetness. Kissing her feels like stepping into a dream, one I’d sell my soul never to wake from.

She isn’t just a part of my life. She is my entire world, my heaven, my paradise. Without her, everything would collapse into emptiness, a cold and endless void. I love her way more than she could ever know, my Amelia.

“We're literally trying to work here so our plans go smoothly and you're over there daydreaming and smiling sheepishly,” Elias' voice woke me up from my daydream.

“My wife is the best thing that has ever happened to me,” I said, still smiling, completely ignoring everything Elias said.
“Too bad you can't relate,” I added, patting him on his shoulder.

Elias wasn't fazed, “You do know I have a girlfriend right?”

“Elias, having a girlfriend is not the same as having a wife, trust me on this little brother.” Elias almost choked on his own spit the moment he heard the last two words that came out of my mouth.

“Little brother?” He growled.

“You know since you so much love calling me that, I figured it was only fair to return the favor,” I said, giving him a menacing smile.

“You're unbelievable,” he rolled his eyes at me. “It doesn't even work like that.”

“I don't care,” I put my hands in my suit pocket and walked past him towards where our men were setting up the things we needed for the mission tomorrow.

It looked like everything was going smoothly.
“Luke, are you ready?” I asked just to be sure.
“Yes boss!” he answered firmly.
“Tomorrow is going to be a really crazy day, but don't think about it too much, we've got your back,” I said, patting his shoulders to reassure him.

Elias walked up to me and pulled me to the side, so it was just the two of us. From the look on his face, I could tell something was bothering him.

“Is this about the little brother thingy?” I asked just to tease him but he wasn't having it.

“I know it's my plan and I know you have faith in me, but still, what if it doesn't work? What if it doesn't go the way we want? We're risking a person's life by sending him in there,” Elias explained.

“Damian is a dimwit, he's going to buy Luke's explanation in a split second, he's not smart enough to clock it,” I had known Damian and his tactics for the longest time so I kind of have an idea about the kind of person he is.
A “ding” echoed in the air as a notification came into my phone, lighting up my phone screen. It was a message, from my mother, she sent an attachment.

I clicked it open, and the moment my eyes landed on the image, I felt a deadly rage slowly start building up inside. It was a wedding card. With my name on it as well as Isla’s.

But what sent my fury over the edge was the date.

The wedding was in two days.

A sharp, burning anger ran through my veins as I clenched my jaw, my grip tightening around the phone. This wasn’t just a joke or a misunderstanding. My mother had planned this, she dared to set a date, print the invitations, and make it official without my damn consent.

I wanted to just leave everything and head over to my mother's house to have a word with her but this mission was too important, I had to be here.

Puzzled, Elias asked “Zane what's going on with you? Where did this anger suddenly come from? Does it have something to do with Amelia, Is she okay?”

I passed the phone to him, showing him the picture.
“Oh!” he exclaimed. “From the look on your face, I can tell you didn't know about this marriage either.”

“Of course not, I would never have let this happen.”

“So what are you going to do now?” Elias questioned.

“I promised Amelia that this wasn't going to happen, I told her she didn't have to worry about it and that I would make sure it never happens, but I failed her,” I was disappointed in myself, if Amelia could get her hands on this wedding card she would feel betrayed by me, she would see me as someone that wasn't trustworthy.

“Hey, hey, hey, hold on, take a chill pill, you haven't failed anyone, the marriage hasn't happened yet so we can still fix this,” Elias said with a serious expression on his face.

“Firstly, you need to remind your mother exactly who you are. You need to make her see that you're not someone to be messed with because I think right now, people are starting to forget. You are the formidable and ruthless Zane Blackwood and that is exactly how you will be perceived by everyone not excluding your family,” Elias' voice was firm, brimming with confidence.
“And that marriage, it's not happening.”
