Chapter 14: Understood, Boss.

Chapter 14: Understood, Boss.
Amelia's Pov

I heard footsteps going down the stairs and immediately knew it was her since she was the only one in the house with us.
“Shawna I think she just left, we'll wait for a few minutes and if she doesn't come back we'll proceed with our plan.”

We had come to the conclusion that we were going to set her dress on fire, but we wouldn't be ruining it completely, we'd just ruin it enough to make it ugly and unwearable, and then we'd keep it back in the box it came in. What could be worse than a bride finding out on her wedding day that her dress had been ruined.

Shawna's voice cut through the silence, “Let's go! And take your shoes off, we have to move stealthily without making any sound and leave there just as quickly as we came in.”

“Understood, boss,” I said jokingly.

We quietly opened the door and gently tiptoed down the hallway towards her room and luckily for us, it was open when we got there.

Shawna entered first and gestured for me to come in with her.

I pointed at the box carefully placed on her dressing table, “ Shawna that's the dress,”

“Here,” Shawna said, handing me the lighter. She opened the box and brought out the dress.

“Wow!” She exclaimed. “This is one hell of a wedding dress, it must have cost a fortune.”

“It will make it hurt ten times more when she finds it ruined,” I sneered.

I took the dress from Shawna and flicked the lighter on, placing it at the bottom of the dress. The fire was small at first and it kept growing bigger and bigger and bigger.

I immediately started panicking. “Shawna” I called out her name not knowing what else to do, “Shawna the fire’s growing bigger, we're not supposed to burn the whole dre…..”
I had barely completed my sentence when Shawna dragged the dress from my hand and sped towards the bathroom, accidentally kicking down the small waste bin at the bathroom door. For some reason, instead of going towards the bathroom sink, she decided to deep the dress in the toilet to quench the fire automatically making the dress drenched in toilet water.

“Girl!!!” Shawna's actions took me by surprise. “Like setting the dress on fire wasn't enough," I said laughing, which also triggered Shawna's laughter.

“She deserves it.”

We both made our way out of the bathroom and Shawna kept the dress back in the box. We put everything in place so it wouldn't look like anybody had been in the room and we were about to leave the room when I remembered the waste bin Shawna had kicked down, we had not kept it back in its right position.

“I'll be back in a second, there's something we forgot,” I said, walking towards the bathroom.

“I don't think we forgot anything.”
Shawna was still standing at the door, waiting. She hadn’t come back in with me, I was supposed to just pick up the waste bin and leave.

But then I saw them.

The bin had already fallen minutes ago with its contents spilling across the floor but I didn't think much of it. But now, as my eyes locked onto the scattered test strips, a wave of unease coiled in my stomach.

One or two might be nothing. But this many? What was even more strange was the fact that they had all been used and every one of them came out negative.

My heart started racing and a lump formed in my throat. I couldn’t look at this alone.

“Shawna,” I called, my voice barely steady. “You need to see this.”

She hesitated for a second before stepping back inside. I was still squatting beside the mess when she approached so I shifted to the side to give her a clearer view.

The moment she saw them, she sucked in a sharp breath. “Are those?” She asked, her voice laced with disbelief. “Are those Pregnancy test strips?”

I exhaled slowly, standing up, my hands pressing against my waist as if to steady myself. “I just needed you to see it,” I said. “To make sure my mind wasn’t playing tricks on me.”

A heavy silence hung between us. The sight of all those strips, it didn’t make sense.

“She’s already pregnant,” I said, my thoughts racing. “She showed Zane the results. She even did a DNA test.” My voice dipped lower, uncertainty creeping in. “So what the hell is she doing with this many test strips?”

“We have to confront her,” Shawna demanded.

“Shawna, that's a bad idea, she's not going to admit anything to us.”

“Then we're just going to take a few of the test strips so we can show it to Zane, he'll know what to do.”

“Alright,” I was about to bend down to pick up the test strips when I heard voices and footsteps coming towards the room. I turned to Isla and her gaze immediately met mine as our eyes widened in shock.

“She's coming back, and it seems she's with someone,” Shawna whispered.

As much as I enjoyed ruining her dress, getting caught wasn't something I was looking forward to.
“Shawna let's go!”

I ran towards the door and was about to twist it open when Shawna pulled me backwards.

“They're already too close, there's no way we'll be able to leave the room without getting caught, we have to hide.”
She scanned the room looking for a good spot where we could hide and in a split second she went into the bathroom with my hand still in hers.

“Let's hide in the bathtub, behind the shower curtains, she won't be able to see us even if she comes into the bathroom.”

Shawna immediately jumped into the bathtub and I followed behind her as she pulled the curtains, completely concealing our presence.

We heard Isla’s room door open, followed by her voice.
“Are you sure the wedding is still going to happen? It's in two days and we haven't made any preparations, I doubt he's even written his vows down. Matilda, can't we push the date forward a bit?”

“Matilda?” I whispered.

“It's Zane's mother,” Shawna replied, and she pulled her index finger across her lips, indicating for me to stay quiet.

Matilda's voice followed Isla's. “Your presence in this house is like a ticking time bomb, he hasn't thrown you out or gotten rid of you because Amelia asked him not to. If he wakes up on the wrong side of the bed he might just decide to get rid of you for good, completely jeopardizing our plans and we can't afford to let that happen. So we're going to make sure the marriage happens as soon as possible.”

“Alright, but we have to go to the venue and make sure everything is in place. We'll be on our way in a couple minutes, I just need to take a quick shower.”

Did she just say she wanted to take a quick shower? I couldn't help but panic, what are we going to do? What excuse are we going to give? How can we possibly lie our way out of this?

I was barely able to pr
ocess my thoughts before I heard the door knob twisting and opening.

We're so screwed.
