Chapter 12: You like my dress?
Chapter 12: You like my dress?
“Zane you said you destroyed the marriage certificate, how come he just showed it to us?” Elias was puzzled, just like everyone else.
From the look on Zane's face I could tell he wasn't having it. “I destroyed it, I set it ablaze, whatever certificate is with him right now is a fake, it's forged,”
“Then all we have to do is prove it, and we need to do it fast. I have our top Investors blowing up my phone right now threatening to pull out. He has accused you of abduction and attempted murder, nobody wants to associate with anybody or an organisation with such a reputation. So we have to counter, we have to give the public something to win back their trust” Elias explained.
“And how are we going to that? How are we going to prove that's he's a liar,” I questioned.
“We need someone on the inside, someone that can infiltrate his personal life so they can dig up personal information we can use against him,” Elias said as he stared at Zane with his hand on his chin.
“Zane you're going to send one of your men over to him tomorrow, he's going to say that he no longer wants to work with you because his (Damian) press conference made him see the kind of person you are and he wants to help him get his wife back.”
“There's no way in hell he's going to fall for that,” Zane scoffed.
Elias stared at me for a split second before turning back to Zane. “We'll make him believe, the man we're sending is going to give him really crucial information that can help Damian out, that way, he should be able to Win Damian’s trust.”
“That sounds like it could work, Zane what do you think?” I asked.
“What crucial information is my man going to give to Damian?” Zane directed his question at Elias.
“We're going to attack, we'll send armed men to his house but we won't hurt anyone, we're just doing it to make our man credible. Our man will go to Damian after telling Damian why he came, to win he's trust, he's going to tell him we're planning to attack in few hours and then when we actually show up after a couple of hours, Damian will have no choice but to believe him.”
“Then when our man wins his trust and starts working with him, he can help us get firsthand information we can use against Damian.” Zane sounded impressed by Elias's plan.
“Exactly!” Elias exclaimed.
“We're going to send Luke, he's been with me for a very long time. He's highly skilled in martial arts and also an expert gunman. Aside from that, he's someone I can trust.” Zane said
“Alright then, Luke it is,” Elias said, picking up his phone. “We need to get to work ASAP.”
Elias said goodbye to Shawna and left the house, probably to go get Luke, then Shawna went upstairs.
Zane sat down on the couch and sat me down on his legs with the side of my body resting on his chest.
“Baby, you heard everything Elias said, we've got work to do, so we won't be able to spend as much time together, at least for the next couple of days,” Zane said calmly, I could see the sincerity in his eyes and how much he wanted me to understand him.
“I understand, you're doing everything you can to protect me, to protect us, so it's totally understandable,” I gave him a reassuring smile.
And then my smile slowly faded, when a particular thought crossed my mind
Zane immediately noticed and got concerned so he asked , “Baby what's wrong?”
“You said you're going with your men to Damian’s house tomorrow, I don't want you to get hurt,” I said, looking down.
He chuckled, placing his fingers on my chin as he slowly lifted my face and directed my Gaze at him.
“Baby nothing’s going to happen to me, Damian knows better than to play that kind of careless game and apart from that, we're not going there to fight, no life is going to be lost, we're just trying to make Luke look credible before Damian.”
“I’m going to be just fine,” he added, still staring at me.
“Promise me you're going to be safe,” I said, stretching my finger out to do a pinky promise.
He did the same thing too and now our hands were joined together with our pinky fingers.
“I promise,” he said and then he leaned down and kissed me so passionately and slowly, but it was a short kiss. He pulled away and smiled at me before helping me up and he stood up too.
“You and Shawna could catch up or just order for some snacks and binge movies together, at least to keep yourself busy.”
“That sounds like a good idea,” I said.
“Of course.”
He hugged me and gave me a peck on my forehead before heading outside.
I decided to go upstairs to meet up with Shawna, when climbing the stairs, a thought crossed my mind, I remembered Isla and what she said in the kitchen, that she would be getting married to Zane soon.
I started feeling uncomfortable, what if they do get married and she gives birth to a son for him, what would happen to me then?
This is a conversation I should be having with Zane but he's not here now and we won't have the time to have a proper conversation for the next couple of days. Thank God I have someone else I can open up to without the fear of them judging me, Shawna.
I had gotten upstairs and was walking down the hallway when I heard a sound coming down from one of the rooms at the far end of the hallway.
I thought it was just me and Shawna in the house.
There was only one person who not just had access to the house but also had access to the rooms, and it was Isla.
I wanted to ignore it and just go straight to my room, but the sounds coming from the room were intriguing. I kept hearing groans and mumbling, almost like she was struggling with something, what could she be doing?
I let curiosity get the best of me and in a split second, my legs started moving towards the direction the sounds were coming from.
As I got closer I realised the door was open and decided to peek in. I felt my heart drop to my stomach and my feet and hands become numb as I took in the sight before me.
It was Isla, trying on a wedding dress, the corset was a little tight and she was struggling with Zipping it up, which must have been the reason why she was making the sounds I heard.
She probably noticed my presence and tilted her head towards my direction. The moment she saw it was me, her lips curved upwards forming a really big smile
“You like my dress?” She asked as she turned her body towards me flaunting the front side of her dress.
It was a Victorian style satin wedding dress with a slit from her upper thigh down to the bottom. It had a V cut from the cleavage that stretched off her shoulders, creating an off shoulder effect. As much as I disliked Isla, this was one of the most beautiful wedding gowns I've ever seen.
“My dress just came in today so I decided to try it on, you're gonna be leaving this house soon Amelia, after I officially take your place, I'll make sure he gets rid of you,” she sounded very confident.
“Zane already told me he's never going to get married to you, the marriage is not going to happen and you're most definitely not taking anyone's place.
She let out a loud mocking laugh and held her stomach like she was struggling to breathe because of how hard she was laughing.
“The wedding isn't happening?” She asked, her words laced with Sarcasm.
“You're so clueless and Dumb,” she added, walking towards her dressing table. She picked up a card and threw it at me.
“See for yourself.”
I caught it and at first glance, I could tell it was a wedding card, but whose wedding card?
I flipped it open and my eyes landed on the names on it, Zane Blackwood and Isla Sinclair. This can't be, immediately I saw the date written on it, my head almost exploded, the date of the wedding was March 29th,
2024.
Isla's voice pulled me back to reality, “we're getting married in two days.”
