Chapter 11: No more secrets
Chapter 11: No more secrets
Zane's story made me experience a whirlwind of emotions, it was so many things happening, so many things threatening to pull us apart, but still, we ended up together, we still have each other.
He saved me once from Damian even when the odds were not in his favour and he saved me from him again yesterday.
His love for me was undeniable, he is always ready to put me first and protect me at all cost and that is really heart warming. I'm never ever going to doubt the love he has for me and I'll do everything I can to reciprocate.
“Thank you so much for everything Zane,” I said, smiling at him.
He smiled back, “you're welcome my love, and one more thing. No more secrets.”
His expression looked like he was waiting for my reply, for me to agree with him.
“No more secrets,” I replied.
“Good girl” he said, making me giggle.
“Elias is downstairs with Shawna, and I think it's high time I reintroduce you to him.”
“Reintroduce?” I furrowed my brows.
“Yes baby,” he replied “you both had a really good relationship before your accident, you were like 5 and 6, it even got to a point where I started getting jealous, but you don't remember any of that and now it's just like you're meeting him for the first time.”
Then he stood up, still holding my hand, he helped me stand up from the bed.
“Can you walk or do you need me to carry you?” He asked.
“You're acting like I got hit by a bus,” I chuckled.
“Getting almost abducted is equally as bad as getting hit by a bus.”
“You don't have to be so dramatic about it,” I said laughing.
“You're so unserious,” he gave a dramatic face palm and shook his head.
He put my arm around his neck as he held my waist, helping me out of our room and down the stairs.
I could hear Elias and Shawna talking and laughing from the stairs, it sounded like they were having one hell of a conversation, then all of a sudden they both went silent.
“Why did they go quiet?” I asked, it was more of a rhetorical question, Zane was with me so he most definitely wouldn't know.
“oh I think I know why,” he replied.
We got to the bottom of the stairs and turned towards the sitting room, where their voices had been coming from and the sight in front of us looked like we were watching an explicit movie.
They were kissing, Shawna was sitting on his legs facing him, with their hands moving all over each other's bodies like they were drunk in love.
“Get a room!!!” Zane yelled, startling the both of them and they turned towards us.
His eyes locked onto mine, they were ocean blue, deep and endless, the kind you could get lost in without even realizing it. He looked like Zane, but older. His buzz cut left his blonde hair looking like a fine layer of gold over his scalp, catching the light in a way that made him stand out. A small piercing on his right eyebrow added an edge to his sharp features, giving him that effortless “bad boy” appeal. His nose was pointy and straight, his lips thinner than Zane’s, and his well defined jawline gave him a charming appeal.
He was every shade of handsome, not as handsome as my Zane though.
“Amelia,” he called out my name in a quiet whisper, he looked at me in a way that made it seem like he too was also meeting me for the first time, but there was also another expression on his face that was quite unreadable.
“Hi, Elias,” I said to him before turning back to Shawna to say hi to her too but she had already jumped from his leg towards me and hugged me so tight that I could barely breathe.
“Amy I was so scared, you had barely recovered from the accident and hearing that you were almost abducted absolutely broke my heart, you've been through so much,” she said pulling away from the hug with both her hands on my shoulders. “I'm so glad you're okay,” she said, smiling at me.
“Shawna you're the absolute sweetest,” I smiled back at her. There was something about Shawna that lit up my world whenever I was around her, she was like my little ray of sunshine.
“Remind me to get you a house when I'm rich,” I said, pinching her nose.
“When you're rich? are you joking?” She asked, a smirk curling on her lips. “You’re literally married to a billionaire,I want my house now,” she chuckled.
“You couldn't wear something more decent?” Zane asked, staring at Elias.
Elias was wearing a Los Angeles basketball jersey, exposing his ripped arms and his muscular chest, with his left hand covered with a sleeve tattoo. His black shorts complimented his black jersey.
“You don't have to be so stuck up all the time little brother,” he snickered, walking slowly towards us.
“You know how much I hate it when you call me that,” Zane still maintained his serious tone.
Elias replied, smiling ear to ear. “That's exactly why I did it, little brother.”
He looked like he was having a good time taunting his brother.
“Come here,” he said, pulling Zane in for a hug and Zane immediately broke his nonchalant emotionless facade, his lips formed a smile and he looked genuinely happy that his brother was here.
Elias pulled away from the hug and stared back at me again.
“Forgive my baby brother for not properly introducing us,”
“Baby bro….. oh my God!!” Zane rolled his eyes and walked away.
Elias wasn't fazed by it considering the fact that he didn't bat an eye in Zane's direction.
“He's such a drama queen,” Shawna said to Elias, laughing at Zane's reaction before turning to me. “I'll be back in a sec, I need to make a call.”
“Okey dokey,” I replied. It was just me and Elias left in the sitting room now.
“Amelia, I don't even know what to say, seeing you here in one piece after everything that's happened feels so surreal,” Elias' tone was calm and welcoming, which contradicted his appearance.
“Zane said we used to have a good relationship and we were kind of close,” I said to him, not knowing what else to say.
“Yeah, we had a really beautiful friendship, we were always there for each other, no matter what. You had my back, and I had yours, that’s just how it was. We went through so much together, and I remember every bit of it. But you don’t. And that’s really sad because I’m the only one who still has to keep the memories of everything. But it's okay though, we have all the time in the world to create new memories,” he smiled at me, there was a rare kind of purity in his eyes.
I smiled back at him and then something crossed my mind, “I hear you and Shawna are together, she's my best friend and she means the world to me so if you ever do anything to hurt her or break her heart….. I'm gonna kill you!” I warned, I tried to keep a straight face but I just couldn't, not with the way he was looking at me like he was trying to suppress his laughter.
“That is the most non-threatening threat I've ever heard in my life,” he burst out laughing. “It sounded like you were singing a lullaby with that voice.”
“I'm being serious,” I couldn't help but join in his laughter.
“Guys!!!” Shawna yelled as she walked back into the house, staring at her phone. There was some sort of uneasiness in her voice that made me feel uncomfortable, I knew something was wrong.
“We have a problem,” she added.
“What's going on?” Zane asked, he had come back to the sitting room most likely after hearing Shawna's voice.
“Elias turn on the TV,” Shawna instructed, and he turned on the TV.
It was a press conference, and the person in front of us was Damian. Why was he holding a press conference?
I turned to look at Zane and he immediately came to me, holding my hand, with his other hand on my shoulders.
“What is he doing?” I asked him, and he shook his head.
I shifted my gaze back to the TV and I saw Damian bring out something that looked like it was an official paper, then he stared talking.
“I'm holding this press conference today to ask for help, because I can't do this alone anymore, yesterday I was attacked and shot at. I could have died, but luckily the bullet only grazed past my ears,” he said pointing at his bandaged ears.
“The person who tried to kill me is one of USA's favourite, Zane blackwood.”
“You better be joking,” Elias snarled through gritted teeth.
“Amelia Carter is my wife, the love of my life,my sweet little angel,” Damian continued talking, with his voice shaking like he was holding back tears, he was such a good actor.
“And Zane blackwood took her from me, he abducted her and locked her up in his house doing God knows what to her. My sweet angel tried to escape, she came to me but unfortunately, Zane blackwood tracked us down before we could leave and he shot at me with the intention of killing me but luckily I was able to escape with just a scratch and he took my wife back to his house, his prison.”
“He's twisted everything,” I whispered.
“I know I have never been public about my marriage so I brought proof, to show the world I'm not a liar,” Damian added.
Damian turned the paper he was holding towards the camera. “This is our Marriage certificate, Amelia Carter and I.”
The camera zoomed in on the paper, focusing on the signature at the bottom of the page and a gasp left my mouth, there it was, my signature, right beside his on the marriage papers. My hands trembled as a cold wave of shock crashed over me. How was this possible?
