Chapter 105 Last Kiss

Chapter 105 Last Kiss
THEY DIDN’T SPEAK during the ride. No one wanted to break the silence. She knew he had a lot of questions but was likely saving them for when they got home. She was doing the same. She had her own questions too.

She pretended to close her eyes and sleep. She only opened them again once they arrived. She didn’t wait for her husband to open the door for her. She got out ahead of him.

She sat in the living room and waited for her husband to come in. She met his gaze as he walked toward her.

He was about to kiss her when she pushed him away.

“Don’t pretend like we’re okay, BK.”

He closed his eyes briefly and ran his hand through his hair when he opened them.

“Why were you with that guy?”

“He’s not just some guy, BK. He’s my professor.”

“Yeah. A professor taking advantage of his student! Fck!”

Her eyes narrowed at what she heard from him. “What did you say? My professor's taking advantage of me? Wow. If you’re going to accuse someone like that, choose wisely, because he’s a better man than you are. And don’t change the subject, okay? I have a clear conscience. I’ve done nothing wrong. You know what our real problem is.”

“Then why were you two under the same roof?”

“He was just being kind because I got drunk last night. And that’s your fault! Because of your lies and your family’s lies!”

“B-baby…” he said, at a loss for words.

“Always with the ‘baby,’ BK? Can’t you explain for once?!”

“I-I’m sorry, baby. I just didn’t know how to tell you. I was waiting for the right moment. You already have so much going on. I didn’t want to add more. I couldn’t bear to see you suffer.”

She laughed bitterly. “You didn’t want to see me suffer? I’m already in pain because of you! And when were you going to tell me? When does the kid turn five? Is that the ‘right moment,’ BK? You know what’s worse? You lied to me night after night, just to see Amber. You made me look like a fool in this house, worrying about you, thinking you were out on a mission. Do you think that doesn’t hurt, BK? Doesn’t it?!”

“I know it hurts. That’s why I’m apologizing for lying. That’s the only way I knew how, baby. But can’t you see I’m hurting too in all of this? I love you so much, Daph, but I got someone pregnant. Damn it! I didn’t want this either. I didn’t want to lose another child because of my own carelessness. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love you, because I do. You’re all I think about, baby. Amber’s pregnancy became high-risk, and I had to be there. I didn’t want any regrets like what happened with our baby, baby. And if it were you who was pregnant, I’d do the same. I hope you understand.”

She shook her head slowly. “I’m sorry, BK. I don’t understand, because you only made me understand now! What did you expect? That I’d accept this just like that? Your mom? Has she known for a while now, huh?”

“No, baby. Just last night. She even hesitated before coming because she was angry. But she couldn’t resist and came anyway. I’m sorry, baby. I hope you can forgive me for hiding the truth.”

“To be honest, BK, this is the second chance I’ve given you. And it was wasted. I tried hard to forgive you for lying about our child, thinking you’d change, but you didn’t. You kept doing it. Every day, BK. Damn it, right?” She pointed at the door.

“Each time you stepped out that door for your so-called ‘mission,’ I was left worrying, afraid something bad might happen to you, only to find out you were in someone else’s house, safe and sound, looking after a pregnant woman. So tell me the truth now, BK. Did anything happen between you and Amber again? Just be honest with me, please.”

She shut her eyes and clutched her chest. She was holding back the tears.

He shook his head. “No, baby. Nothing’s going on. I just go there to bring her the food she craves. I wait until she falls asleep. That’s all, baby. Please believe me,” he said sincerely.

“Thank you for answering, BK.”

“D-does that mean you forgive me?”

She shook her head. “It’s not that easy to forgive from my side. You’ve already pushed me past my limit. But I do feel sorry for your child. So I think it’s only right that you step up. It’s hard to grow up without a father. I’ve been there. I understand your situation. But that doesn’t mean I accept it, BK. I can’t. I’m sorry.”

“B-baby…”

“L-let’s rest for now, BK. Y-you focus on your child. And I’ll focus on school,” she said with a sniff.

It was hard to say. Her chest felt tight.

“No!” he shouted. “I won’t allow that!”

“Y-your child needs you, BK. You don’t have to worry about me anymore. You have no responsibility here. I’m a grown woman. I can take care of myself.”

BK dropped to his knees and hugged her. “I don’t want this, baby. Please. Don’t do this. Don’t leave me. I can’t lose you. Please, please. I won’t lie ever again. Just give me one more chance, baby. One more…”

She felt his tears soaking her clothes, and then she broke down. He was holding her waist so tightly in that moment.

She gently pried his hands off and stood. He was already hunched over when she looked down at him.

“I want to, BK. But I’m tired. You’ve drained me. I want to find myself again. I’m going back to Bergen. They’re waiting for me.”

“I’ll go with you, baby.”

“I need space, BK, so no. You need to find yourself too, or at least focus on your child. Like Amber said, they need you.”

Her husband sat down heavily on the floor. He looked at her and shook his head. He was about to speak when his phone rang beside him. They exchanged glances. He let it ring several times, still staring at her.

She couldn’t help it. She answered it.

“D-dear,” said BK’s mother on the other end. “May I speak with BK?”

“H-hold on, Ma.” She turned to her husband. “Your mom wants to talk to you,” she said.

He shook his head, so she asked why.

“T-the baby’s in the ICU. He needs BK,” his mother said. She looked at her husband, waiting for her to speak.

“I’m sorry…” She bit her lip to keep from crying at what she just heard.

She knew that was meant for her. Sorry, because her son got another woman pregnant? Or sorry, because she couldn’t even be consoled right now since he was needed more at the hospital. She was all alone, with no one.

“Alright, I’ll tell him.” And the call ended.

“The baby’s in the ICU, BK. He needs you. Your child needs you.”

Her husband kept shaking his head.

“I don’t want to go. What if you’re gone when I come back? I don’t want that, baby. Please…” he sobbed, covering his face.

“But your child needs you more, BK. Don’t you want to avoid regretting this? It hurts me too, but I have to accept it. So you need to do the same—accept it all. If I leave this house, you know where to find me. But I want you to fix yourself first. Because that’s what I’m going to do too. Prioritize your child.”

And with that, she turned to head upstairs.

She hadn’t even stepped on the first stair when BK hugged her tightly from behind.

“I’ll go see him, baby. But please… wait for me. I’ll come back right away,” he pleaded.

She turned to face him and nodded.

“Alright. I’ll wait for you, BK. But you can’t stop me from going. I’m still leaving.” His shoulders slumped again, but in the end, he agreed.

She was about to turn when BK cupped her nape and kissed her hard on the lips. She kissed him back. Soon enough, she could taste the mix of both their tears and spit. She was going to miss him so much, his hugs, and his kisses. She hoped they could find their way back to each other again someday. She just couldn’t bear watching everything he did for the mother of his child. She wasn’t strong enough to endure the pain. She was only human—the fragile one.
