Chapter 104 Fuming

Chapter 104 Fuming
DAPHNE held her head when the pain struck. She groaned a moment later.

She hadn’t even managed to sit on the bed yet when her vision spun.

She decided it was best to lie down first.

She glanced around the entire room. It wasn’t hers.

‘Whose room could this be?’ she asked herself.

She slapped her forehead when she remembered her professor—Emmanuel Yu.

She was likely in his house. She couldn’t recall anything that happened after.

She was right. Moments later, Emmanuel entered the room carrying a tray. Embarrassing—he had even cooked for her.

“I’m sorry, Sir…” She held her head as she guided herself into a sitting position.

“You need this soup to ease your hangover,” he said as he set the tray on the side table.

He smiled at her.

“Just finish this first before you sleep again. With all those mixed drinks, the headache must be killing you, especially since you're not used to it. If you’d like to shower, the things are ready inside too,” he added.

She felt even more embarrassed.

“Thank you so much, Sir. I don’t know where I’d be now if you weren’t at that bar. But I’ll just shower at home instead.”

“You’re my student. That’s why I did it. How are you feeling now?”

“I’m still dizzy.”

“Oh, c’mon, Daphne. That headache won’t go away unless you shower. There’s an extra dress inside. It’s my cousin’s. She left it here. If that’s okay with you. My closet’s full of men’s stuff.” He scratched his head, as if sheepish.

She let out a soft laugh. “I should be the one embarrassed, sir, since I’m the one troubling you.”

“It’s nothing.” He smiled. “I’ll leave you for now. If you need anything, just call me, okay?”

He had only taken a few steps when she spoke.

“Did you know I’ve been drinking two nights in a row? You think I’ll drop dead if I drink again tonight?” she said with a laugh.

“That’s not funny, Miss Hernandez. If I were your family, I would’ve scolded you by now. Like I said, he’s not worth it. But you are. A lot of people love you. Cheer up, Daphne. That’s not how I know the Frosts. What about your mom if you give up? Your dad? Your brother Max?”

She closed her eyes at that. She had nearly forgotten about her family because of their marital issues.

“T-thank you so much for the reminder, Sir Emmanuel.” She smiled, but the sadness still lingered in it.

“Call me Emmanuel when we’re outside or when it’s just us, Daphne. You’re welcome, anyway.” He gave her a warm smile before stepping out.

She lay down for a bit and stared at the ceiling. No matter how hard she tried to block out everything, it wouldn’t leave her head. It just hurts too much. So before her tears could fall, she got up and forced herself to finish the soup.

The dress Emmanuel lent her fit just fine. Even the undies and bra were new.

She was brushing her hair when she heard banging from the gate, followed by a familiar voice.

“Baby! Are you in there? Please come out!”

Her brow furrowed at the shout. She stood up from her seat and peeked out the window. Her lips parted in surprise when she confirmed it was her husband outside.

“How did he find this house?” She turned to the door when she heard Emmanuel’s voice.

She bit her lip. “My phone’s open. BK installed a tracker on it before. I’m sorry.”

“I see. Just tell me what you want to do. If you don’t want to talk to him, I’ll send him away—”

“I’ll talk to him. I don’t want you dragged into our mess.”

Emmanuel let out a breath.

“The moment I put you in my car, I was already part of it, Daphne. So it’s okay if he sees me.”

“B-but—”

“Trust me, Daphne. He’ll only realize your worth when someone else steps in, and I’m willing to be that person. Don’t worry about me; he won’t touch me no matter how powerful he is.”

She stared at her professor. It didn’t feel like the same man who always challenged her at school. He seemed like a different person. Why was he caring so much?

“Tell me what to do, Daphne.”

“Stay here, Emmanuel. Please? I’m really grateful for your concern, but I don’t want you involved. Not your job, either. Don’t worry, I’ll call a friend if I can’t handle it, and that friend is you. Can I count on you?”

Emmanuel took a moment before answering.

“Okay. I’m here.”

“Thank you,” she said with a strained smile.

She gave him one last look before stepping out of the room.

Once again, she heard her husband’s shouting from outside. He only calmed down when he saw her. He looked like a man locked up and desperate for a visit from a loved one, as shown by how he clung to the gate bars. The guard was also holding him back.

“B-baby…”

She nodded at the guard, who stepped aside.

“What are you doing here, BK? Shouldn’t you be at the hospital, watching over your child?” She emphasized your child.

“Because you’re here. Let’s go home, baby.”

She stared at her husband. It took her a while to respond.

“I’ll go with you because I want us to talk seriously, BK. But please, don’t show me that pathetic look, because I don’t pity you. I pity myself.”

BK couldn’t say a word.

“Just wait in your car. I’ll say goodbye to the owner of the house. It’s embarrassing. You woke up their neighbors.”

“I-I’m sorry…”

She didn’t respond. She turned around and went back inside Emmanuel’s house. He was leaning against the doorframe, watching her.

“You’re going with him?” She nodded.

“We need to talk as husband and wife. And I’m really sorry for what BK did outside.”

“It’s okay. Just call me if you need help.”

“I will.”

She returned to the room she’d used and gathered her clothes, bag, and phone. She told him she’d return the dress once it was washed.

“Take care,” he said as he walked her to the door and opened it for her.

“Thank you, Emmanuel.” She smiled at him before stepping out.

She saw BK frown. He wasn’t looking at her. He was staring at Emmanuel, who had stepped outside, too.

She quickly walked toward the gate. The guard opened it at once.

She gasped when BK pulled her hand harshly, dragging her away from the professor’s house. He glanced back at Emmanuel before opening the car door for her.

She could feel BK’s heavy breathing as he buckled her seatbelt. She knew he was fuming at what he’d seen. He hurried into the driver’s seat and sped off without a word.
