Chapter 255 Bonus – Welcome Babies
Chapter 255 Bonus – Welcome Babies
Lainey’s POV
I checked in and was prepped for the C-section. A catheter, IV with antibiotics, and an epidural were all administered thanks to Nurse June.
“Are you ready, Lainey?” Nurse June asked, smiling.
“Absolutely,” I responded.
“Well, let’s get this show on the road,” June replied. “Benjamin is waiting for you in the operating room.”
“Perfect, I hope he doesn’t pass out,” I giggled.
Nurse June laughed, “Husbands have no idea, do they?”
“No, they don’t,” I stated.
June rolled me down to the operating room, and Ben was there, all suited up in surgery scrubs.
“My sweetness,” Ben grinned. “How are you doing?”
“I’m doing great,” I answered. “Ready to have some babies!”
Dr. MacKenzie chuckled, “Now that’s some enthusiasm. Most people that come into my operating room are nervous, not excited.”
“It helps that I know the procedure and that you’re a brilliant doctor,” I replied.
“Well, let’s get those babies delivered,” Dr. MacKenzie said, clapping her hands.
Nurse June put up a drape over my chest to block the view of the surgery and restrained my arms.
“Is that necessary?” Ben said, looking at me in shock.
“Yes, just in case my hands react instinctively,” I informed. “Don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt. Ben, look at me. Don’t look past the drape. The blood and cut can make some people woozy.”
“My attention will be on you the whole time,” Ben grinned.
“Lainey, let me know if you feel any pain,” Dr. MacKenzie told me. “You will, of course, feel tugging or pulling.”
“Understood,” I told her.
About 10 minutes later, I felt a tugging sensation, then a suctioning sound, and a baby's cry.
“Oh, my gosh,” I said, crying.
Ben smiled and kissed my forehead.
“Congratulations, Mommy and Daddy, the first baby is a boy,” Dr. MacKenzie announced.
“Baby Killian,” Ben stated, a tear escaping from his eye. “You are amazing, Lainey.” Ben kissed my forehead again.
More pulling, then another room-piercing cry. “Baby number 2 is a boy,’ Dr. MacKenzie announced.
“Another boy,” I said, smiling. “I guess your boys can swim.” I giggled.
“Seems that way,” Ben smirked, “but I want a little Lainey.”
Another nurse came over with Killian. “Baby number 1, do you want to hold him next to your wife?” She said, looking at Ben.
“Absolutely,” Ben said immediately. Taking Killian in his arms and laying him on my shoulder as he held him.
I started crying more and kissed his forehead. “Welcome to the world, baby Killian,” I whispered.
More tugging and suctioning, but no cry. More suctioning, still no cry.
“Dr. MacKenzie, what’s going on?!?” I yelled.
“Lainey, calm down,” Dr. MacKenzie advised. “We just need more suction.”
I can’t calm down. Please, baby, cry, breathe, do something. I could see the nurses move the baby to the cleaning station and start working on them.
“Everything is going to be alright, Lainey,” June stated. “Just a lot of mucus and congestion.” June looked at the young nurse standing by. “Maya, bring me a chair!”
“Take mine,” Ben said, standing up. Another nurse took Killian from Ben and placed him in a cot.
Maya grabbed the chair, and June sat in it, laying the baby in her lap face down. Then she gave the baby a smack on the back. The baby cried out.
Tears streamed down my face with joy. “Thank you, thank you, thank you,” I kept repeating.
June looked up at me as she cradled the baby. “Sometimes old school methods work the best,” she beamed. “Congratulations on your baby girl.” June got up with our daughter, cleaned her up, then weighed and measured her.
“A Girl!” Ben screamed excitedly. “Lainey, we have a little girl!”
“Ok, Daddy,” Dr. MacKenzie said, looking at Ben. “I need to finish stitching up your wife. Now would be a good time to tell your entourage about the delivery. Looks like all the babies are adorably perfect.”
Ben looked at me like he didn’t want to leave me. “Go,” I said, smiling. “Both the babies and I are doing great. Share the happy news. I insist.”
Ben bent down and kissed my lips. “I love you, my sweetness,” Ben whispered and stroked my hair. “This is the best day ever. I will see you soon, my love.” Maya ushered Ben out the door.
Ben’s POV
I didn’t want to leave Lainey, but she insisted. Nurse Maya led me down the hall to the VIP waiting room.
“Thank you, Maya,” I grinned.
“Congratulations, Mr. Halesten,” Maya stated, then disappeared down the hall.
I pushed open the door, and all eyes in the room looked in my direction. I smiled the biggest grin I had ever smiled. “Lainey and the babies are doing great,” I announced. “Two boys and a girl.”
Cheering and clapping erupted in the room. My mom raced over and hugged me. “Oh, Benjamin!” she sobbed, clinging to me desperately.
“Mom! Stop hogging him,” Becks teased. Mom released me, and Becks jumped me, wrapping her arms around my neck and her legs around my waist. “Thanks for making me an Auntie,” she said, hugging me tight.
“Well, I’d like to take a lot of credit, but mine was just a small part,” I laughed. “You need to thank my gorgeous wife.”
Angelica was next to embrace me. “Thank god, they revived my granddaughter,” she whispered. “The world has big plans for her.”
“How did you know?!?” I blurted out.
Angelica put her finger to her lips. “Let’s not panic anyone,” she said softly.
Andrew, Thomasina, Reg and Roberta all hugged and congratulated me. Roberta was so emotional. “We never had kids,” Roberta advised, “but if we did, Lainey would be the exact type of woman we would want as our daughter. Reg and I have unofficially adopted her as our own.”
“That is so sweet of you to say,” I replied. “I know that Lainey thinks very highly of both of you.”
Roberta smiled. “We should get back to the clinic. Thomasina is heading back with us. Please let Lainey know we’ll be back to see her after work.”
“I definitely will,” I responded.
Dad came over and patted me on the shoulder. “Well done, son,” Dad grinned. “One of the best days of your life, right?”
“Absolutely, I think I’m even more in love with Lainey,” I told him. “And instantly in love with my kids.”
“I’m so proud of you, Ben,” Dad revealed, hugging me. “I love you, son.”
“Thanks, Dad,” I said, smiling. “I love you, too.”
The door opened, and Nurse June walked in. “Lainey is in her room,” June informed. “We will have to monitor her for the next few hours to make sure there are no hemorrhages. She’s sleeping right now, so I would say no visitors for a couple of hours except you, Benjamin.”
“We’ll all go for lunch and be back in a couple of hours,” Dad said, patting my shoulder again. “Go take care of Lainey.”
