Chapter 93 Chapter 93
CLARA'S P.O.V
I was relieved after I saw Jace and Tina return.
At first, I stayed on the second-floor balcony, watching them as Roy drove the black Bentley into the residence and parked it.
Jace got out of the car first and went to assist Tina and my son in getting out, as Tina was the one carrying Kevin in her arms, and carefully took him inside.
A few minutes later, I waited for Jace to come and confront me and maybe ask me anything related to the DNA test result. But he didn't, and that made me relieved.
As I went to see him, Jace had a calm look on his face, though I knew that he was concerned about Celine. It was a relief that Celine had left Turkey Island and Jace wouldn't run into her or get to see her again.
I ignored Jace's comment about why I didn't want to breastfeed Kevin.
I made my way downstairs to the kitchen to check on what we had available for dinner.
As I got into the kitchen, Esther was there, arranging the kitchen utensils and washing out my baby's feeding bottle.
"Good afternoon, Madam," Esther greeted me. Though we were agemates, she knew better than to not respect me.
"Well done. What do we have available for dinner? I would like to cook something today," I said, walking over to the cabinet to meet Esther.
Esther's eyes widened in shock as she looked surprised by my comment, but she glanced away and retrieved a book.
"Madam, I am supposed to cook this Jollof rice and chicken," Esther said.
"Do we have the ingredients available?" I asked her, and she nodded.
"Yes. We have most of them," she said.
"Alright. Let's get to it. I will be the one to prepare our lunch today," I told Esther with a friendly smile, and she nodded.
"Alright, madam. Just give me a moment to deliver this feeding bottle and warm water to Tina," Esther said, and I smiled at her as she made her way out of the kitchen.
I waited for Esther's return as I looked around the modernized kitchen, anxious to cook.
I assumed that was what my twin sister had used to win Jace's heart. If I cooked his favorite meal and he found out that I was the one who had cooked it, I was sure that Jace would love me and our affair would rekindle.
I smiled at my thoughts and set to cook the meal.
A few minutes later, Esther returned to the kitchen, and she helped me get the chicken out of the fridge and brought out other ingredients.
I reached for an apron and tied it around my chest. After that, I reached for a knife to slice the onions and other ingredients that I wanted to use to cook the chicken.
But I couldn't chop the onions and kept fumbling with them, probably because I had long fingernails.
"Let me help you with it, Madam," Esther offered, but I didn't want to drop it.
"Don't worry. I can handle these onions," I told Esther with a smile, and she nodded.
"Just go on and wash the chicken; let me deal with these onions," I said and struggled to cut the remaining onions.
After completing the slicing of the two onions, I exhaled with relief and brought them to the pot.
I set all the ingredients as I recalled how my mother had taught me.
It had been a long time, and this was my first time cooking.
After getting confused for a while, I looked at Esther's face and asked her, "What do you add first, the ingredients or the chicken?"
Esther's jaw dropped as she looked at me with surprise.
"Madam, you add the chicken first before the ingredients," she replied, thinking I was Celine.
"That's right. Thank you for reminding me. These days I get too forgetful," I told Esther with a smile, and she sighed with relief.
After adding the chicken, I added water and all the ingredients that I had made available.
"No, Madam. We should have waited for the chicken to parboil before adding the remaining ingredients to taste it," Esther said as she looked at me in shock.
"It's fine. It will still be fine," I told Esther with a smile, and she nodded.
"Alright Madam."
I shut the pot and reached to switch on the cooker, but I didn't even know how to turn it on.
"Let me help you with that, Madam," Esther came forward, and I moved aside and watched her turn on the cooker.
"Wow, thank you," I told her, and she nodded, looking at me suspiciously as I knew that Esther was already suspecting that I was not Celine.
We waited in the kitchen, and when the chicken was ready, I set up another pot to cook the rice and stew and mix up everything.
Esther was next to me, checking everything.
After I made the chicken available to fry it with an air fryer, Esther was next to me, cautioning me about the seasoning that I should add.
"You don't need to add any ingredients again. Just mix the chicken with oil and put it into the air fryer," she lectured me, and I smiled.
"Alright."
After working tirelessly in the kitchen, frying the chicken and cooking the Jollof rice, I was sweating profusely as I set down the meal, and it was ready to chop.
"Can I taste it?" I asked Esther, just after I had served out a little portion for myself to eat.
"Yes, Madam. You can give it a try," Esther said, and I nodded with a smile.
"Alright," I replied and picked up a spoon as I scooped the rice and ate it.
"Wow!" The Jollof rice was delicious, only that it had too much pepper.
"Wow! It's delicious. This is actually my first time cooking," I said, and Esther's jaw dropped in shock.
"Madam, aren't you the one cooking for us since?" she asked, and I looked at her and smiled.
"Don't mind me. Get the meals served out on different plates. I will go and call Jace, and don't read too much meaning into what I said," I told Esther, my voice having a hint of warning in it.
"Okay, madam," Esther replied, while I went to wash my hands and set out to take off the apron.
I exited the kitchen and went to the top floor to find Jace.
However, as I got to the top floor, Jace wasn't in his room, and I made my way to the study and rang his doorbell.
Jace didn't reply to me, making me frown as I stood there and constantly rang the doorbell.
After a while, the door unlocked, and Jace came out and peered at me.
"What do you want?" he asked me, his voice lacking warmth.
"I am done cooking. Come and join me for dinner," I told him, and he scowled.
"I never asked you to cook for me, Clara. And I watched the cooking videos. You shouldn't bother to cook again, so you don't blow up the whole house," Jace's expression was stern. But I wouldn't take no for an answer.
"Alright. Aren't you going to come and try out my cooking? This is my first time cooking, please," I begged him, and he looked at me with an expressionless face.
"Fine. I will only have a taste, and if it's not good, I will leave it for you and order Roy to get me food. Next time, don't interrupt Esther in doing her work."
I scowled, knowing that Jace was monitoring me through his CCTV footage.
Sighing, I waited for him to wear his slippers, and he followed me downstairs to the dining room.
Esther had already set up the meals on the table, so Jace and I took our seats.
