Chapter Thirty
Chapter Thirty
Margaret Mathias.
The door was pried open, and then I saw my mother standing by the door, her eyes brimming with tears as she walked to me and sat on the bed beside me. I could see the pain in her eyes, but no word was uttered other than sobbing.
Denise stood up as he turned to leave, but his words still lingered in my memory, making me wonder what was happening.
Her skin was still pale, her mouth slightly dry as he came close to me. I tried to calm my nerves by not thinking too much about the situation, but when my mother whispered Alexander's name in my ears, my body immediately stiffened. I closed my eyes, tears slowly slipping down my cheeks, my heart pounding so fast as I thought about the whole ordeal. I couldn't comprehend what was happening to me, wondering why his name had so much effect on me, making me wonder if things would be the same with me.
I immediately looked up, my eyes with tears, as I wrapped her gently as I asked desperately, "Please, who's Alexander?"
"I'm the one." A masculine voice echoed through the door. I averted my gaze towards the door, and I noticed that he had a tray of food in his hand as he came to me and sat on the bed. I almost noticed the unspoken fear in my mom's eyes, but she didn't say a word.
He briefly stared at me before opening the food and handing it over to me.
"Have some."
"But..."
"I said have some; don't make me repeat myself." With trembling hands, I managed to collect the food from him. I stared at him, and I saw a flicker of blue on them. I turned towards my mother, begging her to tell me what Alexander wanted from me.
Trying to avoid the whole ordeal because Alexander seems dangerous, I immediately stood up and said I'll be using the bathroom. I stood up; I was about to leave, only for him to let out a deep, commanding tone.
"You are going nowhere until you eat the food."
Tears were already welling in my mother's eyes as she shook her head desperately but couldn't utter a word, almost like she was prohibited from talking.
I noticed the food was soupy in nature, so I fetched a spoonful. As I guided it to my mouth, my heart was pounding. As I tasted it, it felt weird in my mouth at first. I tried calming my nerves because it almost tasted bloody.
"No...no, you can't..." My mother begged with teary eyes; I wondered why she was sounding emotional since it tasted nice.
I turned to Alexander, who had a smug smile on his face; he looked unaffected. Suddenly my vision blurred, my head felt like it was carrying five hundred tons of weight, and my hands felt weak. "What did you do to me?" I asked while looking at Alexander.
"I did what any father would have done."
"You shouldn't have done this; she's too young." My mother raised her voice for the first time, looking at him.
Without a word, he stood up and walked away without looking back. My mother wrapped her hand around me while looking terrified. She was sobbing, "You will be okay; I believe that you will." When he said those words, I felt more at ease. I can't explain the feeling, but it was like my soul was more at rest before I completely blacked out.
'Margaret, your mother needs you; she wants you by her side. Don't forsake her.' A soothing voice lingered. I immediately sat on the bed, my eyes wide open, my heart pounding frantically as I searched frantically, wondering what was happening. I turned towards the window, and I noticed it was already afternoon. Then Denise walked into the room, his eyes were focused on me, and without a word, he came to me as he wrapped his hand around mine, while looking at me terrified, like something might have happened.
"We need to leave."
I thought for a moment, recalling how different things have been happening to me ever since I stepped into this environment, so I nodded my head and decided to follow him. While I was going with him, it felt strange that things were not working the way I had always wanted. So we left with him, and then I thought of my mother. I wrapped my hand around Denise tightly. "No, I can't leave my mother behind."
"But..."
"There's nothing you are saying that would change my mind about leaving my mother behind," I cut in.
"I'm not trying to stop you; I just want you to understand that your mother can't be taken away from this house because Alexander owns her."
"No, it can't be possible; Alexander can't own my mother." I said with so much frustration etched in my voice as I went back in desperate search of my mother but she was nowhere to be found, I was calling out my mother's name several times, but it seems like she was almost absent, I tried calming my nerves as I continued the search process, but nothing was working, when I gave up, I was about to run back to Denise, I suddenly noticed a door at the far end of the long corridor, I walked steadily toward the door, my heart pounding with each step at took, when I reached the door, I heard his voice, it was Alexander with the gentle whispers of my mother, 'please don't involve her in this, yes I made a mistake by not hiding her well enough, but I'm pleading with you, don't invoked her in any of your schemes.' I heard the voice of my mother; she sounded terrified.
'You have already made the mistake by disclosing everything to her, and you think even if she's now in human form, it'll change anything? A father has to do what he has to do to protect his child; they make tough decisions to protect their family.' He said those words with so much authority, which made me scared. I can't help but wonder who they were talking about and what they were talking about.
Without hesitation, I barged into the room. What I saw left my mouth hanging open. I noticed that their lips were tightly locked to each other and their arms around one another, but what baffled me was why they were yelling like they were not on good terms. The kiss suddenly turned deep and intense; I almost felt it was an intrusion of privacy, so I turned away while trying to mind my business, only to hear a gentle scream coming from my mother. I turned, and I noticed Alexander had buried his fangs so deep into her flesh. The whole process looks so horrifying that not a word escapes my lips. My mother turned pale as she fell down, looking so lifeless. "Mom...Mom..." I called desperately as I rushed towards her. I looked at Alexander, wondering why he did that to her. I was wailing at the top of my voice, then the memories rushed in like a tsunami. I almost collapsed from the intense pressure and migraine it caused. Despite everything, I still wrapped my hand around my mother's cold body.
"You have been feeding on my mother for a long time, but no more, Dad, because I'm taking matters into my own hands," I said with clenched fists as I stood up. My gaze was focused on him. I didn't feel scared; my fists were tightly clenched, and my eyes were red.
"Denise once said, 'I'm more powerful than I think I am.' I now believe him, because even though you are a bloodsucker with the illusion that they don't die because they are eternal, I'll make sure I kill you, Alexander."
He looked unperturbed, a mischievous smile creeping on his face. "If that's easy, I'll be happy for you to go for it, daughter."
"I'm not your daughter, you bastard..." I called out loudly as I lunged, mindlessly ignoring the consequences of my actions. I felt my heart pounding so fast when I felt my mother's tight grip around my ankle as she whispered, "No, don't do this; you just need to run, leave from here."
"Even if she runs, she'll still find her way back to her hometown," he said devilishly as he walked towards the window.
I couldn't hold back anymore as I lunged at him, and we ended up fighting. I landed an uppercut to his jaw before kicking his balls with my left knee and taking the leap to punch his cheeks with so much force that he ended up falling to the ground. Blood oozed out of his nose, but the mischievous smile was still on his lips, which infuriated me even more. I rushed towards him to finish what I started, only for him to pull out a gun, aiming it at me, before pulling the trigger and shooting me. The sound echoed off the room's walls. I stopped briefly; my heart stopped beating for a millisecond.
"Nooo..." The mother screamed so loudly, tears rolling down my cheeks as I fell to the ground. Only to see Denise also fall on the ground. I looked at myself, and I realized I was perfectly fine, but Denise was not. I crawled to him, wrapping my hands around him. He was covered in his own pool of blood, and then he said with a gentle smile, "I told you that we need to run, because no one has ever fought with Alexander and won the battle."
