Chapter 128
Chapter 128
Autumn's POV
When I got home with Adonis, I just wanted to go to my room and be left alone, but he kept following me around like he had something heavy on his mind. I could tell by the way he walked close to me, his steps slower than usual. Finally, I couldn't take it anymore so I snapped at him.
"What exactly do you want from me? Can I help you?"
"I wanted to ask if there was anything you would like to do and if it's something that I could help you with." He said.
I scoffed and started working away. "Where's this coming from?"
"I really thought about it and I want to help you with your future endeavors, which is why I'm asking if there's anything you want to do? You look like there's a lot on your mind."
I stopped walking and looked at him like he was insane. "Why are you asking me that? Since when do you care about what I want to do?"
He looked serious though, not like he was trying to annoy me. His eyes stayed on mine, and he sighed. "I’m asking because I want to know. If there’s anything you need, just say it. I’ll help you."
I almost laughed in his face. He made it sound so easy, but I knew the truth. They only cared when it suited them. All this talk about helping me is just the monitor what I'm doing. I do have a lot of things I want to do which involved finding my family. I need to know where I come from and where I want to go.
But still, I couldn’t ignore the fact that Adonis had connections. They're all powerful people with great connections and their pack is also very big. It's easy for them to have access to a lot of things. He could do things I couldn’t. And if there was one thing I wanted more than anything, it was to find my real family.
I folded my arms and looked him straight in the eye. "You really want to help me? Fine. Find my family. My real family. That’s the only thing I want. Can you do that?"
Honestly, I expected him to refuse. He and his brothers were selfish, and I knew they didn’t want me to leave them. Asking them to find my family was like asking them to push me away. But to my surprise, he didn’t even hesitate.
"I’ll find them," he said firmly. "No matter what it takes, I’ll find a way to track your family down."
For a second, I just stared at him. "You actually agree to help me?"
"Yes. I told you I'll find your family and I'll keep my promise. We should have done this a long time ago, you didn't deserve to grow up with people like us." He replied me.
What was this derogatory meaning to their names? I didn't deserve to grow up with people like them? Was this supposed to be below me or above me? I honestly wanted to know answers and didn't know what to expect.
I didn’t know whether to believe him or not. Part of me thought it was just another trick to make me stay close to them. But another part of me wanted to hope that maybe, just maybe, he meant it. I didn’t let him see how much his words touched me though. I simply nodded and walked past him.
"I’ll hold you to your word," I said coldly and left him standing there.
I went to my room, changed out of my clothes, and took a shower. The water felt good on my skin after everything that had happened. It was like washing off the dirt and the memories of yesterday. I still wasn't safe no matter how many times I was saved by anyone. The only person who could save me now was myself.
When I came out, I dried myself and got dressed. As soon as I stepped into the hallway, I ran into Lily. She looked worried the moment her eyes fell on me.
"Where have you been, miss?" she asked quickly. "I couldn’t reach you at all yesterday. Do you know how worried I was?"
I sighed. Lily always worried too much. "I was attacked," I told her honestly. "That’s why I didn’t answer you. There's nothing to worry about."
Her eyes widened, and she held my hand. "Attacked? By who? Are you hurt?"
"I’m fine now," I said calmly. "Don’t worry about it."
But of course, she worried anyway. "We should go out together next time. I'm willing to follow you to school so you won't have to be alone in this kind of situation. I'm very strong and I can protect you."
I shook my head. "No, Lily. You should go to school. That’s what you’re supposed to be doing. Don’t start messing around just because of me. I’ll handle myself. Don’t worry."
She frowned but nodded slowly. "Alright… but promise me you’ll be careful."
I didn’t answer her promise, but I gave her a small smile to calm her down. After that, she finally left me alone to study. I couldn't risk having her around me at a time like this. People are despicable and they could do anything to get what they want. Lily is an Innocent girl and I don't want anything happening to her bright future.
I walked further into the house and soon noticed Agatha. She was back to working like a slave again, carrying a pile of laundry in her arms. I saw some of the servants around her laughing and mocking her openly, making rude comments as if she wasn’t nothing.
I hated scenes like these cuz the reminded me of when I used to suffer like this too. Even if it was my enemy, just couldn't stand people doing this to others. Thinking about it they are jobs at the same but they are doing this because she used to be a princess who ordered them around. Now, she was working with them which was embarrassing for her.
"Are you all done messing around with other people? You all have the same jobs but what you do is bully others. Do you have nothing to do? All of you, leave her alone and get back to your duties," I ordered sharply.
The servants froze when they saw me, then quickly bowed and walked away. Agatha dropped the laundry and glared at me.
"I didn’t ask for your help," she spat bitterly.
I sighed. "I don’t care if you asked or not. I wasn’t helping you because I cared about you. I just don’t like seeing stupidity. That’s all."
She made those same people bully me in the past and now she was going through the same thing with them. Life is full of irony, isn't it?
Her eyes narrowed as if she was trying to pierce through me. Then she smirked bitterly. "You should save your pity, Autumn. Your days are numbered anyway. You’ll die soon."
She said it with so much certainty, not like a simple insult, but like someone who actually knew something. This came as a perfect opportunity for me. I was almost killed yesterday anyway and two people had to be sacrificed for me. I stopped and turned back to face her properly.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked slowly.
Agatha smirked again, but this time I didn’t look away. Something in me told me she had just slipped up. This was an opportunity, and I wasn’t going to waste it. I needed to get information from her.
"You’re talking as if you know something," I said carefully. "Tell me, Agatha… are you saying this because you planned the rogues to attack me?"
Her face froze instantly. Her mouth parted slightly, her eyes going wide in shock. She wasn’t expecting me to say that.
So it was true.
I felt a bitter laugh escape my lips. "You look surprised. But you shouldn’t be. The letters I received clearly mentioned you. Don’t act like you’re smart when you’re this stupid, Agatha. Do you really think I wouldn’t connect this to you?"
Her silence said everything. She was too shocked to even deny it properly. I caught her. Threatening me with the same tricks when I already saw through her? The only person who would be doing something like this is none other than her.
