Chapter 16

Luke

I reluctantly left her alone in my room, after Alex linked me.

" It's better to be something important, Alex," I said through the link. He didn't respond to anything.

Walking through the hall, I reached the stairs. My mind went back into my room where I left her alone. I knew that she was afraid of me but never knew she would be horrified to even look at me.

Descending from the stairs, I saw Evelyn was in the living room chatting with my father happily.

" F*ck," a string of curses left my mouth, seeing her in my pack. If I didn't know my father I would have thought it was a coincidence.

Evelyn is the daughter of the neighbouring pack's beta. Beta Marcus is an amazing person and his fighting skills were well known. But given that she is a spoiled and bratty kid. I don't believe that we dated in the past. But it was there and she knew it too.

She is beautiful, but I have had enough of her when she tortured my pack members, especially Omaga. I had to put her in her place before I parted my way with her. After that incident, we hooked up a couple of times at the ball or at some parties, but it was nothing more than that.

" Luke," she said, seeing me and jumping up from the couch.

My father looked at me with a smirk on his face and I knew the reason very well. Her Alpha and the council members were all saying that I should choose her chosen mate. Because she is strong and, moreover, she is into me like no one else. While everyone runs away from saying I am a living monster walking on this earth.

" What are you doing here?" I asked coldly. Coming towards me, her steps faltered as she looked at me in disbelief.

" What do you mean, the day after tomorrow is the ball and you know I am going to come no matter what happens," she said.

" You know after the party," she said in a hushed tone, reminding me of everything we had done in the last couple of years. And I can tell that everyone has heard it.

" Fu*k it," i cursed in my head while the hunter growled loudly.

Thank the goddess that aurora isn't here or she would have erupted like lava by now. Aurora doesn't like Evelyn from the very beginning. She doesn't come into the pack house whenever she stays there. If she does, she will rip her head off.

" I am going to see how long you can keep that…" my father trailed off when I growled. Evelyn flicked away, looking at me in disbelief.

" Luke, I am going to your room. I need some rest," she said as she was walking past me. I grabbed her hand and stopped her from going any further. How dare she? I didn't even step a foot in my room into Scarlett was sitting there. Because it is the safest place for her to stay.

" You will be living in a guest room. And you are not allowed to go into my room,"I said in a low voice as my words held warning. She gulped, looking at me in fear.

" But wasn't I your… yours? Her words were cut off abruptly.

" Don't assume things on your own, or it will cause damage to your reputation and you don't want that," I said.

I let go of her hand and gave her a warning glare. Her eyes were welled up with tears but she held her head high. How could she cry in front of everyone being a beta's daughter?

" How are you going to stop the council from making her your bride? I will see how far you can go for a sl*t," she said.

Rage and fury took the best of me. Clenching my fists, I tried hard to control the hunter.

" Don't ever talk to your king like that or else….." I trailed off, not wanting to say the rest of the words. For a moment, I forgot that I was talking to my father.

" or else what? Don't stop there," he said, folding his arms in front of his chest.

" Both of you. Just stop already. You forget that you are royals who are behaving like rogues," my mother interrupted.

" If he likes her, then be it. She is going to change after he marks her scent," she added. My father looked at her and with a sigh he shook his head.

" You don't know," he said, before standing up from the couch and leaving the living room.

Standing there at the bottom of the stairs, I stared at his retreating figure in confusion.

" Alpha," Alex said, pulling me out of my trance.

" Something came for you," he informed me.

" What is it?" I asked.

" We don't know yet," he said.

Hearing him, I went towards my office and pushed the door open.

My eyes fell on the box that was placed on my desk. Looking at the box, I walked to my table.

" Did you know who sent it here?" I asked Alex, who came in after me.

" No. The box was found outside the pack house," he said.

Reaching for the box on the table, I slid it to me before opening it. The box contained a piece of paper and an envelope with dried roses scattered inside.

Furrowing my brows, I took the neatly folded paper and opened it,

" Let her go or you will see her suffer in front of you.

I will not stop until I destroy you through her.

I would never have thought that you were still going to find her,"

I clenched my teeth while the vein on my temple throbbed, controlling my anger. Alex took the paper from my hand and read it.

" Son of a bi**h," he cursed under his breath.

I took out the envelope and opened it and pulled out the contents, only to see pictures of Scarlett, which were taken in her home. There were plenty of pictures of her doing something and some of them were her sleeping.

I slammed my hand on the table, making it crack. Rage was pumping through me as my breath became rigid.

" Put them away," I said.

" Just don't destroy them," I added. I took a picture of her in a cream-coloured dress. She was smiling and looking happy.

I sighed, walking around. I sat down on my chair. The news travelled way faster than I imagined.

The rest of the day I was indulged with the mountains of files that were collected on my table. The only thing keeping my sanity was knowing that she was in my room. But that didn't help me from pacing back and forth in my mind.
