Chapter 17

Scarlett

The next day was as usual and surprisingly no one visited me. I found a few books that were placed on the table. It was the Harry Potter series. Taking the book, I went to bed and hopped up. Leaning back, I started reading. The book captivated me wholly and I didnt know how many hours passed until a soft knock came on the door.

Looking up, I waited for the person to come inside. The door creaked open and a girl in her early 20s came in with a food cart.

" Your Lunch," she said softly.

" Lunch?" I asked, looking towards the window and then at the clock, yup it was past one already.

" Thank you. Umm," I said, narrowing my eyes as if I didn't know her name.

" Jenna," she said.

" What a lovely name," I said, giving her a small smile.

" Thank you."

She pushed the cart towards the couch and began to prepare the food on the table. Looking at her, she was a beautiful girl with dark blonde hair and blue eyes. Her face was round and cute. Getting off of bed, I walked to the couch and sat down.

" Have you had your lunch?" I asked, looking at her. Finally, I have someone to talk to, other than the aurora.

" No," she said.

" Why?" I asked.

" Omegas aren't allowed to eat before everyone else," she explained. Her head was low as she was too focused on serving my food. My blood boiled at her words.

" That is ridiculous, if you ask me. Who are these people? Gods or what?" I asked . Folding my hand in front of my chest, I leaned back.

" Shhh," she shushed me.

" They could have heard you," she said, looking at the door and back at me. I realised that they could punish her because of words and my thoughts were back at the house where I didn't treat any of our maids like that and they used to love me.

" It's not their fault, you know. And to be honest, it is way since the ancient time our alpha king is not like that he ordered everyone to eat if one feels hungry and there is no need to wait for someone. But it was his father….." she trailed off, looking at me and then at the plate. She didn't have to explain the rest as I already figured out.

" Well, have lunch with me then," I said, looking at her hopefully.

Her hands flew to her mouth as she gasped loudly. Looking at me with her eyes wide open, she shook her head.

" Why not?" I asked.

" I don't want to hear no. And if you are afraid of anyone, then let me deal with them. I have been used to every kind of torture. Don't worry," I said. She looked at me with a sad look in her eyes, before she walked to me and sat down beside me.

" I am sorry I didn't mean to remind you of anything from your past," she said.

" Tsk, it was all there, no worries, I moved on," I said, and began to prepare a plate for her.

The food smells delicious enough to make my tummy rumble. I looked at the table and there was asparagus salad, roasted chicken, ravioli, noodles, mashed potatoes, stir fry, mixed vegetables and cheese cake.

" Wow," I breathed out, looking at the dishes.

" Are you sure it was just for me?" I asked.

" Coz it looked like a meal of 12 people," I added, earning a giggle from her.

" You will see him later," she said.

We ate while chatting comfortably with each other. She seemed like a nice girl. But I don't quite like these rules for omegas.

She told me about herself and how her parents were killed in an attack when she was 8 years old and her Grandma raised her. She told me she would like me to meet her grandmother.

" I would love that too, but only if I have permission to do that," I said.

" I heard the king will choose you to be his chosen mate," she informed him.

" What? A king? And what is this mate?" I asked, freaked out completely. I knew that he bought me from my father, but I never knew that he was a king.

" It's a rumour, basically," she said, cleaning the table.

" Will you be there tomorrow?" I asked.

" where? At the ball?" She asked, and I nodded my head.

" Yes, everyone must be present there," she said. I smiled.

" My birthday is coming. The day after the ball, but I am not excited anymore,"I said.

" why?"

" I had thought that I was going to escape from my house the day I turned 18. What? I just became a slave," I said, with a sad smile on my face.

" Oh dear, she was about to say something when the door opened with a bang, making us flinch at the sound. We both looked towards the door to see Luke's father standing at the door with a girl behind her. He glared at me and then at Jenna.

" Out now," he growled out. I wanted to roll my eyes at him for growling. I get it that they aren't humans, but that doesn't mean that they show off every time they talk.

" Yes," Jenna said before going out of the room in a hurry with the cart.

He walked inside with the girl trailing behind him.

" Don't think that I don't know what you are doing, girl," he said, his voice laced with mockery and disgust.

" Don't think that you can be his mate as long as I am here. By the way, this is Evelyn, Luke's bride to be," he informed. My gaze moved from him to the girl he introduced as Evelyn. She smirked at me.

" Evelyn," he said, and with that he left me alone with her. She came towards me with a smirk on her face.

" So, you are the new sl*t Luke bought?" She spat on my face. I couldn't dare to answer her.

" I have heard from you."

" Your father sold you for money," she added. Walking behind me. I hear her sitting down on the couch.

" Turn around, let me see what Luke saw in you," he laughed, saying that. Turning around, I looked at her. My eyes were void of any emotions, I felt ashamed under her judging gaze.

" Well, I don't see anything special."

" Tomorrow is the ball and that is where the council will arrive to tell him to mate with me to mark me to make me, his Luna, a powerful werewolf, not a bimbo," she spat with disgust.

" Once I get the title of the Luna and the queen, I will make him let you go and then…. She pauses getting up from the couch, walking closer to me.

" Then I will make you run inside of the forest where I am going to kill you. I am gonna make you cry, make you suffer for even thinking that you can have my place," she whispered loud enough for me to hear.

When she came and stood in front of me, I looked into her eyes, which were now turned amber and shuddered when my gaze fell on her hands, which were now turned into claws.

With her claws, she grabbed me by my chin and made me look at her.

" Don't dare to mention what happened in here, to anyone," she hissed, her tone full of warning. My chin hurts badly as she was putting on more pressure every passing second. Reluctantly, I nodded my head and she left my chin.

" Good, *," she said as she made her way out, slamming shut the door behind her. Tears spilled from my eyes.

I took a few steps back and stopped when my feet met with the couch. I fell on my knees as soft sobs escaped from my lips.

I sat on the floor leaning back on the couch, as I brought my knees to my chest and rested my head on them.

I cried until there was nothing left to go out. I didn't know how many hours had passed, but no one came in. When I climbed down, it was already dark outside as well as inside the room.

Only a dim light was illuminating a part of the room.

I stood up and walked to the glass window. I placed my hand on the glass, peering at the round and bright moon. I felt calm and somehow at peace looking up. With a sigh, I walked back to bed and got up. Facing the window, I laid down looking at the moon. My eyelids felt heavy and it seemed like the moon was lulling me to sleep.
