Chapter 63 The Millers. The Facade.
Chapter 63 The Millers. The Facade.
Author’s POV
Next Morning
“Pack your things. We are going home.”
Eva blinked slowly, her mind still heavy with sleep. She pushed herself up on the bed and squinted toward Rafael. He stood near the dresser, already dressed in a crisp black shirt, fastening his watch like nothing unusual had happened.
“Huh?” she murmured, her voice hoarse.
Rafael didn’t look at her immediately. “We’re leaving for Milan in one hour. Pack your bag and come to the hall.”
Eva rubbed her eyes, trying to process his words.
“Milan?” she repeated.
“Yes.”
She stared at him, searching his face for any hint that he was joking. “Just like that? Suddenly?”
Rafael slipped his gun into the holster at his waist. “Yes. Suddenly.”
Eva swung her legs off the bed. “Is everything… normal there?” she asked cautiously.
Rafael raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”
“I mean…” she hesitated, choosing her words carefully. “The war between you and your enemies… has it been settled?”
He bent down to wear his shoes.
“Yes.”
Eva didn’t feel reassured.
“Are you sure?” she pressed. “What if they attack again? What if someone tries something when we reach Milan?”
Rafael straightened and looked directly at her.
“They won’t.”
His confidence was unsettling.
Eva watched him for a moment before asking quietly, “And what about me?”
“What about you?” he replied.
“Where will I stay?”
For a few seconds Rafael remained silent. Then he spoke casually.
“I’m planning to drop you at your father’s mansion for a few days. Until everything is fixed at mine.”
Eva froze.
Her heart skipped.
“Wait… what?” she whispered.
Rafael glanced at her reaction.
“You heard me.”
Eva’s eyes widened with disbelief. “You’re serious?”
“Yes.”
A smile slowly spread across her face. “You’re really taking me to my father’s house?”
Rafael noticed the sudden brightness in her expression. It irritated him slightly.
“Yes,” he said flatly. “But I have a condition.”
The excitement in Eva’s eyes faded a little.
“What condition?” she asked cautiously.
Rafael walked closer until he stood in front of her.
“You will not abort the child.”
Eva stiffened.
“And if you do,” Rafael continued coldly, his voice dropping into a dangerous whisper, “I swear to God, Eva… I will fucking chop your entire family.”
Eva felt her throat go dry.
“Rafael…” she whispered.
“I’m serious.”
She swallowed hard and nodded quickly.
“I won’t,” she said. “I won’t abort the baby.”
Rafael studied her face.
“It’s also my child,” Eva added softly. “Even if… I was tricked into this pregnancy.”
Something flickered across Rafael’s expression, but it disappeared just as quickly.
“Good,” he said.
He turned to leave, but then stopped.
“And my second condition.”
Eva looked up again. “There’s more?”
“You will always answer my calls,” Rafael said. “The moment your phone rings.”
“And reply to my messages immediately.”
Eva blinked. “That’s it?”
“Yes.”
She nodded slowly. “Okay.”
Then she frowned.
“But… I don’t even have a phone anymore.”
Rafael tilted his head toward the bedside table.
“Look there.”
Eva turned.
Her eyes widened.
A brand new black iPhone lay neatly on the table.
She gasped and grabbed it.
“Oh my God…”
Her face lit up.
“Thank you so much, Rafael!”
Rafael watched her reaction without smiling.
“I’ll be waiting in the hallway,” he said before walking out.
The door closed behind him.
The moment he left, Eva let out a small laugh of disbelief.
“I’m finally going home…”
She turned the phone on eagerly.
But the moment the screen lit up, her smile disappeared.
Rafael’s picture filled the screen as the wallpaper.
“Ew,” she muttered under her breath.
She sighed and locked the phone.
“Of course.”
Still, the excitement of seeing her family again quickly pushed the thought away.
She jumped out of bed.
She needed to get ready.
Today she was finally leaving.
……
The helicopter blades roared loudly as Eva waved from the door.
Below, Maria stood with her daughter, waving back enthusiastically.
Eva’s smile grew wider.
Rafael, sitting across from her inside the helicopter, noticed it immediately.
She looked… happy.
Too happy.
When Eva’s eyes accidentally met his, her smile instantly disappeared.
Rafael leaned back slightly.
“What happened?” he asked.
“Nothing,” Eva replied quickly.
“Then why did you stop smiling?”
Eva looked out of the helicopter window.
“Oh… I don’t know.”
Rafael stared at her for a few seconds longer but didn’t press further.
…..
“Take your medicine on time,” Rafael said coldly.
“And don’t you dare disobey me, Eva.”
They were now inside the car.
Calo was driving through the large iron gates of the Miller territory.
Eva nodded silently.
Her hands trembled slightly in her lap.
Her heartbeat grew louder with every second.
The mansion was getting closer.
Closer.
Then she saw them.
Standing at the top of the staircase.
“Daddy…” she whispered.
Her father stood there, watching the car approach. Beside him stood Abram. Both men looked still. Cold. Dangerous. And waiting.
The car finally stopped and as soon as the door of the car was unlocked, Eva immediately got off the car.
“ “Daddy…” Eva whispered the moment she stepped out of the car.
She ran toward him and wrapped her arms tightly around him.
“Oh, Eva… my sweetheart,” Robert murmured, pulling her into his embrace.
The moment she felt his arms around her, Eva broke down. Tears streamed down her face as she clung to him.
“I missed you so much,” she cried.
Robert gently stroked her hair, holding her close. “Me too, sweetheart. I missed you too.”
Behind them, Rafael stepped out of the car. His gaze moved slowly toward Robert and Abram. Both men were already staring at him… cold, tense, and filled with barely hidden anger.
Rafael walked forward casually.
“Long time no see,” he said, extending his hand toward Robert.
Robert hesitated for a brief second before finally shaking it.
“How are you?” Robert asked stiffly.
“Doing excellently well,” Rafael replied smoothly, his eyes flicking toward Abram, who hadn’t even bothered to greet him.
“You should know,” Robert said firmly, “we had nothing to do with the attack on your family.”
Rafael slowly withdrew his hand.
“Yes, I know,” he said calmly. “I was quite relieved to learn that my wife’s family wasn’t involved.”
Then he glanced at Eva.
“By the way, Eva missed you a lot. I have some urgent work to handle, so I’m leaving her here for two or three days.”
Eva looked at him in surprise.
Rafael added casually, “I hope you take good care of my wife… especially since she’s carrying my child.”
Robert froze.
Rafael noticed the shock instantly.
“Oh… Eva,” Robert said slowly, turning to her. “Sweetheart… are you pregnant?”
He expected her to deny it.
But Eva simply nodded.
And learning the answer, Robert felt as if the ground had slipped from the under of his feet
But he didn’t react.
So he simply laughed.
“ Oh I am so happy for you guys,” Robert said sounding as if he was very much happy listening this news.
Rafael smirked knowing that it was only facade.
