Chapter 62 I Wanna Slap you so bad, Eva!
Author’s POV

“Eva!” Rafael screamed.

The phone slipped from his hand and crashed onto the ground, forgotten. Without wasting another second, Rafael ran across the dark backyard toward the van. The night air was thick, carrying a metallic scent that mixed with the damp smell of grass.

Another gunshot echoed through the silence.

Eva flinched.

“Done. It’s done,” Francesco announced calmly.

Rafael reached the van, breathing hard. His sharp eyes scanned the surroundings.

“There was one still alive,” Francesco added, lowering his gun.

Rafael’s gaze suddenly shifted toward Eva, who had stepped out of the house and was now standing a few meters away, staring at the van.

His expression hardened.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Eva?” Rafael snapped angrily.

Eva ignored the sharpness in his voice. Her eyes were fixed on the van.

“What is in the van?” she asked slowly.

“That’s none of your business,” Rafael replied coldly. “Let’s go back inside.”

He grabbed her wrist and started pulling her toward the mansion.

“Francesco, handle the chaos,” he ordered without even looking back.

But Eva resisted. She yanked her hand away.

“No,” she said firmly. “I want to see. What’s inside the van?”

Rafael stopped walking.

His jaw tightened.

“Eva…”

“Are those the Millers’ dead bodies?” she asked, her voice trembling slightly but her eyes unwavering.

Before she could move closer, Rafael grabbed her arm and pulled her roughly against his chest.

“You are not going there,” he growled. “And no…whatever you’re thinking is completely wrong.”

“Then let me check,” Eva insisted, looking straight into his eyes. “What’s wrong with checking it?”

For a moment, Rafael said nothing.

His jaw clenched harder.

“Fine,” he muttered darkly. “Then let’s make you check.”

Before Eva could react, Rafael grabbed her wrist again and dragged her toward the van.

“Look,” he ordered harshly.

The moment Eva came close, the strong metallic smell of blood hit her nose.

Her stomach twisted violently.

She immediately squeezed her eyes shut.

“Oh God…”

“Turn on the flashlights,” Rafael ordered.

Several beams of light flashed inside the van.

Eva slowly opened her eyes.

And then she saw it.

“Ahhh!” she screamed in horror.

The van was filled with bodies.

Dead bodies.

They were piled on top of each other like lifeless dolls. Blood soaked their clothes, dripping down the metal floor.

Eva staggered backward, but Rafael’s grip on her arm tightened, stopping her.

“Come on,” Rafael said coldly. “Inspect properly.”

His voice carried a cruel edge.

“See who is your daddy… and who is your brother.”

Eva’s horrified gaze landed on one corpse near the edge.

The man’s face was barely recognizable.

The right side of his jaw was completely blown off, exposing flesh and shattered bone.

Eva’s breath hitched.

“No…” she whispered.

Suddenly she ran to the side.

She dropped to her knees and vomited violently onto the grass.

Her body shook uncontrollably.

Rafael walked over to her slowly.

“Are you happy now?” he asked.

His voice was calmer now.

Eva didn’t answer.

She kept vomiting until there was nothing left in her stomach.

Her hands trembled as she tried to breathe.

“I… I didn’t…” she whispered weakly.

She couldn’t finish the sentence.

Her vision blurred as dizziness overtook her.

Finally, her body collapsed onto the ground.

Rafael caught her before her head hit the grass.

“Eva.”

She was barely conscious, trembling like a leaf in a storm.

Saliva dripped from the corner of her mouth.

Rafael sighed.

Carefully, he removed his T-shirt and wiped her mouth with it.

After cleaning her face, he tossed the saliva-stained shirt onto the lawn.

“Now let’s go,” he murmured.

Without another word, he lifted her into his arms in a bridal carry.

Eva weakly rested her head against his bare shoulder, her fingers clutching the fabric of his pants.

As Rafael began walking toward the mansion, he briefly passed the van again.

Eva shifted uneasily in his arms.

Noticing her discomfort, Rafael immediately turned away.

He took a longer route around the garden, avoiding the van completely.

Holding her tightly, he walked silently toward their bedroom.

—---

Rafael splashed cold water onto Eva’s face.

They were standing in the washroom, the bright lights making everything feel harsher. Water dripped down Eva’s cheeks as she blinked weakly, trying to regain her senses.

“Open your eyes,” Rafael said impatiently.

Eva slowly looked up at him.

Without saying anything further, Rafael grabbed her wrist and dragged her out of the washroom. He pushed her toward the bed.

“Sit,” he ordered.

Eva sank onto the edge of the bed, still pale and shaken.

Rafael stood a few steps away from her, his arms folded across his bare chest. His muscular frame looked even more intimidating under the dim bedroom lights. Dominance radiated from him as he stared down at her.

“Now tell me,” he said sharply, “what the fuck were you doing there?”

Eva swallowed and looked away.

“Nothing,” she replied quietly. “I was just watching what was happening.”

Rafael’s eyes narrowed.

“Watching?” he repeated. “Did you follow me there?”

Eva stayed silent for a few seconds. The silence only made his anger grow stronger.

Finally she spoke.

“Yes,” she admitted softly. “I followed you.”

Rafael clenched his jaw tightly. His hands curled into fists before he ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.

“What should I even do with you, Eva?” he muttered angrily.

He turned toward her again, his eyes blazing.

“I swear, I want to slap you so badly for this stupidity.”

Eva slowly lifted her head and looked straight at him. There was anger in her eyes now.

“Then do it,” she said coldly. “What’s left anymore?”

For a moment Rafael just stared at her.

Then he turned away abruptly and began pacing across the bedroom, trying to calm the storm inside him.

“Don’t,” he muttered under his breath. “Don’t do this, Eva.”

He stopped and pointed a warning finger in her direction.

“You wouldn’t be able to handle my anger.”

Eva let out a bitter laugh.

“Oh really?” she said. “What more can you do? Slit my throat? Physically abuse me? Verbally abuse me?”

Rafael froze.

His back was facing her, but his shoulders had gone rigid.

“That’s the limit of a monster like you, isn’t it?” she continued.

The next second…

“Ayy!” Rafael roared.

His shout was so loud that the entire bedroom echoed with it.

Eva flinched instantly.

Her heart started pounding violently in her chest.

“Just get the fuck to sleep,” Rafael snapped furiously. “You stupid Eva.”

The fear in his voice this time was real.

For the first time since knowing him, Eva truly felt afraid.

Without arguing further, she quickly climbed onto the bed.

She pulled the blanket over herself, covering her entire body…right up to her head.

Rafael watched her silently, his eyes still burning with anger.

After a moment, he shook his head in frustration.

“Stupid woman,” he muttered under his breath.
