Chapter 61 The Answers. The Chaos.
Chapter 61 The Answers. The Chaos.
Author’s POV,
“How could you do this to me, Rafael?” Eva’s voice trembled, her hands shaking as she held the medical reports. “It’s… it’s so wrong.”
Rafael’s facial expression cold and unreadable. The dim light of the room fell across his face, making him look even more distant.
“Wrong?” he repeated slowly. “You’re talking about wrong?”
“Yes!” Eva snapped, tears gathering in her eyes. “You replaced my medicine. You tricked me into getting pregnant. Do you even realize what you’ve done?”
Rafael crossed his arms. “It was also wrong to take contraceptive pills behind my back, Eva.”
Eva stared at him in disbelief. “Behind your back? Rafael, it’s my body!”
“And I am your husband,” he replied calmly. “Don’t forget that.”
“That doesn’t give you the right to control my life!” she shouted. “I could have been pregnant, Rafael. Do you understand that? I just… I wasn’t ready yet.”
Rafael’s eyes narrowed slightly. “You weren’t ready… or you didn’t want my child at all?”
Eva’s lips parted in shock. “How dare you say that?”
“Answer me,” Rafael demanded.
“I wanted a child,” she said, her voice breaking. “But after some months. After we understood each other better. After I felt safe.” She wiped her tears angrily. “Not like this. Not because you manipulated me.”
For a moment, Rafael said nothing.
“You betrayed me,” Eva continued, her voice trembling with hurt. “You lied to me. You….”
“I didn’t betray you,” Rafael interrupted sharply.
Eva laughed bitterly. “Oh really? Then what do you call secretly changing my pills?”
“I call it protecting what is mine.”
Her eyes widened in disbelief.
“You wanted to betray me first,” Rafael said coldly. “You tried to prevent my heir from existing.”
“I wasn’t preventing anything!” Eva cried. “I just needed time!”
“And I didn’t,” Rafael replied flatly.
The silence that followed was heavy.
Eva looked at him as if she was seeing a stranger.
“You’re unbelievable,” she whispered. “You think a child is some kind of… property? Something you can force into existence?”
Rafael walked closer to her, his expression dark.
“This marriage happened for a reason, Eva,” he said quietly. “You knew that from the beginning.”
“I knew we were married,” she shot back. “I didn’t know I was marrying a monster.”
Rafael’s jaw tightened.
“You are so cheap, Rafael,” Eva said, her voice shaking with rage. “You’re such a monster.”
For a second, the room felt suffocatingly silent.
Rafael stopped mid-step as if her words had struck something deep. Slowly, he turned his head and looked at her.
Eva was crying uncontrollably now, her shoulders trembling.
But Rafael’s face remained expressionless.
Without saying another word, he turned and walked into the washroom, closing the door behind him as if her tears meant nothing.
Eva stood frozen for a moment.
Then anger and helplessness overwhelmed her. She threw the reports onto the floor.
“Why…” she whispered brokenly. “Why did you do this…”
She collapsed onto the bed, exhaustion replacing her anger. Her chest felt heavy, as if the weight of the entire world was pressing down on her.
For the first time, she felt completely powerless.
As if she had no right to decide what happened to her own body.
She had become pregnant… without her choice.
Tears continued slipping from her eyes as she curled slightly on the bed. Slowly, sleep consumed her.
Some time later, Rafael walked back into the bedroom.
His gaze immediately fell on the papers scattered across the floor.
He picked them up silently and placed them on the table.
Then he looked at Eva.
She was sleeping, but dried tears still marked her cheeks.
Rafael stood there for a moment before quietly sliding into the bed beside her. He pulled her gently into his arms.
With his thumb, he wiped the remaining tear from her cheek.
For a brief moment, something softer crossed his face.
He leaned down and placed a lingering kiss on her forehead.
“Good night,” he murmured.
Soon, sleep overtook him as well.
In the middle of the night, Rafael’s phone suddenly buzzed.
His eyes opened instantly.
Carefully, he reached for the phone on the bedside table and checked the caller ID.
Kris Romano.
Rafael answered immediately.
“Speak.”
“I did what you asked,” Kris’s tense voice came from the other side. “The dead bodies will reach Francisco’s mansion soon. Please… release my daughter now.”
Rafael’s gaze drifted toward Eva, who was still sleeping beside him.
“Hmm,” he said calmly. “Good.”
“Rafael, please,” Kris pleaded. “You promised… ”
“I will release her,” Rafael interrupted coldly, “only after I see the bodies with my own eyes.”
Before Kris could say anything else, Rafael ended the call.
Just then, another message appeared on his screen.
He opened it.
Come to the backyard. Kris’s presents are here.
Rafael slowly moved Eva away from his arms so he wouldn’t wake her.
He stood up quietly and walked toward the door.
Without making a single sound, Rafael stepped out of the bedroom and disappeared into the dark hallway.
—---
The night was dark. Only a few dim lights lit the vast backyard of the mansion. Long shadows of the towering trees stretched across the damp grass, swaying slightly with the cold breeze. The silence of the night felt heavy.
Through that darkness, Rafael walked calmly toward a parked mini van.
Francesco and his men were already waiting there.
“Did he send it?” Rafael asked the moment he arrived.
“Yes,” Francesco replied shortly. Then he turned to one of his men. “Now.”
The man stepped forward and slowly opened the door of the mini van.
A thick metallic smell of blood instantly spread into the air.
Inside the van were bodies. Many of them. Lifeless. Piled over each other like discarded objects. Blood had dried on their clothes and skin.
Rafael stared at them.
Then he smiled.
At that exact moment, his phone rang. He answered it without taking his eyes off the van.
“Did you see it?” Kris’s voice asked from the other side.
“Yes,” Rafael replied coldly.
“Then release my daughter,” Kris demanded.
Rafael’s eyes narrowed slightly. “What about Milan? Did you remove your men from there?”
“It’s clean,” Kris replied. “I killed everyone who was trouble for you.”
“Wait,” Rafael said quietly. “I’ll call you back.”
He disconnected the call and turned to Francesco.
“Check each body.”
Then Rafael walked a few steps away and dialed another number.
“Boss?” Calo answered.
“Kris said Milan has been cleaned.”
“Yes, boss. I’m checking too,” Calo replied cautiously. “But I think something is~”
A gunshot suddenly exploded through the night.
Rafael instantly turned around.
One of Francesco’s men collapsed to the ground.
And standing several meters away..
Eva.
“Eva…” Rafael murmured in disbelief.
Before he could move..
Three more gunshots tore through the silence.
Eva’s scream shattered the night.
“Ahhhhh!”
