Chapter 60: The Exchanged OCPs' Revelation

Author’s POV,

Eva sat quietly in the back seat of the car and looked out of the window. The road was moving fast outside, but her mind was stuck in the same place. Too many thoughts were fighting inside her head.

Her eyes slowly moved down to the medical reports lying on her lap.

Today the doctor had confirmed it again.

She was pregnant.

Eva held the papers tightly. Her hands felt cold.

She had even asked the doctor one question again and again.

How could this happen?

She clearly remembered taking contraceptive pills every day. She had been very careful. She never missed a dose.

So how did she get pregnant?

Her mind went back to the conversation she had with the obstetrician earlier that day.

\---

Eva was sitting in the doctor’s office, feeling nervous. The obstetrician was checking her reports carefully.

“Doctor… are you sure about this?” Eva asked slowly.

The doctor looked at her and gave a small smile.

“Yes,” she said calmly. “Your pregnancy test is positive. You are pregnant.”

Eva felt her throat go dry.

“But… that is not possible,” Eva said quickly. “I was taking contraceptive pills.”

The doctor looked a little confused.

“Contraceptive pills?” she repeated.

“Yes,” Eva said. “Oral contraceptive pills. I have been taking them for months.”

The doctor looked back at the lab reports.

“Hmm… that is strange,” she murmured.

Eva leaned forward nervously.

“What do you mean strange?”

The doctor turned the report toward her.

“These blood tests show that there are no signs of contraceptive pills in your body.”

Eva frowned.

“What?”

The doctor explained gently, “Usually when someone takes OCPs, some hormonal changes appear in blood tests. But your tests don’t show that.”

Eva stared at the report.

“That can’t be right,” she whispered.

The doctor turned another page.

“Actually, your reports show something else.”

Eva looked up.

“What?”

“You have been taking folic acid regularly,” the doctor said.

Eva blinked in confusion.

“Folic acid?”

“Yes,” the doctor nodded. “Women usually take folic acid when they are planning to get pregnant.”

Eva’s heart skipped a beat.

“Planning… pregnancy?” she asked slowly.

The doctor nodded again.

“Yes. Your reports show that your body already had good folic acid levels. It looks like your pregnancy was planned.”

Eva felt shocked.

Because she knew the truth.

She had never taken folic acid.

Never.

\---

Back in the car, Eva stared at the reports again.

She clearly remembered bringing only one bottle of medicine from her home.

Her contraceptive pills.

She had kept that bottle in the cupboard of her bedroom.

Then suddenly a thought came to her mind.

Was my medicine exchanged?

Her heart started beating faster.

If the medicine was changed… then who did it?

Laila?

Rina?

But Laila was the only one who sometimes came to her bedroom. And Eva remembered clearly that Laila never opened the cupboard.

Slowly… another thought came into her mind.

Rafael.

Eva felt her stomach tighten.

Did Rafael change the medicine?

If he did… then this pregnancy was not an accident.

It was planned.

By him.

Eva took a deep breath.

She would ask him tonight.

Directly.

“Eva?” Maria suddenly spoke.

Eva looked at her.

“What happened?” Maria asked with concern. “You have been very quiet.”

Eva shook her head.

“Nothing.”

Maria didn’t look convinced.

“You don’t look okay,” she said. “Did the doctor say something serious?”

Eva forced a small smile.

“No. I’m fine.”

Maria looked at her carefully.

“You look upset.”

Eva looked down at her hands.

“I’m not upset,” she said softly. “Just… overwhelmed.”

Maria smiled kindly.

“That’s normal,” she said. “You just got big news today.”

Eva didn’t reply.

Maria continued, “Do you want to eat something when we reach home?”

Eva shook her head again.

“No. I just want to rest.”

“Okay,” Maria said gently. “We will reach the mansion soon.”

After that, the rest of the journey was silent.

\---

Later that night, Rafael entered the bedroom.

The room was dark.

He stopped at the door and looked around.

“Eva…”

His eyes soon found her on the bed.

She was lying there.

Sleeping.

A small smile appeared on Rafael’s face.

He quietly closed the door and removed his coat. He placed it on the sofa and started removing his wristwatch.

Just then, Eva slowly sat up on the bed.

Her hair was loose around her shoulders.

“I visited an obstetrician today,” she said quietly.

Rafael turned and looked at her.

“What?” he asked.

“I visited an obstetrician today,” Eva repeated.

“Oh,” Rafael said. “When?”

“At noon.”

Her voice sounded heavy, like she had cried earlier.

Rafael walked closer to the bed.

“What did she say?” he asked.

Eva picked up the medical reports from the bed and held them out to him.

“The reports are here,” she said quietly. “ With these reports it's confirmed that I am pregnant, Rafael,” She added and Rafael read the reports. He smiled.

“Who exchanged my medicine, Rafael?” Eva asked. Her voice was calm, but her eyes were sharp. She looked straight at him.

Rafael met her gaze.

“I brought oral contraceptive pills from my home,” she continued slowly. “So tell me… who replaced them with folic acid?”

For a moment the room was silent.

Then Rafael smirked.

“Me.”

The word fell cold and heavy between them. Eva’s breath caught.

“What?” she whispered, disbelief filling her voice. “You… did that?”Her eyes quickly filled with tears.

“Why?” she asked, her voice shaking. Rafael’s expression didn’t change.

“I already told you before,” he said coldly. “This marriage happened for one reason only…. an heir.” Eva stared at him, unable to speak.

“If the agreement with the Miller family didn’t include the clause about producing an heir,” Rafael continued calmly, “I wouldn’t have even looked at you. I would have destroyed the Millers long ago.” Eva felt like the ground disappeared beneath her feet.

“You…” she whispered, hurt and shock mixing in her voice. Rafael stepped closer.

“Your medicine was replaced the very first day you entered my bedroom,” he said. “Your luggage, bags, and purse were all checked before they reached my room.” Eva’s hands trembled.

“That’s when I found the contraceptive pills,” Rafael finished coldly. “So I replaced them with folic acid.”

The revelation shattered her.
