Chapter 168
Next morning
The loud bang on the door forced the guard in charge to quickly run to the gate. He needed to know who dared to bang the gate so loudly so early in the morning.
"Can you just stop knocking already? I'm there already," the guard said.
"Hell no! I will continue knocking till you come to the gate!" Michael blurted.
The guard finally opened the gate.
"Who are you? And how dare you bang on the gate so hard? Does this look like your parents' house?" the guard jibbered, giggling.
"Yes, this is my father's house, and I have the right to knock however I like; you don't tell me what to do!" Daniel said from behind.
"I'm sorry, my prince; I didn't know it was you."
"Obviously, you wouldn't know because you are blind! You even asked us to leave; you asked the prince to leave his own house. Do you want me to report it to the alpha?" Sonia smirked rudely.
Well, like they planned, they tagged her along, but their dad refused to let them leave their mom behind. She's already too old for such drama; talking to her will make no difference, so what's the need for her to stress herself?
"Please, ma'am, I'm so sorry; I didn't mean for it to happen. I thought it was some random guy. Please, don't tell him. I don't want to get on his bad side!"
"Same way you shouldn't get on mine!" Daniel chuckled.
"I won't, my prince; please don't tell the alpha about it."
"Why not? I won't tell him, only on one condition," Sonia chipped in.
"What's that? Please don't make a hard request; I'm only a guard here, and I don't want to lose my job."
"It's okay; your job is safe. It's just a simple task, and I'm even going to pay you for it," Bethel added.
"Fine, what is it?" They all smirked.
"My lord, the young prince is here," a guard announced.
"Did he come alone?" Darien asked the guard, who quickly shook his head.
"No, he came with some other people: two ladies and a young man." He needed no one to tell him who they were; their coming wasn't bad, but who knows what they came for? What could make them all come to the castle this early in the morning?
"Or have they heard that Alisha is alive?" he asked no one in particular.
"My lord, what did you say?" the guard asked him.
"Nothing, don't worry. Just send them in. I'll come down shortly to meet them. Tell them that, and also tell the maids to get them whatever they would be needing," he instructed.
"Yes, my lord. I will leave now," the guard said before departing.
He stood up and picked the letter from where he previously dropped it, then hid it under his bed.
"The alpha will be here shortly," the guard announced.
"Why didn't he follow you out? He shouldn't keep us waiting; we've got no time to waste!" Sonia jibbered rudely.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, but he needs to dress up. Remember, it's still very early for visits. I'm even shocked he's willing to attend to you people."
"What's too early? And why shouldn't he attend to us? Do you think he will dare to ignore us here? And mind your tone if you don't want to get fired!" she jibbered further.
"And who are you to tell me what and what not to do? You can't just come here and order me around!"
"How dare you talk to my aunty in that manner?" Daniel stepped out from the kitchen, holding a bottle of juice.
"I'm sorry, my prince; I didn't know she was your aunty. Please forgive me."
"I've only been gone for a few days, and you people no longer regard me? I can see my father has done it again!"
"Wait, what? He didn't do anything," the guard defended.
"Yeah, I did something. Go ahead and blame me; it's what my father prefers."
"What's going on here?" Darien walked in, dressed in his nightwear.
"Talk of the devil!" Sonia rolled her eyes.
"Good morning," he greeted, ignoring her remark. He had to greet first, knowing so well that none of them was willing to greet.
"You are here; I thought you would stay there till God knows when," Sonia rolled her eyes.
"You don't always have to show off your bad character. I thought the pregnancy would change you, but it only worsened your bad behavior!"
"Don't you dare insult me! I don't care if you are the alpha or not," Darien chuckled, then turned to face Michael.
"What do I owe you? You came this early; did anything happen?" he asked as he took his seat.
"What could be worse than what already is? Actually, we didn't come here for you; we came because of something else."
"Daniel, didn't you see me? You've been looking at me like a stranger. Did I do anything wrong?"
"Don't ask me, just please leave me be."
"Tell me, did I do anything wrong? If I did, tell me so I could apologize."
"You forgot the day you slapped me because of that woman? You didn't even allow me to explain! If not for Mom, you would have slapped me a second time. Please, Dad, don't talk to me again. Now that Mommy is not here, just leave me be!"
"Don't be mad at your dad. You know everything that happened wasn't my fault. You know I will never intentionally slap you; please don't be mad at me."
"There's no way I will stop being mad at you till you provide for my mom. How do you expect me to be happy when she's gone? Now the kids at school are going to call me motherless; they will insult me, and there's no one to fight back. I don't want to have anything to do with you ever again."
"You know, sometimes I wonder if you are truly six, because sometimes you talk so maturely that I have to pause to rethink your age."
"I'm not six! You see what I've been saying? You don't even know my age; I'm eight! I'm no longer six; I was six two years ago!" he snapped angrily.
