Chapter 163

I know there's nothing I can do to make you forgive me, but you should at least hear me out. It's fine if you won't let me speak; I've always known you hate me. You've been looking for a perfect opportunity to separate Alisha and me. Now that it has come to this, I need you to understand that I love her; I've always loved her. But I'm not like you; I wasn't fortunate enough like you to find my mate. Unlike you, who got the chance to perceive your mate, my case was different. Only recently did I get mine. So tell me, how do you expect a werewolf with a wolf to have emotions? Everything I did then, I only did because I thought it was the best way to display love to a woman. All I cared about was to dominate; I wanted a submissive. I never knew if it was the best or not. I'm not telling you this to gain your sympathy or anything; I just need you to understand what happened and stop tagging me as bad. I'm not bad," Michael scoffed.

"Then what about Sandra lady? Are you also telling me you have no business with her?"

"First, I've never had the intention of settling with Sandra. She's only a friend to me. I knew she wanted more than being just friends, but I never knew she would go as far as doing what she did. From the first time, I knew how it happened; I just found myself taking orders from her like a puppet!"

"How can her charm work on you? You just told me you've gotten your wolf," Michael told him, his voice no longer sounding angry or pissed. He had calmed down slightly, at least to listen to his explanations.

"Yeah, I have my wolf now, but you should know it takes time to get along with one's wolf. Mine is different from the rest; I need to take time to study what he likes and doesn't like. And you know I haven't had time to do that since we got back together. From facing my stepbrother and his mom to searching for my dad, I haven't had time to have a one-on-one conversation with her. He just leaves me to do however I please. Even if you don't forgive me, then it should be for not taking proper care of her. I will never collude with anyone to kill my own mate; I will be the one to suffer. You know what it feels like to lose a mate. Even if you don't love your mate, once he or she passes away, you know what it feels like to suffer from the mate bond. You are only going to stay alive and wish you were dead. So give me one reason I should kill my mate and the mother of my son?" Michael stared at him, looking speechless and defeated.

Michael is the type who's not easily convinced. His hatred for Darien had started way before he knew him, so convincing him to change his perspective wouldn't be an easy task; neither would it be a day's work.

"I've heard what you said; I guess I should get going. I need to be somewhere in town in minutes," Michael turned, and without sparing him another glance, he walked off.

Darien continued staring at him until he was out of sight, then he shook his head. At least he's gotten the huge burden out of his mind. He's always wanted to explain this to each and every one of them who hated him. He badly wants to tell them it wasn't his fault, but only if they would listen to him.

After getting the food for his dad, he returned to the hospital.

He did the usual rhythm of feeding and bathing him, then helped him sit back on his bed.

"Why are you making me sit? Let's just go take a stroll outside. Don't worry, I have the strength; you don't need to worry about me not being strong enough," he told Darien.

At first, Darien wanted to object, but the nurse who brought in his medication told him it was no big deal and that the old guy had been doing it himself for a while now in his absence.

Darien then led him out like the nurse instructed to a garden.

"I've been meaning to ask you this..." he paused.

"What's that?"

"Would you in any way doubt it if you were told that Henry isn't your brother?" Darien's eyes widened. Why would he ask such a question? Henry has always been his stepbrother.

"No, I won't believe that. He's also your son, just like I am."

"Well, I'd always thought so until that very day; I couldn't believe it myself."

Flashback

"You need to be very careful, Emily. I think he's suspecting you. Henry has grown up to look so much like his father, the man whom you told him is your brother. If you don't do something now, he might find out one day and might decide to throw you and your son out," Lisa, Emily's sister, said.

"You don't have to worry about anything; I have the alpha wrapped around my fingers. He won't even think of it. You know I made sure he woke up to find me in his bed that morning."

"You are sure a bad girl then! I can't believe you turned from being a maid to a queen just by getting him drunk and then leading him to your bed. Then you told him you were pregnant; he had no choice but to marry you. His wife is just a dumbass who thinks she can get you under her control. I like the way you ended her; you placed her where she belongs—six feet beneath!"

"Yeah, he thinks his wife's death is just a natural death. What a dumb wolf!" Emily blurted.
