37. All I Wanted

37. All I Wanted
Cassius Pov

The idea of moving up to not necessarily the north, but not the south and establishing homes and cabins sounded like a great idea and something that was right up my alley. Though the idea of establishing a pack sounded overwhelming. I could see how that could be something of challenge for Sol.

It wasn’t like she had a bunch of people from her old pack that survived like her father thought she would in the note he left her. But building a pack entirely wolves you trust was not necessarily a bad thing. I had seen my sister’s new spouse. Benjamin destroy his pack, and there was none above the age of 18 that survived. He had them all killed. They were very loyal to their Alpha and Luna, and with them gone, they refused to bow to someone who would get rid of them.

The only adults that stayed were those who sided with Benjamin, who had been poisoned by my sister. It had been endearing seeing them, refused to swear to someone who would destroy what they loved, even I had to admit that was serious loyalty. I knew the pack was loyal to their Alpha and Luna and it seemed they would die before they conceded to a new way. It was a loyalty I had never seen before, and it was clear that that’s what Sol’s father Alpha Cade wanted her to establish a pack with loyalty like that.

“It is not going to be easy, and I don’t know what it would do to Kimi. You can probably tell she isn’t in a good way. Then Quientin he likes people; he can’t just go live in the woods away from the world with only me for company. Then there is you, you're not even a part of this pack, and now I have to go establish something?” She spoke. We talked about this this morning. I didn’t know why she was getting so upset over me not being an official member. And why did she think she was giving up anything. I thought it was kind of fortunate she had all this land to do with us she pleased.

“Your cousin is a people person as you said I’ll agree with that. Why don’t you just have him do the recruiting and bring you rogues he likes and thinks are trustworthy and not insane. Though I doubt there’s that many ones I’ve come across over horrible.” I said. “You really think this is a good idea?” Sol asked, looking at me for some guidance. I knew it didn’t sound that horrible to me. In fact, it sounded like my dream.

I was surprised it seems like the more I spent with this group the more things were going right for me. Their own place that sounded nice, if it wasn’t too far removed from civilization and not in the frigid north. I didn’t think it would be all that bad at all. I found it rather exciting, and I would be more than happy to help. I had to fight my own smile how ridiculous I sounded in my head. I was willing to help them and be a part of something. I may not want to be part of a pack that was true but building something like that had been a dream of mine.

“Sol, think about it, would it really be that bad to have your own land that you own that you know no one can come on. A house you built with your own two hands. Then also people you trust inherently that will die rather than go against you even if you’re gone.? Complete loyalty isn’t that what an Alpha wants? And I know you don’t want to bring this up, but you’ll have no expectations going into it. It’s not like with your last pack where they expected you to be perfect all the time. Where you thought you had to be perfect, but you didn’t, but the people coming in we have absolutely no expectations they will just be grateful as outcasts.”

“And maybe yeah you don’t want to leave school but what were you going to do with your degree honestly, you were going to run a pack, and this is just making it, so you don’t have expectations. You can do it totally different if you want, you can completely merge modern with old. And as for me I told you I agreed to be your mate and be with you so I don’t know why you don’t think you couldn’t count on me?” The possibilities were swirling in my head of all the things we could do all the techniques I wanted to try for living off the land, and this was the perfect opportunity.

“Why can I count on you? "She yelled and continued to do so. “Because you haven’t shared anything about yourself other than you have a witch who’s your sister who I am starting to think was responsible for all this. The fact you don’t want to share anything about yourself, only leads me to believe that I can’t trust you.” I stared at her my eyes going big. I was off planning the beginning of a new life with so much excitement and enthusiasm, and she was having an internal debate.

I couldn’t help but laugh at ridiculous of this situation. I never wanted to pack. I wanted to live alone, and off the land never have a mate. Now I was made with someone who was giving me exactly the kind of life I want. It was funny and she was thinking she couldn’t trust me. Maybe she couldn’t but it was funny to me because it’s everything I wanted minus the mate part but if I had to pick someone who was my destiny, it would be her. It was funny and I couldn’t help laugh.

“Why are you laughing?” She screamed but only made me laugh more. “You should probably go tell Kimi and Quientin that we’re going to be packing up. And tell Quientin that you both will be dropping out. The offices open back up on Monday. As for learning about me, that will happen in time.” I said before standing up and heading to the door. I would tell Sol my history and life story at some point. I knew I would have to, but not now. I needed time to prove myself. She was too hesitant about me already. If she knew my past, I would be dead before I could even redeem myself.

“You can’t boss me around?” She snapped at me; I turned to looked at her. “You are totally right I can't. But we both know you will do as your father commanded. So, what is the point of pretending otherwise?” I said making my way to the door. “Where the fuck are you going?” I turned to her. “I was supposed to get a grill but now I have other things that I will need to get.” Then I walked out shutting the door behind me.
