38. This Could Work

I had no clue why Cassius was so excited at the prospect of going and setting up a whole new pack establishing a place to live recruiting rogues to join us. It made no sense. He didn’t want to be part of pack. He said as much. Yet here he was being all excited to go. It was weird. He had made sense though saying that I was in college to learn, but I knew I’d never do anything more than being an alpha. I needed to talk to Quientin and Kimi.
As far as Quientin knew, all that had happened in that meeting was, I was given a lot of money and a lot of land. I thought there would be more to the meeting than that something about the old Pack land, but apparently the lawyer went over that it was under a business name where the new land was under my name and once I had children, I’d need to get papers drawn up that would protect it to be passed on. It was good that I brought Quientin with me. He was good at that kind of stuff though he had not graduated college. He had been well trained to manage that kind of thing.
I wondered what my mother would have said had she known that this is what my father did. Had he expected to die? I knew for a fact; he hadn’t been expecting that our pack would turn on itself that it wouldn’t be an outside attack that it would be from within. Maybe this wasn’t a disaster like I thought it was maybe Cassius was right and this was an opportunity.
I decided I would talk to Kimi and Quientin tomorrow about the plans. For the evening I just wanted to stay in my room. I didn’t want to eat. I didn’t want to be around anyone. I just wanted to think about how I felt betrayed and blindsided. I needed to get over those emotions before I address the small Blood Born Pack. They needed to see someone strong even if they knew me in my whole life. I didn’t need them thinking that I was making a bad decision.
I tried to comfort myself with the thoughts that I would just be able to hunt and mostly be in my wolf form. I would instead of building tents like my mother had grown up in and Kimi; we would build log cabins, something more durable and maybe Cassius was right we could mix the old and the new the property. My father had purchased land that was rather good. There was water on the property as well as it was close enough to town, but not too close. We could have the Internet out there we could have modern luxury without it Interfering with our way of life.
We could retain this place, and even maybe we could encourage more of the future wolves and the young to go to college away from the pack, they would learn skills living amongst the humans. I began to think of the possibilities. Cassius was right this wasn’t something necessarily bad, it could be good. I was just looking at it the wrong way.
Cassius said he would at some point share about his life, he didn’t say when but the fact he would was a good indication. I needed that. Even with all these revelations that were coming to me I still had this lingering feeling that whoever had taken over our pack was not done. Maybe there was going to be another war? I really hoped not. I hoped that this land was an opportunity for fresh start and that everyone could leave us alone.
I started to envision it taking some of the old things we did and building something completely new. My father had done it. His pack was larger when he started recruiting others, but he did it, and I could do it too, and the best part is none of these people would have expectations of me they would have just expectations of a pack.
I tried to formulate a plan in my mind how I would recruit obviously I would leave that up to Quientin and maybe we could go back to searching for mates how the north did it where the men would go out and search for their mates except since we were growing, they could bring them back. Yes, that would be good. I thought we could teach them all from the very beginning those born into the pack to hunt and fish it wouldn’t be like how my mother had to do it.
When she was teaching people the ways of how to live as a proper wolf, she usually had to teach adults who were joining our pack. The kids were trained. Those who had been born since she lived there got trained, and it was a new generation, but most of those now would be losing these traditions. Well, I assume that I didn’t 100% know I didn’t know how long we’d be able to stay under the radar but the longer the better. Not being a big size would not be a threat to anyone.
We could do this I could do this. No one would expect anything for me. I thought back to what Quientin had told me that that girl he liked she didn’t know who we were. If that was the case for everyone then this could really work. No one would see us as a threat. We could build our numbers.
The thing that needed to be figured out most of all was the money, the lawyer was handing those investments, and I didn’t plan a change companies. My father picked well so my wealth would only keep growing. I could support a pack on that money and most of the homes and things would be taken from the land we’d have to pay for electricity and plumbing. There was a lot to work through, but all of that could be handled. The biggest question was what was Cassius to me now?
He obviously was my mate, but what did that exactly mean? He wasn’t part of the Blood Borne Pack he’d been clear about that, but he also brought up with my mother did and he was right she hadn’t officially joined the pack for a long time. She did keep her link with her the north until they started coming down in the war if he didn’t want to join, he would be missing out on some power, but to me that wasn’t so bad.
I didn’t need a counterpart to help run things he would just be my company. I guess like what we were creating it would be a new form of mate bond partnership. I’d have to have a talk with him. I don’t know how to explain that relationship to the rogues that would be joining with us. Then there was what they would think about having a female Alpha. I wondered if that would stop them from joining. But all that could wait, I realized. We needed to have people join, then I could worry about those trivialities.
