Chapter 51 Chapter 51
Chapter 51
Iris POV
"If this is a prank, please stop it." I said, already getting tired of his jokes.
"I'm serious, if you want I can take you to see her." He offered.
"Yes, let's go see her. You obviously don't know what you are saying, how can you say Vickie is dead." I almost yelled at him but held back when Darius squeezed my hand.
"You said you were going to handle it well." He muttered.
"You... know about this too right?" I stuttered out.
Of course he does, his facial expression already told me everything I need to know. That is why he didn't want me to come to the hospital to see her, that is why he asked me to promise him to handle it well.
That is why he kept telling me not to freak out in the car. No, Vickie can't be dead. I refuse to believe this is true, it has to be a lie.
"Take me to her please." I begged, tears already streaming down my face.
"Iris, I don't think you should." Darius said.
"No." I shook my head. "I have to see her, I need to confirm it with my own eyes."
"Let's go then, I will take you to the room she is in." The doctor declared. I nodded my head, wiped my tears and stood up. Darius stood up too, still holding my hand as we followed the doctor to the room she was in.
I could barely even feel my legs during the walk but I knew I was walking. Finally we got to the room and I noticed there was only one bed in there with something wrapped in a cover.
"Do...n't tell me that's Vickie." I forcefully freed my hand from Darius and ran closer to the bed. Opening the cover to be horrified.
It was indeed Vickie, she is truly dead. No, this can't be happening.
"Plea...se Vickie, come back. You can't leave me." I cried out, trying to shake her body awake.
"Wake her up, Doctor. It's your job isn't it. Do something please." I begged.
"I'm sorry but we already tried our best." The doctor replied.
"Bullshit!" I shouted.
"Hey, hey it's okay. Calm down Iris." Darius said as he got close to me, pulling me closer to him.
"Don't tell me to calm down, Darius. My sister is dead." I cried. "If I had come earlier she might have made it."
"It's not you Iris, you did nothing wrong. You tried your best, trust me." Darius tried to reassure me but I shook my head.
"Obviously my best is not enough, I let her down. She will never forgive me."
"Don't blame yourself, Iris." He muttered.
"Are you sure you can't do anything doctor? I can give her my heart. Please just do something." I pleaded.
"We tried everything already, I'm so sorry for your loss."
"Yo...u are heart...less why don't you want to try to save her. Please just do something." I sobbed.
I continued crying, I don't know how long I cried for but by now my eyes are already hurting. There were barely any tears left in my eyes. Darius just stood there, consoling me as I sobbed on his shirt but he didn't seem to mind.
I moved away from him, wiping the already dried tears from my face.
"Are you okay?" Darius asked worriedly.
"Ye...ah where is the doctor?" I asked as I glanced around the room and noticed the doctor wasn't there with us anymore.
"He left a while ago. Are you sure you are fine? Should I take you home?" He questioned.
"No, I want to see the child." I requested.
"Let's go back to the doctor then, I'm sure he will be able to direct us to where the child is."
I nodded my head and followed him back to the doctor's room.
"Doctor, can we see the child?" Darius asked as we entered.
"Definitely, I will take you to her right now." The doctor agreed.
"Her?" I blurted out.
"Yes, the baby is a girl." He confirmed. I don't even know if I should be happy right now, I just lost my sister and I'm about to see her premature child.
I followed the doctor to the room where they kept the child. Another fresh set of tears dropped from my stinging eyes as I saw the baby.
She was still very small, she looked like she could break if you didn't handle her very well.
"She is so beautiful." I said mid cries. "She looks just like Vickie but a younger version."
"Yeah, she does." Darius agreed from beside me.
I'm so sorry child, you will never get to meet your mother but don't you worry. I will take care of you as mine, what am I even saying you are mine. I will never make you feel that I'm not your mother.
Grow up to be beautiful just like your mom.
"When are you taking her out of the incubator?" Darius asked as if he knew the question brewing in my mind.
"When she gets to nine months. Until then, she has to be under surveillance." The doctor answered.
"Is there... anything you need for her?" I asked.
"No, just a few baby necessities."
"Okay, I will send my Beta to get everything." Darius declared.
"Thank you.” I whispered as he wiped my tears away.
"Has my father called?"
"No and we already tried calling him but his number seems to be unreachable."
"That bastard, he should just wait and see what I will do to him." I said with gritted teeth, clenching my hand that Darius wasn't holding.
If only he had put a close eye on her, she wouldn't have fallen and ended up in the hospital. He doesn't even seem to care, I'm sure he is going to be happy with this news.
Of course he will be happy, he killed her. I still don't believe Vickie fell all by herself. I would say I'm the clumsy one out of the two of us, not her.
