Chapter 48 Chapter 48
Chapter 48
Darius POV
"She is dead?" I repeated.
"Yes, Alpha. It just got confirmed this morning." He affirmed.
"How did she die? Was it an attack or what?"
"She fell and was rushed to the hospital. Iris was supposed to go and check up on her at the hospital but she had an accident." He explained.
Shit! That explains where she was going and why Vickie hasn't been picking her calls. She is dead, where could she have fallen from that would have cost her life?
Now, I can't even tell Leonard we went for our honeymoon anymore since he already knows she was on her way to the hospital.
I can't even begin to imagine how Iris will feel if she finds out about this.
"Ohh, there is more." Nathan said, suddenly snapping me out of my thoughts.
"I'm listening."
"It also says here that her baby was kept in an incubator..."
"An incubator? Isn't the child too young to be in an incubator?" I asked, interrupting him.
"Apparently the pregnancy is almost five months and she demanded her baby be saved at all cost. Which ended up taking her life." He explained.
I didn't say anything after that, I didn't know what to say. I was speechless, how can she risk her life for a child? What is going to become of the child now that she has died?
Iris is In coma, so who is going to take care of the child before she wakes up? Even when she wakes up, I'm not sure I want to pour any of these on her immediately.
I wouldn't want to risk her slipping back into a coma.
"Alpha, we have gotten to the hospital." The driver announced. I got down from the car and headed straight for Iris ward.
"Iris?" I called out as I entered the room and saw her thrashing on the bed.
"Get the nurses in here Nathan!" I shouted. I ran to her side, trying to hold her down. "Calm down, Iris. The doctors are coming." I whispered trying to calm her down but she was still thrashing around.
The nurses and doctors soon rushed in and stepped aside to let them do their job.
Was she uncomfortable? Or was the scent of the flowers too much for her?
"Doctor, what is wrong with my wife?" I demanded.
"Your wife is fine, it's just that she is trying to move her body but her brain doesn't seem to be cooperating with it." He answered.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I asked, looking at him in confusion.
"Her body moving is triggered by something and she is trying to wake up and escape whatever it is but she needs her brain to do that. She needs it to wake up." He explained.
"Can't you just wake her up. I mean, if we tap her won't she wake up?"
"I'm sorry but it doesn't work that way, her brain may shut down if we try to wake her up. It's best if she wakes up by herself." My gaze slipped past him to Iris who the nurses were injecting something to calm her down.
"You don't need to worry about what she is being injected with, it's just sedative." The doctor said as if reading my mind.
"She should calm down in a few minutes and then we will check back in on her." He continued and I nodded my head, not really focusing on what he was saying.
After a while, they left the room and she has finally calmed down. I went to sit beside her on the bed.
"Don't force yourself Iris, just calm down." I whispered, I don't know If she can hear me or not.
I don't even know how I'm going to break the news to you when you wake up Iris. How can I tell you, your twin sister whom you were going to the hospital to see is dead.
"Nathan, very soon we will be going to the hospital or wherever Leonard is. I need to see him." I said and he nodded his head.
I need to tell him about Iris, I would have told him yesterday if I knew things would turn out his way. Who knows, he might be blaming Iris already for not showing up at the hospital or something.
But I honestly want to know where Vickie fell from. Was it that high that it was life threatening? And I doubt Nathan has gotten any information on that.
Or was it planned like they did with Iris?
I took her hand in mine, giving it a little squeeze. "Everything is going to be fine, I'm going to be by your side all through."
"I will be your emotional support when you wake up." I said in my head. I don't know why I'm saying these cringe words but I just felt like saying it.
And I'm not even lying about it, I'm pretty sure she would be needing emotional support once she wakes up. I look closely at her face, she looks disturbed as if something is bothering her.
Do people in coma hear? I asked myself before turning to Nathan to ask him.
"Do people in coma hear?"
"Most of the time, yes. They can think too but they can't move or open their eyes." He answered.
I see, then I better be careful what I say when I'm close to Iris. I don't want her overhearing and thinking about it with her in this condition.
I groaned as I tilted my head back a little. I wonder what lie Leonard would cook up about their identities now. Or maybe he will just...
I was pulled out of my thoughts as Iris's hand twitched in mine.
Before I could even begin to ask myself if she was truly awake or it was just reflexes she jolted up.
"Vickie.”
