Chapter 46 Chapter 26
Chapter 46
Iris POV
"Run, Iris. They are coming." Vickie shouted and I picked up my pace, and started running faster. We have been running for a long time and I have no idea who we are running from.
All I know is Vickie yelling at me to run faster.
"I'm tired Vickie, I can't... run anymore." I blurted out, breathless.
"No, Iris. We can't stop now, we are almost losing them. If we wait a little they will catch up to us." She warned.
"Who exactly are we running from Vickie? It's getting dark, we have been running since afternoon."
"Look, we are only running into the forest deeper and deeper, what if we never make it out?" I finished.
"We will make it out Iris, but we won't if we stay here." She responded.
"Then tell me who we are running from. I can't hear any voice, scratch that, I can't even see anyone behind us." I complained.
"You can't see them but I can, now run or they will catch you." She hissed, pulling my hand to continue running with her.
"Goodness No!" I pulled my hand away from hers refusing to run anymore.
"It's either you tell me what we are running from or I will sit right here and wait for it to come." I continued.
"You really can't understand Iris, we don't have time. We need to continue running."
I sat down beside a tree branch and refused to say another word to her. She tried to pull me up but I did budge, she talked but I didn't reply. I will only reply to her when she tells me who is chasing us.
"Plea...se Iris, just come with me. I promise you, I will tell you everything. Just please come with me." She pleaded, her voice cracking and I finally stood up.
"You promise?" I asked and she nodded her head profusely.
"Okay..." Before I could even finish, she pulled my hand and we continued running.
After running for what feels like an eternity, we finally came to a stop. Both of us taking huge puffs of air and trying to calm our racing hearts.
After a while, I spoke up.
"Are they off our backs now?"
"No but it will take a while before they catch up to us." She replied.
"So, who exactly is chasing us and what is our business with them?" I asked, looking at her.
"They are chasing us becau..." Before she could finish, a trigger went off and before we could react, the bullet was already digging into her chest.
"Vickie!!!" I shouted, moving closer and supporting her body from falling down.
I placed my hand on her chest, to stop the blood from oozing out more. I sat down on the floor with her on my lap.
"Ir..is..."
"No. No. No. Vickie, save your strength. I will find a way to get us out of here and I will get you to the hospital." I cried out.
"Somebody help me!" I shouted, but the only response I got back was the echo of my voice.
No, someone has to be around. Who released the trigger, I looked around the forest but I couldn't see anybody.
I didn't even see anything while we were running, only she has been the one seeing them. Are they the ones that shot her?
"I'm sorry Vickie, I shouldn't have forced you. I should have continued running." I whispered crying endlessly. How do I get her out of here, I don't even know where we are or how to get out.
I wiped my tears and laid her down on the ground softly, I touched her wrist for a pulse and it was still there. I looked around for anything I could use to take out the bullet from her chest, maybe if I'm able to pull it out she will stop bleeding.
But I didn't find anything, there was nothing in sight that I could use. I don't even know how to do it, I just wanted to try it. I raised her shirt up to where the bullet was, crying more as I saw it.
"Ir...is I need... to tell you some...thing." she stuttered out.
"Please Vickie, just save your strength." I pleaded but she shook her slowly.
"I nee...d to tell you this before... I go." She stuttered again.
"Go where? You can't walk in this condition Vickie and I won't allow you either." I muttered.
"Just... hear me out please." She whispered with tears in her eyes. I nodded and moved closer to listen to what she had to say.
"I'm sorry Iris, I can't protect you anymore." She choked out.
"What are you talking about Vickie, if you know your way out of here tell me. I will get you out of here and you will get treated."
But she didn't acknowledge what I said, she continued talking. "Do whatever you must do, don't make them catch you and stay safe."
"Vickie, I don't understand any of these. Let's talk later, first off let's get you out of here." I moved away to carry her on my back but her body had gotten heavier.
Her eyelids shut close.
No. No. No.
It can't be, Vickie can't be dead. I must be imagining things. I checked her pulse and there was nothing, I put my heart on her chest to listen to her heartbeat but nothing.
"Vickie, No!" I cried out. "Don't do this to me please. I don't have anyone but you. You can't leave me now, I will get you out of here I promise."
"Just please, wake up." I begged, my tears streaming down my face to her clothes.
"You have three minutes to run." I heard a voice say and before I knew it, my vision blurred and when it was restored, I was no longer in the forest.
Neither is Vickie with me anymore, I looked around where I was but there was nothing in sight. The room was white and plain, not even a single window or door.
"What is this place?" I asked no one in particular.
"Your subconsciousness." A voice replied.
