Chapter 45 Chapter 45
Chapter 45
Darius POV
"She what?" I interrupted the doctor.
"She is in an indefinite coma." He finished, scratching the back of his neck.
"Indefinite coma?" I repeated and he nodded his head.
"It is when the patient falls into a coma and we don't know how long it will last." He explained but I already knew what it meant.
"Is there anything you can do?" I asked and he shook his head.
"I'm sorry but there is nothing we can do. We have already tried our best, she was very lucky the shattered glass pieces missed her organs and it's just by a little."
"I think her being in a coma gives her more chance at life." He continued.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked, my frown deepened at his words. Why on earth would he say something like that, he is so lucky I'm too saddened by what just happened, else I would have snapped his neck.
"It's either this or she dies. And she is a fighter, else who knows what could have happened." He answered.
I don't want to trust his words but I have too, she is in an indefinite coma and there is nothing they can do to wake her up.
"Can I see her now?"
"I'm sorry but you can't see her right now..."
"Why?" I interrupted him before he could finish.
"They are still sewing her cuts inside and you will be allowed to see her once they move her to the main ward." He replied and I nodded my head.
"In the meantime, please come with me to sign some papers." The doctor said, urging me to follow him and I did with Nathan trailing behind me.
I signed every paper, paid for a VIP ward for Iris instead of a regular one. I want her to have nothing but the best service and be comfortable.
I waited patiently in the ward for the nurses to wheel her in after they are done with whatever they are doing and soon enough, they wheeled her in. Already changed into their clean hospital wear.
I hate hospitals a lot but I don't have any choice. This is going to be Iris home until she wakes up and I better make it homely for her.
My heart clenched as I saw the numerous band aids on her body, some hidden from the eye by the gown and then on her head was a huge bandage. Even her eyes were covered with something i don't know and then finally, she was on an oxygen mask.
The nurse left after they had settled her on the bed and she looked comfortable. I stood up from the bed and slowly went to her side.
Looking down at her figure. "I hate to see you like this Iris, I hate that you can't argue with me."
And I hate myself even more for not stopping her when she said she was going home. I had a hunch to stop her but shrugged it off as nothing.
"Nathan." I muttered, turning away from her to look at Nathan.
"I want you to get the best specialist in the country, if there aren't any fly some in. I need them to check up on her properly, I don't trust that she is truly in an indefinite coma." I commanded.
"Yes Alpha, I will get it done." He replied.
"And also, I want you to go get some orange lilies. I want a lot of them and they must be changed every day." Maybe if I add her favorite flowers, she might wake up soon and I'm very sure she will like it.
The smell of the lilies should be better than this sterile hospital scent.
"I will order it right away." He said and I nodded my head. Turning my gaze back to Iris as I sat down beside her.
Should I tell her family about this! Of course, they deserve to know. But would Leonard really care? I know Vickie would care.
I removed my phone from my pocket to call Vickie and tell her about Iris. I will tell her not to tell Leonard about it, I don't want his fake sympathy close to her.
I will call him later myself and tell him I went on the honeymoon with Iris. Simple as that, just the way he has always wanted. I called Vickie numerous times but it kept directing me to voicemail.
Where could she have dropped her phone?
Maybe she is busy, I'm sure she will call back when she sees my call.
Nathan had already left the room a while ago, and I was just alone listening to the beeping sound of the machine.
I feel soft, I'm not usually like this. I'm always hot tempered, I didn't even banter with the Doctor when he was talking.
I must be really shaken by the accident, I don't know if that is what I would call it but I'm really sad seeing Iris like this. It's the first time in years I'm feeling this way.
I moved one of my hands slowly to hold hers. Squeezing it a little. I don't know how long I stayed watching her, the way her chest rises up and down faintly.
Staring at her beautiful face, even with the bandage on her forehead, she is still effortlessly beautiful. If this wasn't an accident, I probably would have put the person who caused this also in an indefinite coma but was it really an accident?
I know I said the truck driver is innocent but what if he or she isn't? What if it was intentional?
I need to find him or her, I need to investigate this properly. Because the truck was flipped over too, why were people only gathered at her side and not the truck drivers.
And this is the closest hospital to the road where the accident happened, why didn't I see anyone get rushed in. Something is fishy and I know exactly where to get answers.
Maybe it's time to visit Donovan Steele again after all.
