Chapter 44 Chapter 44
Darius POV
I groaned as I heard the buzzing sound of my phone. "Who is calling me?" I grabbed the phone, ready to lash out at whoever it was calling but noticed it was Iris calling.
Iris never calls me unless it's important. I picked the call immediately, bringing the phone to my ear.
"Hello?" I called out but I didn't hear a response from her side of the phone. Is this a prank call or what?
I was about to end the call when I heard people screaming from the other side of the call. All of them shouting and calling for the ambulance saying there has been an accident.
An accident?
"Iris are you there?" I shouted but got no response from her.
"Nathan?" I called out and he hurriedly entered my study. "We need to go now, Iris seemed to have been involved in an accident."
"Okay Boss, I will get the car ready right away." He said and ran out of the room. I stood up immediately from the chair and followed after him.
I didn't end the call, I started tracing her phone location and handed it to Nathan. The map clearly states it was about forty minutes away but I don't have that time.
"I want us to get there in ten to twenty minutes, Nathan." I ordered.
He nodded his head, he didn't argue with me. He knew not to argue with me on this. He broke every road law, sped past every car but I didn't care.
Iris was in danger and my heart clenched at just the mere thought of that. I anticipated the moment we would get there, silently praying she was fine.
"We are there." Nathan announced as we neared the location. I jumped out of the car before he could even stop it, already sprinting to the car that was flipped over on the side of the road with people gathered around it.
My heart shattered into many pieces as I saw Iris, bleeding and nobody even thought to help. They all stood there, looking and taking pictures of her.
"All of you get out of here now?" I barked. They jumped back in fear as they heard and saw me, all of them running away.
"Nathan helped me get her to the car." I barked.
"The ambulance is on its way, Alpha. I think the people already called them." He said.
"You think I don't know that?" I hissed. "She has been here for goodness knows how long and they haven't arrived and you still want me to wait for them?"
"I'm sorry Alpha." He apologized.
"Keep your sorry to yourself." I kissed my teeth. "Now, help me get her out of here to the car. We need to take her to the hospital." He nodded his head and we managed to get her out of the car to my car and started driving to the hospital.
My heart tightened in my chest as I looked down at her, I placed her on my laps at the backseat and seeing the shattered glasses I'm her body broke me.
"I promise you Iris, I will make sure you are okay." I muttered, holding her cold hand in mine. Just hang in there for me.
"How much long until we get to the hospital?" I asked Nathan.
"About Ten..."
I cut him off before he could finish his sentence. "We don't have time Nathan, we need to get there real fast. Her pulse is deteriorating."
"Yes, Alpha." He stepped harder on the accelerator and we soon got to the hospital. She was immediately rushed into the ICU as we got there.
I wanted to follow them inside but I wasn't allowed to, so I could only stand outside and wait for the doctors.
Was this truly an accident or was it planned?
What Donovan said that day came back to my mind, what is it planned?
"Nathan?" I called his attention. "I want the live feed footage from that road."
"Alright, I will go get it right away." He responded, bowed his head and walked away.
This better not be planned because I won't spare whoever did this. Including Donovan, I don't care if he is innocent or not.
But what if it's not, I already killed Daniel so who else would want to hurt her. But Leonard sure does have lots of enemies, it will be hard to tell which one exactly.
After about an hour, the doctors are still inside. None of them has come out yet, and Nathan just returned.
"Here it is Alpha." He said, holding out his phone for me. I took it from his hand and played the video.
Seeing a truck driver who seemed to have lost balance collide with the car iris was in. My anger intensified as I watched the way her car tumbled over numerous times beside it finally stopped.
One thing was clear from the video, it wasn't planned. It was an accident. The truck had tumbled too, no assassin would be crazy enough to risk his or her life that way.
I handed the phone back to Nathan. The question now is where was Iris heading to. That doesn't seem like the road that leads to her father's house nor does it lead to mine so where exactly was she heading to.
Something doesn't add up, she told me she was going to her father's house, so why did she change direction?
A nurse came to the ICU and I rushed to meet her. "Is she okay?"
"We are trying our best, Sir." That was all she answered me with before she walked away.
What does she mean by trying their best? If they can't tend to her, they should let me know and I will get the best doctors to look after her.
The door of the ICU opened again and this time it was a doctor that came out.
"Are you related to the patient inside?" He asked, pulling off his gloves.
"I'm her husband." I answered almost immediately.
"Is she okay? Can I see her now?"
I watched as his facial expression changed. "She…”
