Chapter 21 Untitled Chapter 21
Iris POV
Nothing happened after the policeman interrupted us. Darius dropped me at home as promised, I hurried to my room immediately I got home.
Not wanting to see Vickie. I don't know how to face her after what almost happened. I went to my bathroom, taking a well needed shower to relieve stress.
After that, I put on my nightwear and jumped on my bed. As I was about to sleep, my mind went back to what almost happened. We would have kissed if the policeman hadn't interrupted us.
Maybe more than kissing. I kind of felt sad it didn't happen but at the same time I was happy. At least, there is not so much to add to my bucket of guilt.
My eyes started to flutter close, I held my duvet close to my body and drifted off to sleep.

The next day
The sun crept in through the curtain into the room shining directly on my face. I woke up groaning, I wanted to sleep some more but the sun was too much.
I contemplated standing up from the bed to cover the window properly so the sun won't be able to come in.
But if I stand up from the bed I won't be able to sleep anymore. Urghh, I groaned standing up from the bed and going to the bathroom angrily.
I quickly brushed my teeth and changed into a fresh set of clothing. My stomach rumbled, reminding me to feed it. I pulled my hair in a messy bun and headed downstairs for breakfast.
Getting to the dining room, Vickie was already there and she wasn't alone. Our father was there too, which shocked me because he has never eaten breakfast with us.
"Good morning Dad." I greeted him, taking a seat. Vickie sat opposite me while he sat at the very end of the table.
I gave Vickie the eye that said 'what the hell is he doing here?'
She shrugged giving me the 'i don't know' look. We ate our breakfast in utter silence, none of us saying a word. Afraid father would do something if we did.
After breakfast, I attempted to stand up from the chair when his voice stopped me.
"Sit down Iris." His emotionless voice said.
I sat back down, looking at Vickie. She gave me the 'ohh you are toasted look' and I almost burst out laughing at that but held it in.
I turned to my father, wanting to ask him why he asked me to sit back down but decided against it.
"You must be wondering why I stopped you." He said not even looking up from his phone.
"Yes Father," I answered like an obedient child.
"After Vickie's wedding, you are next..."
"What?" I shouted, interrupting him.
"Don't you dare use that tone with me, young lady." He growled.
"Sorry father." I apologized, lowering my gaze.
What does he mean that I'm next after Vickie. Is he marrying me out? But I can't get married to just anyone.
"As I was saying, you are getting married after Vickie. A friend of mine's son is looking forward to getting married and I brought up your name." He continued in his stupid annoying voice.
"But father..." I started to say but he cut me off. "I don't want you bullshiting me about not wanting to marry someone you barely know. His family is ready to invest more in my business and you are unmarried, so that's a win win for the both of us."
My eyes went to the steaming tea, I hadn't finished because it was too hot. I wanted nothing more than to pour the hot steamy tea on his bald head.
How could he want to marry me off to someone I know nothing about. Just because of his business, does he even care about us at all.
He is always doing things that benefit him and not us. "I will take your silence as you saying yes. After your sister's wedding, I will introduce you to him. And if you mess this up for me, I will mess you up." He growled standing up from his seat.
"Ohh and Vickie, I will be meeting with Darius today and have the wedding date finalized." He said again, not even stopping or turning to look back at us.
"What?" Vickie almost yelled when he was out of ear.
"I knew he was going to find a suitor for you soon but I didn't expect it to be this soon." She continued.
"Me too, I'm just as shocked as you are. How can I get married to someone I haven't seen or heard anything about." I whispered.
"Honestly, I can't even think straight right now. I think I need a drink." I added.
"See who lectures me about drinking." Vickie said, laughing at me.
"I'm serious Vickie, all this is a lot for me to process right now. I need something to clear my head." I replied.
"Fine then, let's go to my room." We stood up from the chair, leaving the dining room together. We headed to her room, and as soon as we got there I slumped down on her bed.
She went to her closet, bringing out Vodka and two shots glass cup. "Here we go." She said placing them on the bed.
"You want to drink too?" I asked her
"Of course, you didn't think I would allow only you to drink, right?" She said pouring the drink into the cup.
She handed one of the cups to me and I gulped the alcohol down in one go. I grunted as the alcohol burnt my throat but I didn't stop.
I kept on pouring the alcohol into the cup and gulping it down. It got to a point, I dropped the cup and grabbed the bottle instead. Drinking directly from it.
"Ho...w cou...ld...he do that to me." I said, my words slurry and my eyes already seeing things in two.
"I think you have had enough." Vickie said, trying to take the bottle away from me but I didn't let her.
"No, no Vickie." I said, holding my hand up. "Allow me to drink, I need to drink more."
"You have really had enough Iris, I mean look at you, you are already drunk as hell." She complained reaching for the bottle again but I pulled it out of her reach.
"That's not... what you... should...be doing Vickie." I complained. "You should be consoling me, I'm heartbroken." I continued.
"Fine, just drop the bottle. Let's watch a movie together or something." She suggested but I shook my head.
"No." I shouted.
"I want to drink." I said taking another swig from the bottle.
She forcefully grabbed the bottle from me, running down from the bed so I won't be able to snatch it back. I whined coming down from the bed, stumbling to stand upright.
"Give it...back Vickie." I slurred, stumbling towards her. She quickly closed the bottle and ran out of the room. I groaned, falling on the carpeted floor.
I pulled out my phone from my pocket, going through my contact list. The letters were merging together, I could barely see what I was doing but I knew I was texting someone.
I brought my phone closer to my face to see who I just texted, it was Darius. I wonder what I sent to him.
