Chapter 22 Chapter 22
Darius POV
"Getting married Lol." With a crying emoji. I read the message I just received from Iris. What does she mean by getting married? Is she referring to me or her sister better not be her.
'who is getting married.' I typed and sent it back to her but she didn't reply or read the message. A knock sounded on my door and I dropped my phone on the table.
"Come in." I said to the person.
"Leonard Smith is here to see you boss." Nathan informed me, stepping inside and I groaned. Shit, why didn't he inform me that he was coming. I would have left if I knew he was going to come.
"Bring him In." I said to Nathan, mentally preparing myself to talk to him.
My door opened and Leonard stepped in. I kept my face neutral, not showing emotion. "There is my son." He said smiling as he sat down opposite me.
"Good afternoon." I greeted him, biting back the b word I wanted to refer to him as.
"Afternoon son, how are you doing? Sorry I couldn't come to see you yesterday, I was busy trying to find who would dare try to harm my daughter." He said, lying with so much confidence I wonder where he got it from.
I get amazed by how he pretends to be a very good father and not just father, a good person entirely. He doesn't know I can read through his lies.
I knew he didn't give two shits about who tried to kill Iris nor Iris herself or her sister.
"It's fine. And I'm perfectly fine as you can see." I gave him a simple reply.
"Yes I can see that, you look more handsome too." He said and you could tell he didn't mean it with the amount of sarcasm dripping from his tone.
"Thank you." I replied, giving him a smile that didn't reach my eyes.
"I know I should have informed you before coming here but I was just too excited you know, since it's concerning my daughter's wedding."
"Yeah, I understand. Well, you are here so let's get down to business. I have a meeting to attend in about twenty minutes." I lied, looking at my Rolex watch strapped around my wrist.
"I already picked a new date but I wanted to be sure you are okay with it before carrying on with previous plans." His annoying voice replied.
"Alright, I don't have a problem with anything. Just tell me the date and I will make sure I'm there in my suit." I stated.
"I was thinking tomorrow but I didn't like the set of jewelry Vickie picked, so I ordered new sets and won't get here until next tomorrow which is Thursday so why don't we hold the wedding on Friday." He suggested.
How the fuck does this man talk so much. I freaking asked him a simple question and he is already explaining his life story to me.
"I don't see why not." I answered him.
"That's lovely then, I will inform your bride." He said smiling, the smile too big for his face.
"If you would excuse me now, I have a meeting to get to and I will have to drive there." I said wanting him to leave my office.
"Of course, I will take my leave now. I will see you on Friday or before then, son." He said waving at me and leaving my office.
I groaned as he left. I don't know what I would have done if he had stayed for a minute more. Maybe snap his neck or disfigure his face so much he wouldn't be able to smile at anyone ever again.
Anyone who sees him now would think they have met the nicest person on earth while he is the devil himself. I don't know why he keeps on pretending to be excited about the wedding.
He thinks I'm a fool and I wouldn't detect his plans from the onset. I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for Clyde who convinced me to go along with his nonsense.
Nathan entered my office minutes later. "Alpha, do you want me to get you anything?" He asked.
"Yeah, air freshener." I replied to him. I need to erase Leonard's stupid cologne. The smell alone is enough to ruin someone's mood.
"I will go get it now boss." He bowed his head leaving the room. He came back later with the air freshener and sprayed it in the room.
I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Finally, that ridiculous smell is no longer in the air. Now I can breathe properly.
"Nathan." I called out stopping him as he was about to leave the office again.
"Find out everything that happened in the White Rock pack today. I want your feedback in an hour." I ordered and he nodded his head.
"I will be back soon." He said and left the room.
I needed to know why Iris sent me that message. I have a feeling she wasn't talking about me and Vickie. Who could she be talking about? Could it be her?
She better not be getting married. I would never allow her to get married to someone else, not while I'm still alive.
If she is getting married it must be that old fool’s idea. I'm starting to regret why I didn't just end him a few minutes ago.
I grabbed my phone again, sending another text to Iris to see that she had deleted the message she sent to me. Why would she delete the message?
Was it a mistake?
I went to my call log dialing her number, the phone rang but she didn't pick it up. I tried again still the same thing. I decided to drop her a voicemail.
"Text me back when you see this Iris, you can't just keep me in suspense and go ghost mode just like that. I need to know what you are talking about. Who exactly is getting married." I said dropping my phone on the table angrily.
I know I already sent Nathan to find out what was happening in their pack and shouldn't have called her but I wanted to hear her voice and that was the only question I could ask her about and she would respond to me.
"Goodness, what is this girl doing to me?" I groaned under my breath, pulling off my tie. I need to focus, I still have many files to sort out.
I decided to push the thoughts of her to the back of my head to at least when I'm done. I worked some more, and nearly cleared my workload for the day when Nathan came back.
I checked my wrist watch and it has been two hours since he left.
"Iris is getting married." Nathan blurted out.
"What?" I yelled.
"What do you mean Iris is getting married?" I asked him.
I know I told him to go find out and thought to myself that she might be the one getting married but I didn't expect it to be true.
"Leonard wants her to get married after yours and Vickie's wedding. Something relating to his business." Nathan explained.
That selfish man.
"Who is she getting married to?" I demanded.
"He didn't tell her who she is getting married to, but I found out." He said.
"Who is that bastard that thinks he deserves her?" I growled.
"Alaric Greene.”
