Chapter 20 Chapter 20
Darius POV
I didn't say a word after that. I knew what she was going to say, and I wasn't ready to hear it, more like I don't know how to handle it.
"You are not saying anything Darius." She said again looking at me.
"Let's talk after eating. I'm starving." I replied to her, buying more time.
She sighed but didn't say anything after that. The waiter came soon, as he was taking our orders I noticed him looking at Iris somehow.
He was checking her out, and I shouldn't be bothered by it but at that moment I wanted nothing more than to pull out the eyes he was using to look at her.
I cleared my throat making my presence known to him, he glanced over to me putting on his professional personality but as soon he glanced back to her, he changed.
"Babe, do you want macarons for dessert?" I asked her, marking my territory. Not wanting him to continue ogling at her. Iris looked at me for a minute before finally understanding what I was doing.
"Yes honey, I would like some tres leches cake too." She responded going along with the flow.
"I will be back soon with your orders." The waiter said, no longer checking Iris out. Good, I won't have to pluck his eyes out anymore I guess.
"Why did you do that?" Iris asked me as soon as the waiter left.
"Do what?" I pretended not to know what she was talking about.
"You called me babe Darius, why would you do that?" She asked, almost yelling but quickly lowered her voice.
"I noticed you were uncomfortable under his gaze." I lied smoothly. I wasn't about to tell her I called her Babe because I was jealous.
"Thank you I guess." She mumbled, playing with her fingers. I took in her appearance, she was putting on something so simple yet, it made her stand out.
The breeze slowly blowing her wavy hair, few strands blew to her face sticking to her lip gloss. Almost instinctively I reached out removing the hair, my finger brushing against her lips lightly.
She swallowed hard as my finger brushed against her lips. I stared straight into her eyes, keeping my thumb beside her lips.
What was I doing?
I pulled my hand back and cleared my throat. She placed her hair behind her ears and as if being on cue the waiter came back with our food.
"Enjoy your meal sir and ma." He said bowing his head slightly and leaving us alone.
We started eating but I didn't eat much. I wasn't hungry and even if I was hungry it wouldn't be for food. Maybe for Iris's lips though.
My eyes went to her mouth, watching as she placed the fork inside her mouth and slowly brought it back out. At random times, she would also lick her bottom lip or bite it.
I was getting turned on by just looking at her. What is it with me always losing focus whenever she is close to me?
"Why are you not eating? You said you were starving earlier." She said, unaware of the way I have been looking at her since.
"I was thinking about something." I lied, picking up the fork and continuing eating. We continued eating in silence with me occasionally glancing at her.
When we got to dessert, I dragged it. Refusing to finish eating my cake on time. I wasn't ready for the talk yet, but it has to happen eventually.
I waved for the waiter to come closer. "We are done here." I informed him. He cleared the table, coming back with the bill.
I paid it and stood up from the chair. "Darius, we are supposed to talk after eating, remember?" Iris said, stopping me in my step.
"Let's go for a drive." I said stepping out. She followed after me. "But we agreed to talk at the restaurant," she said, holding my hand stopping me.
"Let's just go for a drive Iris or do you want me to carry you to the car?" I teased looking at her.
She folded her arms over her chest, "okay." She said, pouting her mouth, her lips inviting me. I almost leaned in, then I remembered where we were.
I hummed and we left the restaurant together. She went over to her driver to tell him I will be dropping her off. And soon joined me in the car.
"We are driving now Darius, let's talk." She said and I could feel her eyes boring holes into my skull.
I groaned pulling over by the road side. "Fine, let's talk."
"First of all, thank you for saving me. And I'm sorry you were unconscious and had to postpone your wedding because of me." She blurted out.
I looked at her, scrutinizing her. Is she being serious right now?
I was about to talk when she spoke again. "But I would appreciate it if we cut off contact, even when we are at the same place we don't have to talk. You are getting married soon and not to just anyone, my sister." She continued.
"If I'm to get you right, you don't want any form of communication between us right?" I was puzzled.
"Yes." She whispered, lowering her gaze.
"Then why are you here?" I asked.
"To talk to you." She answered.
"Are you sure? Or you want something more than to talk to me." I said.
"What are you insinuating?" She demanded, turning her focus back on me.
"You know exactly what Iris, I noticed the way you were staring at me back at the restaurant. Especially when I was drinking the wine. I saw you squirm in your seat, what was that about then?" I asked, waiting for her answer.
Back at the restaurant, I wasn't the only one doing the staring. Iris was secretly looking at me and thought I didn't notice her. But I did, I managed to notice every little detail about her.
She turned away from me again, attesting to everything I said being true. "I wasn't staring at you." She feigned innocence.
"Then look me in the eyes and say it." I dared her.
She turned to me before looking away yet again. "What do you want me to say exactly Darius." She finally said, turning her attention fully on me now.
"Say that you want me. Tell me your body craves for me just the way mine does." I whispered.
"You know that's not possible Darius, you are getting married to my sister. I can't do this to her." She rambled.
"But you are sitting right inside my car, wondering what you should do next." I said to her, erasing the part where she said I was getting married to her sister.
"Not willing." She muttered.
"Are you sure? I don't remember forcing you to come along with me." I said.
She breathed out, clearly not knowing what to say anymore.
"Come here Iris." I ordered, tapping my lap.
"Dari..."
"I didn't ask Iris, I ordered." I said cutting her off.
She swallowed hard before unbuckling her seat belt and coming over to me. She sat down on my leg, straddling me on each side.
I placed my hands on her waist, pulling her closer to me. Her breath hitched but she made no move to get away from me.
I leaned in closer to her, about to claim her lips when someone knocked on my window. I groaned in frustration, Iris scrambled back to the passenger seat
I opened the window door to see a policeman standing there. "This is a no packing space young man." The policeman said politely.
I nodded my head and apologized to him. And he went away. I killed him mentally in my head for ruining my chance.
