Chapter 19 Chapter 19
Iris POV
I wanted to delete the message as soon as I sent it but he already read it. The bubbles appeared, he was typing. While I was waiting for his reply my heart was beating loudly in my chest.
Why did I ask him if we could talk? What exactly am I going to talk to him about?
I should cancel, tell him the message was a mistake. That could work, I looked at my phone again to type the message but he already sent me an address and attached time along with it.
I searched the place online, it was a restaurant a couple of miles away from here. People wouldn't see us, and even if they did, they wouldn't know who we were exactly.
I started biting my nails, a habit of mine whenever I'm nervous. Should I still cancel? Or go ahead?
I decided to go ahead with it. We would iron things out between us and set boundaries. We can never kiss again, it shouldn't have happened in the first place.
Vickie barged into my room and I quickly dropped the phone on the bed, facing the screen down. Not wanting her to see I was texting her future husband even though she doesn't want him.
She aimed directly for my bed, jumping on it. I could tell she was really annoyed judging by how she was doing. She was fuming with anger, thrashing her legs on the bed.
"Is everything okay?" I asked her, worried.
"I wish." She whispered and stopped thrashing. "Things can never be okay, the wedding is still happening." She continued.
I knew that father wouldn't change his mind because Darius was in the hospital. He would make sure to pick another date.
"That shouldn't be news to you, that's just how he is. When is the wedding happening now?" I asked her.
"I don't know yet, said something along the lines of wanting to have a discussion with Darius and then, they can pick another date." She replied, groaning.
"He already has a date in mind. He just wants to pretend to be the doting father-in-law." I scoffed.
"I thought I was the only one who figured that out. Can't he just cancel the wedding? I don't want to be bound to someone I dislike forever." She muttered.
"You know he would never do that right? He would rather eat sand than let you have your way." I replied to her.
"Why can't we just have a normal father like everyone else? He doesn't even know what we like, he doesn't seem fazed by the carrot cake." She said,
Right, we are allergic to carrots. I wondered why Vickie had picked carrot cake back at the pastry shop. She said she wanted to have allergies so that she could be taken to the hospital.
Then she would feign being in a coma for three months to escape the wedding. I laughed at her ridiculous plan when she said it.
"Well, I shouldn't be even surprised. He did nothing when the driver told him you were almost killed, he seemed so neutral and had this aura that screamed 'i don't give a fuck whatever happens to you' like who the hell does that to their daughter." She continued.
"I don't honestly know why this is still shocking to you. I expected it." I said.
"Thank God Darius had stepped in." She muttered coming closer to me and pulling me into her embrace.
"Yeah," I whispered, patting her hair.
"I can't imagine what I would have done without you." She whispered back, sounding broken.
"Calm down Vickie, I'm here. I'm okay, nothing happened to me." I said to her, pulling back from the embrace.
There were already tears in her eyes. Vickie might be wild, reckless and a big rule breaker but she is a very emotional person.
That is one of the things she doesn't like about herself, that she was easy to read like an open book.
I wiped her tears away. "I still dislike Darius but I can't deny the fact that he did something good." She whispered.
"Yeah, he did." I replied.
I am going to thank him for saving my life today when I see him. I went to the hospital to see him yesterday but he was still unconscious. I thought maybe something had happened to him and blamed myself until Nathan called to inform Vickie that he had woken up.
"I need to go drown in my sorrow." Vickie said getting up from my bed.
Vickie saying she wants to drown in her sorrow literally means she wants to drink till she can't walk anymore. "Vickie," I called, stopping her.
"You do know, excessive alcohol is not good for the body right?" I lectured her.
"Yes I know. And it's not excessive I promise, just one glass of wine." She replied with a smile leaving my room.
I sighed, this girl will never change or listen for that matter. I checked the time on my phone, it was almost time for the meeting with Darius.
I got up from the bed, walking to my closet. I thought of what to wear but can't seem to decide on one. I searched through my clothes before finally settling for a black baggy trouser and shirt. Pairing it with my black and white converse.
I let my hair down, allowing it to fall to my back, moisturized my lips and looked at myself in the mirror. I look okay, I would have worn a dress but I wasn't going there for the food or whatever.
I was going there to have a much needed discussion with Darius. I sprayed some cologne and left my room, already planning what I was going to tell my father if he sees him.
I will just tell him, I need to get more accessories for the wedding. That should get him off my back. As soon as I got outside, the driver opened the door for me and I entered.
I gave him the address and he began driving. We drove for about an hour before finally seeing the restaurant sign. Noticing a car already there.
I breathed in and out to calm my racing heart. Calm down Iris, it's just having a talk with him nothing more. I got down from the car.
"Thank you." I said to the driver and he nodded his head. Darius got down from the car and my heart jumped out of my chest nervous.
I didn't think he would be outside, I thought he would be waiting for me by the table and that I still have some time to calm myself down.
"Shall we?" He asked in his deep, expensive voice.
I nodded my head timidly, afraid I would say something wrong if I opened my mouth. He opened the door for me and I entered, with him following behind me.
"Good evening Sir and Ma, welcome to Luna and Vine." The receptionist greeted us, or more especially Darius because she was smiling sweetly at just him.
"I have a reservation here under the Acrux name." Darius said not bothering to acknowledge her greetings.
She seemed to realize who he was and quickly straightened up, returning back to her professional self. "Yes, come with me. I will show you to your table." She said and we followed her.
She led us to the restaurant rooftop, the view from up here is so beautiful. And the cool evening air was very chilly but I like it.
Darius pulled out a chair for me and I sat down, before he sat down too.
"A waiter would be with him shortly, enjoy your evening." The receptionist said giving us a smile and walking away, more like running away.
"We are not here to eat Darius." I said after she left. "We are here to talk."
