Chapter 16 Chapter 16
Iris POV
Vickie barged into my room, not bothering to knock. She never did anyways, I looked at her expectantly waiting for her to tell me what she came for.
It must be something serious judging by the way she barged into the room. "I need you to come with me for the cake tasting." She suddenly said and I looked at her puzzled.
"Come with you for cake tasting?" I asked with confusion written over my face.
"Yes." She replied, confirming that I heard her right.
"Why would you want to go cake tasting? What happened to the event planner? Why the sudden change of plans?" I asked her.
"Well left to me, I wouldn't even be doing the wedding in the first place but father wants me to go cake tasting with Darius. I tried to convince him but you know him, he didn't budge and even insisted I go with him." She explained.
"But you can go for the cake tasting tomorrow right?" I asked her, wanting to pass it up for tomorrow and then I can just hide away while she looks for me tomorrow.
"Right, father hasn't informed you yet. He moved the wedding closer..."
"What?" I blurted out looking at her with confusion.
She slumped down on my bed, covering her face with one of her hands and sighing. "He moved the date closer, why is this man hell bent on ruining my life." She let out a loud groan.
"I'm sorry." I apologized not knowing what to say to her. I felt bad for her, but there's nothing I can do or say that can make her feel better.
" It's fine, It's not your fault, it's all his fault." She groaned again.
We stayed in silence, just the sound of our heart beating. I didn't know what to say, I couldn't go there with her.
Darius is going to be there, I don't know how to act around him. In fact, I don't want to be around him. Coupled with the fact that Vickie is going to be there too. The guilt would be too much for me to handle.
"So you are coming with me right?" She asked, sitting up on the bed and removing her hand from her face, looking at me with so much hope.
I wanted to say no, I really wanted to. But seeing the look in her eyes, I nodded my head. "Yes, I will come with you."
"Urgh, Thank goodness I won't be alone with him." She exclaimed happily, moving closer to me and hugging me.
"Yeah." I said in a low voice, not even the slightest bit excited. How could I be? I was going cake tasting with my sister and her soon to be husband who so happens to be my mate.
Moon Goddess why me, this shouldn't be happening, it's a taboo.
"We leave In about two hours, he will meet us there." She informed me and turned to leave my room.
"Vickie," I called, stopping her in her steps, she turned around to look at me, raising an eyebrow to ask why I stopped her.
I wanted to tell her I couldn't go with her, that I don't want to be anywhere close to Darius but I swallowed it. "Nevermind, just wanted to ask if Father is coming along." I lied.
"Hell No, I would rather get run over by a car than have him come with us. I still haven't gotten over the trauma of him following us yesterday." She expressed bitterly.
I chuckled, admiring her blunt confession. That's one thing about Vickie, she is not one to fake things if she doesn't like you then she doesn't like you.
"I will go get some sleep now and maybe a drink. I need to calm myself down, so I don't end up mistakenly killing Darius." She muttered leaving my room.
I laid down back on my bed, placing the book I was reading before she came to my room on my chest. I need to get my mind off this, what will happen will happen.
It's nothing too much, it's just cake tasting and then we can leave and I won't have to see him again until the wedding day. I still don't know how to feel about that, seeing my mate standing on the altar exchanging vows with my sister.
Maybe I should run away somewhere far away and never come back. But father would find me, there is nowhere I can run to that he won't find me.
I didn't know when I drifted off to sleep, until I felt someone tapping me. "Wake you Iris, we have to leave now." I heard Vickie's voice trying to wake me up.
My eyes fluttered open, I looked around wondering what time it was. "Get dressed Iris, we leave in five minutes." She informed leaving as she got a call from somebody.
I scrambled out of bed, going to my walk in closet and searching for a suitable outfit to wear. I ended up choosing a sundress, since it's summer, a sundress wasn't a bad choice.
I didn't do much with my hair, I let the black long curly hair fall down to my back. I applied lip gloss and sprayed a little cologne.
I looked at myself in the mirror, I looked nice. I paired it with my sandals and left the room to go find Vickie.
I saw her sitting on the couch as I got downstairs waiting for me. "Shall we?" She asked, taking in my appearance and nodding her head in satisfaction.
"Yes, let's go." I replied to her.
We left the house together, and the driver opened the car for us. I hopped in first and she followed after me. The drive to the pastry shop began, I looked out the window the whole time.
Watching us pass the roads, lights and people in a blur. I didn't know I was nervous until it started calming me down.
"We are here." The driver informed pulling into the driveway.
Vickie and I nodded our heads at the same time, getting down from the car. Heading into the shop, the bell above the door rang as we opened the door signifying our arrival.
The shop owner quickly came to us, greeting us. "Your father mentioned your fiance would be joining you for the cake tasting." The shop owner asked.
"He will be here soon." Vickie said not bothering to hide her annoyance.
"Should we wait for him or begin tasting?" The shop owner asked again.
What is it with her asking so many questions, I groaned in my head.
"Let's wait for him. Oh here he comes now." Vickie replied nonchalantly.
I turned around to see Darius walking into the shop. I gulped down hard as I saw him walking majestically, the way he carries himself needs to be studied.
His eyes searched everywhere, finally landing on me. And I could have sworn I heard him breathe out a sigh of relief.
I glanced away from him, refusing to meet his eyes or even look at his direction. The shop owner greeted him and started showing them the cake samples.
"Excuse me," I said to the shop owner. "Where is your restroom?" I asked her, feeling the need to wash my sweaty hands.
"Right down there." She responded pointing the direction out for me.
I thanked her and headed for the direction she pointed to. I went over to the sink washing my hands, afterwards I wiped my hands clean and prepared to leave the restroom.
Before I could open the door, the door suddenly opened and Darius stepped him. Before I could say a word, he already had me pinned against the door.
