Chapter 183

Chapter 183
David

Stormy immediately dropped her embrace of Drew and turned towards the voice. Her face lit up and suddenly froze with fear and reverence. She dropped to one knee and the rest of the Kindred followed suit. The bowed low and waited to see what message the Queen would bring.

The silence felt like it stretched of forever. “My Queen,” David finally managed to squeak out as he let his eyes flicker over her ethereal face, her long flowing white dress and the celestial crown sitting in her long silver hair.

“Stand my friends.” The Queen said softly. She waved her hand and plush white chairs appeared in the room. “Why don’t we sit and chat?” She said with a voice of authority indicating that it was more than a simple request.

David sat down as he had been asked and pulled Stormy into his lap. She ran her nose along the fabric of his shirt and pressed her nose to his mating mark. He noticed the simple gesture made the Queen smile. His head seemed to be spinning with a million questions but he didn’t quite know where to start.

Almost as if the Queen was peering right into his thoughts, she spoke. “I know you likely have many questions, but unfortunately for the sake of balance, I cannot answer most of them.” She waved her hands and a table full of refreshments appeared before them.

“Please,” she said as she gestured for them to serve themselves. “I know you are weary and need sustenance.”

David picked up a pitcher of water and began to pour a glass for Stormy and each of the Kindred. He offered one to the Queen but she declined. Finally he served himself.

The room was eerily silent as they picked at the food she had presented them. It felt as if no one knew exactly what to say, so they all chose to say silent. David was struggling to put his thoughts into words. His mind was a frustrated, angry, jumbled mess. He had so many questions, but he realized she would not answer them. So instead of speaking he continued to eat the grapes that Stormy was happily feeding him.

He thought about her nonsense excuse about upsetting the balance. David had to prevent himself from rolling his eyes. He felt almost as if the Queen was dismissive of all they had been through and what her little series of test had cost them. It made him want to scream!

“I know you think that I am cruel for you making you face your fears and for insuring that you can truly work together. I assure you it was necessary. It is, and always has been, my mission to ensure that you are ready for the future. A great task has been assigned to you, greater than any before. It is imperative that you are ready for the challenges ahead. Defeating the Frost Queen, and saving the world consists of much more than slaying the enemy.” The Queen explained.

“If you already know how to defeat her and you are all-powerful, why don’t you stop her?” Damian grumbled.

The Queen smiled faintly. “She is my daughter, my flesh and blood. She is a part of me, and I cannot bring myself to harm her.” The Queen answered.

“If I understand the dreams we have seen, then Mara is not your only daughter.” David stated.
The Queen smiled. “You are correct, I have two children.” She crooked her finger and motioned for Stormy to come to her.

Stormy gave David an unsteady glance. While they all knew that the Queen was her mother, Stormy had no memory of it. She bit her lip and approached cautiously.

The Queen looked sad. “I am so sorry Tempestra, you don’t remember me, but you are my dearest one. I am your mother Angelica, the original goddess. You are one of my only two children.” She reached out and brushed Stormy’s face softly. “I have missed you. You have been my greatest joy.”

“Are not all of the supernaturals your children?” Dean asked with a raised eyebrow.

Angelica shook her head. “You are Tempestra’s children. She created the fae, the wolves, the dragons, the elves, vampires, and finally the humans as her companions. The first supernaturals sprang from her imagination.”

I like the name Stormy better. Stormy signed with a frown.

Her mother smile. “As you wish, I can tell that your mates have greatly worn off on you.” She gestured around the room. “I am very grateful that you have looked after her.”

“We love her,” David said honestly.

“And I have seen that she loves you.” The Queen replied.

“Have you come to help us?” Dean asked boldly. David could feel him trying to stare down the Queen, so he gave Dean a sharp elbow to the ribs.
The Queen threw her head back and laughed. There was something so familiar about it. “I’ve been helping you all along.”

David considered her words. He thought about the dreams that always came at just the right moment. He thought about how Stormy and Angie had randomly stumbled into that mating party. He considered the way the prophecy had come together and about how Angie had been sent to help them.

It was like the dots in his head suddenly began to connect. It made sense in a way that shouldn’t. Her familiarity was just too much.

“Who are you really?” David demanded even though he was already sure of the answer. He wanted to kick himself because the answer had been right there in front of him the entire time.
The Queen smiled and waved her hand over her body. She immediately morphed into their trainer and Stormy’s friend, Angie. The rest of the Kindred all gasped but to David, it all just seemed to snap into place.

Stormy began to sob silently and ran into Angie’s embrace. The Queen stroked her hair. “I promised I would never leave you. I kept my word and I have helped as much as I can. I love you, my daughter.”
