Chapter 182

Chapter 182
David

David’s eyes slowly adjusted so that he could survey the room around him. It appeared as if he were back in the white room. Nothing had changed. It still felt like just four walls and the light without a source. Something about the room just felt so lonely.

He hoped this wasn’t another test, because he honestly didn’t know how much more he had in him. He was weary. Not just tired in his wings and body, but deep down in his soul. He had caught a glimpse of the rest of his Kindred as the desert had faded and noticed that they didn’t look like they were holding up any better.

David scanned the room and noticed that Damian was laying on the ground. He could hear him gasping from breath and his heart almost broke. He was terrified that Damian was about to die. The idea of the loss of his friend was just too great.

He noticed Dean and Drew were leaning over Damian. His body was bathed in a rainbow of healing light. David finally managed to make his feet move again. He rushed over to his friends.
As he got closer, David realized that Dean’s frame had been blocking his view of his little mate cradling Damian’s head in her lap. David said her name softly. She looked up at him with a very weak smile.

Stormy leaned down and kissed Damian’s hair just as David had seen the vampire do to her a million times. David silently prayed as if he were willing Damian to survive. Not just for Stormy’s sake, but also his own. He couldn’t stand the thought of being without him.

David stood frozen as Damian groaned loudly and struggled to sit up. Color returned to his face and his breathing returned to normal. Damian looked at his hands as if they were foreign, while David and Stormy began to check his arms. Damian’s body seemed to instantly be healed. The open lesions closed, and his lips no longer looked cracked. Even the faint smell of smoke dissipated. Stormy reached out and touched the Damian’s face tenderly.

“I’m okay,” Damian announced quietly. He managed a weak smile before his eyes drooped.

“That was close though. I say we don’t try that again.” He admitted sheepishly.

David was so relieved he found himself doubled over with his hands on his knees. Seconds ago, Damian looked like he was a hair’s breath away from death. “Thank goodness” David said as he finally managed to strengthen up and make his way to Stormy.

He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her up from the floor. He ran his hands up her back from his waist and pulled her against his chest. He leaned down and placed a small kiss against her mate mark.

She bit her lip and ran her nose along the fabric of his shirt. She used her finger to draw a heart on his chest and placed her palm over it. She glanced up at him with large wide eyes, like she was concerned that he was upset with her.

David shook his head softly and beamed at her so she would know that their previous argument had long since been forgotten. “I have been so worried about you.” He whispered. He placed a soft kiss to her forehead.

She nodded and began to sign. I didn’t know what happened to you all. The spell on the trees was making you argue and I was afraid I would never see you again. Her face looked frantic and he could hear her heart racing.

“I am so sorry, Sweetness. I never meant to upset you or to snap at my friends. I promise to do better.” David said reassuringly as he leaned in and kissed her lips. The kiss began softly but deepened quickly. He could smell her sudden arousal and felt his blood began to stir. He pressed his erection against her and she sighed happily.

Before he could take things any further, he felt her being pulled slowly from his arms. David growled but released his hold on her. He imagined he wasn’t the only one of the kindred desperate to hold her again.

Any jealously diminished as Damian immediately crushed her to his chest. David realized he couldn’t really even complain considering the fact that Damian had almost died. Instead, he watched as Damian kissed her hair and dropped his lips to hers. The vampire began to kiss her passionately. Stormy absently drew a heart with a infinity symbol inside of it on Damian’s chest. She was quickly melting into his body when they were also interrupted.

Dean broke Damian’s kiss just as the vampire had done to David. Dean pulled her into his arms and peppered her face with tiny kisses. It caused Stormy to giggle and cling to his body. He finally kissed her softly on the lips. “I love you,” he whispered.

David watched her squint her eyes and he heard her small voice in the back of his head. “I love you too. I missed all of you so much.”

Drew seemed to wait as long as he could before he pulled Stormy away from Dean and into a huge hug. He rested his forehead against hers and looked deeply into her eyes like they were having a conversation that no one else could hear. Stormy drew a double heart on his chest and leaned in for a kiss.

“Do you think it’s over?” Dean asked with a frown as he scanned the room like he was looking for the next danger. David understood, it felt like it had been one thing after another since the moment they had stepped through the mirrors.

From behind him, David heard an unfamiliar throat clearing. He whirled around and his jaw dropped. He reached out, looking for something to steady himself as he tried to figure out a way to address the new presence in the room.

“You have proven yourselves sufficiently.” She said.
