Chapter 35 Chapter Thirty-Four

Chapter 35 Chapter Thirty-Four
2016

Addison’s eyes opened slowly. She blinked a few times as they started to adjust to the sunlight. She glanced around and recognised the room. She tried to move her hands and feet, but they were bound together with cable ties. She rolled onto her front and saw that she was laying on a bed. Her mother’s bed. She remembered the house she grew up in, all those years ago. Her lips were taped with duct tape and she tried to wriggle around on the bed.

“You know where we are, don’t you?” Addison heard. She glanced up to see Ian Evan’s sitting in the armchair by the window. Or rather, Ian Reed. He got up from the chair and walked over to Addison. She tried to shuffle backwards but he perched next to her on the bed. “So many memories in this house. Your mother would have been so proud of you Madison.” He spoke.

She looked away but he grabbed her face and pulled her to look at him. “Did you ever wonder how Alan picked his victims?” He sneered. “It was me. I chose them for him.” Ian smirked. He finally let go of her face and got up from the bed. He walked over to where Addison sat, and he lifted her in his arms. He placed her in the seat where he sat before. He pulled the chair closer to him as he perched back on the bed. He watched her.

“You look like your mother. I remember when Alan first started dating her. Dad wasn’t impressed though, hated everything Alan did.” Ian told her. “They hated each other; did you know that? The hatred between them led to mother’s death.” He glanced out of the window deep in thought. He turned his attention back to Addison. His eyes lit up. “Do you want to know what happened to her?” He said waiting for Addison to respond. “Nod.” He shouted. She jumped and nodded her head.

“Great,” He clasped his together in excitement. “Alan caught dad cheating on mum. He was doing it for so long and Alan hated it. One day, Alan came home earlier than expected and caught them in bed together again. Alan called her from work to come home. She did.” Ian paused. He watched Addison for a reaction. She sat helplessly in the chair. “I’ve got a better idea.” Ian got up and grabbed Addison by the top of her arm. He yanked her from the chair, and she screeched in her throat. He kept his hand clamped around her arm and dragged her out of the bedroom. She tried to fight against him as he they headed for the front door.

“Madison, stop it.” Ian told her. She didn’t listen. She carried on trying to fight him. He leaned down and rapped his arms around her thighs and lifted her into a fireman carry. They exited the house and He threw Addison in the back seat of his car. She shuffled to lay on her back and glance out of the window. He turned on the engine and they started to move.

Addison knew he was taking her back to his childhood home. The house where Ian and Alan both grew up in. The house where their mother committed suicide. She sat up to see that they were in the middle of no-where. She didn’t recognise anywhere.

They finally arrived at the house. He pulled up into the curved drive and Addison glanced up to the huge white house. Ian opened the car door and Addison pulled her legs up to her chest. He grabbed her feet a yanked her out of the car and she fell to the floor. She tried to scream but no sound came out. She noticed there wasn’t any other houses nearby and that worried her.

“The house belongs to me now. Dad left for America and took me with him when I was younger. I came back though. I couldn’t leave Alan. Ian put the key into the door and opened it. He glanced around and the house was exactly how it was left. He dragged her over to the sofa and pushed her down.

“Alan was so pleased when I came back. He told me this deep dark secret; do you want to know what is was?” Ian laughed. Addison nodded and that made Ian happy. He watched her for a moment, and she wondered what he was doing. He leaned forward and touched the tape on her mouth. Her eyes lit up and he decided to remove the tape.

“Katie Herman.” Addison gasped.

“What?”

“Katie Herman was his deep dark secret.”

“How did you know that?”

“He told me the same secret. I’ve also read the case files on his case.” Addison explained.

“Have you ever wondered how he chose his victims?” Ian grinned.

“I didn’t before, but I do now.”

“This place was our childhood home. That was until dad ruined everything.” Ian glanced around the house, smiling at the good times he had with his mum. He glanced at Addison. “Alan called mum to come home when he caught dad bringing his affair home. She did. She came home. Alan had come to pick me up from school, so we were too late.” Ian sat on the couch next to her and she shuffled away. “The house was a mess when we got home. The bathroom door was closed. Alan told me to stay where I was, and he went into the bathroom. He found mum in the bathtub.” Ian got up from the sofa and grabbed Addison again by the arm. She yelped as he yanked her up and he dragged her up the stairs. He took her into the bathroom.

“The bathtub was full of water. Red water. I went in to have a look and there she was in the red water. Her wrists wouldn’t stop bleeding.” He turned Addison’s wrist and saw her scar. He smiled. “It’s a memory to us now.” He said.

“More like a nightmare.” She muttered.

Ian grabbed her by the hair and lifted her to her knees. He pushed her head forward, so she was hovering over the bathtub. “This is where she died. She was your grandmother. Don’t you care?” He pushed her hard until she screeched in pain. He released her and she sat back against the wall. She glanced around and saw a pair of silver nail scissors by the sink.

“She betrayed us. She got the easy way out. We had to suffer with what she left behind.” Ian turned his hands into fists.

“So, you took it out on innocent people.” Addison said.

“They were hardly innocent. Each woman I chose was having an affair. They were ruining the family they had. They deserve everything they got. They destroyed families and walked away.” Ian hissed.

“What about my mum? She never had an affair; she was still murdered.”

“She got in the way. I warned Alan to keep an eye on her, but she still caught him. And in the act. I wasn’t expecting that to happen. But she never turned Alan in.” He stared at Addison.

She swallowed hard as she knew it was her that turned him in. It was her that called the police that night and she still couldn’t save her mum.

“You called the police and you mum paid the price.” Ian grinned. “Do you want to know something else?”

Addison didn’t say anything. She looked away. He grabbed her by the chin and forced her to look at him. She looked him in the eye. “What,”

“When you stood in court and said all those things about Alan. We had a plan. A plan to eventually get revenge on you. We didn’t expect you to become a police officer but that made it so much easier for us.” Ian laughed. He turned his back for a moment, and she took this moment to slide herself up into a standing position against the wall.

“You faked your own death.”

“Bingo.” Ian turned back round and laughed hard.

“Do you even remember any of the victims you killed?” Addison shuffled over towards the sink and quickly grabbed the scissors without his knowledge. She started cutting the ties around her wrists.

“Of course, I remember. I don’t know is Alan did though, probably the only ones he remembers are the ones that meant something. Like your mother.”

Addison finally cut her hands free but kept them behind her back. She slid back down to start on the cable ties around her ankles when she had the chance.

“Alan gave you up, did you know that? He told me it was you.” Addison said. Ian glared at her and she held his stare. He turned around and slipped his hand through his dark thick hair. Addison moved fast to cut the cable ties from around her feet.

“I don’t care about him anymore. I looked up to him when I was younger, he was everything I ever wanted to be. Since he was arrested, he was just a pawn in my game.”

“He’s not the disappointing one. He was precise in his kill, unlike you, you were messy.” She hissed. Ian glared at her. He stepped forward and lunged at her. She jumped up and stabbed him with the scissors in the chest. He groaned as he watched her run out of the room. He pulled the scissors out and chased after her.

Addison ran down the stairs and tried to open the front door, but it was locked. She quickly rushed through the living room and into the kitchen to the backdoor. It was also locked. She glanced around the kitchen, hoping to find a key somewhere. She opened drawers until she found a small silver key. She ran for the door, but Ian was behind her. He grabbed her hair and pushed her forward and her face bashed into the glass window of the door. He dragged her away from the door and to the living room. She grabbed a pan as they passed the cooker, turned and whacked him over the head with it. He grunted and let go of her hair. She punched him with all her strength, and he fell backward to the ground. She dropped the pan to the ground next to him. He grabbed her foot as she tried for the back door again, but she fell forward onto her front. He crawled on top of her and pinned her arms to the ground.

“You are going to regret that.” Ian said before picking up the pan and hitting her hard on the head. He lifted it up for a second hit and this time she fell unconscious under his weight, feeling the warmth of her blood trickling down her face.
